Professor Gale Wind and Doctor Lyra Heartstrings have come Princess Celestia to obtain grants for their projects that not everypony approves of. Lyra, an equipologist, has made new discoveries that suggest that ponies were once quadrupeds. Gale Wind, a biologist turned sociologist and sex researcher, wants to start work on his new book, Sexual Behavior of the Equine Female.
