Just an average night in Ponyville... all the ponies are asleep, all the lights turned off, with not a peep to be heard. Except, there was an event about to go on. The comet "Laythe" was going to arrive. Star Gazer got what he needed in a little wagon, which consisted of a bottle of water and his telescope. He also packed in a blanket, just in case. "Alright, that seems to be everything I need... except for..." Said Star Gazer, he was trying to remember what he forgot to bring. "Aha! I need to bring my notebook and a pencil." He packed those into the wagon as well, opened the door, took one quick look into his house, then left, closing the door behind him. It was a cloudless night, which was good for astronomy, as you all know, clouds block the sky. He arrived at the park, which he dubbed the best place to view the comet. As he arrived he only saw one other pony and some sort of bipedal creature following him/her.
Star Gazer set up his telescope where there were no trees, as they may block his sight. He put the blanket down first, then levitated the telescope onto it, untwisting the cap off the lens. "Ah... this feels like the perfect spot, now to wait." After about fifteen minutes, Star Gazer heard some commotion over where the other pony was. He heard a mare and a little child. Out of the commotion, Star could only make out "Telescope" and "not here." Either they were going to do it... or they didn't have a telescope. "No... that would be... ugh... It has to be that they were missing their telescope.... Why would they even be using a tele.... never mind..." Thought Star Gazer. He continued looking around for the comet, in case it would appear soon. After a while, he started looking through his telescope, to see if he could see the comet while it wasn't melting. No luck. After about five more minutes, the comet appeared. Star quickly angled his telescope so that it'd be looking straight at the comet. He was surprised that his eyes weren't burning out of their sockets, probably because the comet just started the vaporizing phase.
As usual, Star took notes of what was happening to the comet, when all of the sudden, he hears somepony calling him. "Excuse me? Sir?" said the mystery pony. "Ye-yes?" Said Star, in a low whisper. He is a pretty shy pony, the only time you'll see him actually talking to other ponies in a "Normal" voice is when he is talking about something to do with space. "Is it okay if I view the comet through your telescope, Spike, my supposedly number one assistant, forgot to bring my telescope, and it is too far to get it and still be able to see the comet." Asked the mystery pony. "Su.. sure.." Said Star redundantly. After his reply, Star moved back, and just sat on the blanket and drank some water. "Sppiikee! Get over here! I need you to take some notes." Said the mystery pony. She suddenly turns towards Star. "Sorry, I forgot my manners. My name is Twilight Sparkle. What is yours?" "Star Gazer..." Star mumbled. "What was that?" She asked. "Star Gazer, my name is Star Gazer." He suddenly says with a louder volume. "Okay, sorry for stealing your telescope, as I said earlier, Spike forgot the telescope and I'm a bit of a scientist, so... I kinda need to record this." Said Twilight. Star just stays there, silent. After a while, Star replies with, "It's okay, you don't have to apologize. I'm also a scientist, and I already have the information I needed." Twilight replies to his reply with, "Are you sure? All you really got to see was the start of the vaporization phase." "It's alright, really. I only needed that because of all the other times I've viewed comets, it was either in mid-flight or as it burns into nothing from the heat of the sun." Said Star. "Alright... I'll tell you when I'm done with the telescope, which might be awhile... so you might want to get a book from my camping spot." Said Twilight. "Nah, I think I'll just stare at the stars. It is in my name, after all." Said Star Gazer. Twilight lets out a little giggle. "Okay then."
After an hour or two, the comet finally gets out of the range where it vaporizes. "Welp, that's the end of that, Star?" Said Twilight. "Yes?" Said Star. "Wow, I'm surprised you're not asleep, how do you do it?" Asked Twilight. "Meh, I just slept all day." Said Star. "Wow, um... since you are wide awake, are you doing anything tonight?" Asked Twilight. "Erm... no... I was just going to view the comet then re-read some books." Responded Star. "Okay.... do you mind helping me re-organizing my books in my library? It takes quite a while and when I get to organizing it, I end up competing it the next day, so I miss out on all the things I planned to do. Plus, I want to tell you about the things you missed about the comet." Asked Twilight. "Eh... I don't mind, but mostly because of the comet part." Said Star. "Okay then! You should go keep your stuff first, because it's going to take awhile." Said Twilight. "Okay, meet me back here." Said Star. "Okay." Said Twilight.
After a good fifteen minutes, Star comes back, ready to go to the library with Twilight. As they trot to the library, Twilight asks Star some questions...
