Chapter 1: Comfort in Captivity
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Wake up, wake up.” A soothing gentle voice caused me to slowly regain consciousness. My mind was still a blur of thoughts and unsure memories. My body was still strapped to the hospital bed, unable to move. I look over and see a large bandage on the upper section of my right arm, where the nurse injected me with the sedative. Even still, a deep haze clouded my senses. As I tried to regain control of myself, a realization hit me. I was not the only one in the room. A white mare, the same one from before, was standing at the foot of the bed. She was just staring at me, as I was to her. It seemed we were equally curious of each other. After a few moments of this, she was the first to speak. “Hello, how are you doing?” The majestic figure asks rather timidly. No sounds came from my bewildered form. “Can you understand me?” At this point, my catatonic state was broken, and my brain formulates a response.
“Yes, I can understand you.” The mare stepped back slightly shocked to hear my voice, but she did not seem too surprised.
"Well, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Princess Celestia, ruler of the land you find yourself in. May I ask your name?"
“My name is Robert; I am a captain of the United States Space Navy, and the ranking officer of the vessel Ithaca.”
“You say you are a captain, of some form of spacecraft?” Celestia asks confusedly.
“Yes, that is correct.”
“Well that explains the wreckage.” My eyes once again bolt open.
“What wreckage.” I say rather fiercely.
“That is where my student, Twilight Sparkle, and her friends found you. You were locked in some kind of container stuck in the ground, there where large masses of metal and scrap surrounding the area.” I begin to try and piece together the information I have so far. She says I was locked in a container when they found me, so I was still in cryo when I was transported here. That explains the lack of memory, but how did I even get here. I am obviously no longer in my own solar system anymore. Am I even in the same galaxy? I mean we have mapped out and examined almost all planetary systems in the Milky Way, and found no signs of sentient life let alone life like this. I mean these things go against all laws of evolution. How did this place come to be? I had now been silent for a minute. The princess attempts to regain my attention with a slight grunt. “Ah hem.” I turn to her once again.
“Where is my ship?” I say angrily.
“I am not sure you understand, there was no ship when we found you. There was only-.”
“I don't care, you will take me to my vessel immediately!”
“I am afraid I cannot yet allow you to leave.”
“Why!?” I yell.
“The doctors and I are not yet sure it would be safe. We don’t even know what you are. If you could calm down and give us some more information-”
“No, fuck that! I am not saying a god damned word until you take me to my ship." Celestia was about to re-address her previous statement before I continued. "OR what's left of it!"
“Princess, with all do respect, I think we should continue this another time. Anyway we need to do another check on his vitals.” Another voice emanates from the door. The second figure gestures for her to leave the room.
“*sigh* Very well." Celestia turns to me. "I am sorry to leave so abruptly, but I hope we can have another conversation soon, one in a more... comfortable setting. I apologize for leaving you with questions unanswered, but if you cooperate I will be sure to aid you best I can. Goodbye, Captain.” The mare lowers her head which is probably the equivalent of a wave for them. She exits the room as the other pony enters.
The stallion is dressed in a silk lab coat, indicating his stats as a doctor. The colt carts in a small tray of assorted examination tools before trotting over to the sink facing away from me. As his line of sight relinquishes his view of the bed, I turn to the small tray he had pulled so near. The items on the tray mostly consisted of knives and scalpels. If I can reach that tray I might be able to cut through these damned straps! My hand lightly moves side to side, slowly sliding further down through the restrains. Stretching out with my fingers I tap on the end of the tray, trying to grab hold. I do not know how much longer the colt will be at the sink. Finally, I lightly grasp the cart and bring is closer to my bedside. Grabbing one of the razors on the tray I proceed to cut at the belt. Careful not to slice my arm, I simply make a trench in the loop. Then using my natural strength I break the bond. Now with a free arm, I lean over to cut free my remaining wrist. Following this process with both legs my entire body is now free.
Glancing to the doctor, I see he has already completed his task and started his return to my bedside. Quick as a bullet, I sprint to his unknowing form. Swiftly reaching around his head, my palms cover his mouth and nose. He struggles trying to get free from my grasp. Kicking in lashing out the desperate pony manages to knock around several of the toiletries on the counter. The process goes on for several moments before he goes unconscious from lack of air. I reach for the data port on my Nano-suit pressing the audio command speaker. I quietly voice my command into the console.
“Activate all basic and biological systems. Charge all propulsion and weapon systems.” A luminescent blue light forms at my feet and moves up. The wave of bionic armor builds around my unprotected body. Nanites individually coordinating each movement and placement. A top my skull a grid hologram lights up and journeys around my head. Once complete the light grid encloses, shrouding my vision with a blue hue. A moment later the transparent barrier is now a sealed helmet. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere.
“All requested systems are now online.” the computer voices. I locate and open a window that is at the far side of the room. I swiftly advance towards the opening.
“Computer, prepare anti-grav platforms for long distance flight." A neon orange light forms on the underside of my boots. At this time I am hanging on the outside of the window.
“Sir anti-gravity repulsors are now fully charged for long distance travel.” I lean forward and drop out the window.
“Fire repulsors.” A loud sonic boom followed by a boost in speed engulfs me. As I move forward my vision drifts back to where I have been being held captive. I see a large city hanging off the edge of a mountain range. A large gilded castle stands out amongst the rest of the buildings. I turn my head back forward. “Alright, now to find my ship.”
