Chapter 2: A Friend in Need
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Computer, conduct a wide variety scan of all the surrounding area for vessel designation Ithaca.”
“Yes sir beginning scan now.” The computer’s response was swiftly followed by a flashing red light on the upper section of my heads up display.
“Warning, Warning, incoming energy based projectile!”
“What! How did they.” My sentence was quickly interrupted by a purple luminescent mass passing directly by me on my left side. “Jesus Christ what the hell is that!”
“Locating source now… source located.”
“Bring the image up on my visor.” A small window appeared on my HUD; in the picture stood large white unicorn with a blue and turquoise mane. “How the hell is he the source?”
“It would appear the energy pulses are emanating from his horn.”
“This just keeps getting better and better.” I say sarcastically.
“Sir, multiple energy surges approaching us from the rear.”
“Map out a route of evasion, I don’t want to see what will happen if one of these hits us.”
“Processing… uploading route now.”
“Alright.” I swiftly begin moving left and right evading all the passing projectiles.”
“Sir.”
“What now?”
“I am detecting some form of barrier surrounding the circumference of the city.”
“What do you mean I don’t see anything?”
“Maybe this will help. Switching visor mode to infrared.” A green line formed on the peak of the screen and lowered down until my entire visor was laced with the color. I then saw the barrier. An immense red spectrum fills the area of the visor.
“What the hell. Computer reverse all repulsors.”
“We are moving at too high a velocity to change course.”
“What is the estimated time to impact.”
“Two seconds.”
“Oh great.” As I pass through the barrier a surge of electrical energy passes through my suit.
“Error, error, all systems failing, all systems failing!” The voice of the AI slowly distorts as we exit the barrier. I begin to slow, looking down I notice the anti-grav panels dimming.
“Uh-oh that can’t be good.” I come to a complete halt before going into free fall. I feel a large pressure on my chest from the air building up under my body. I frantically try and reach over to the data port on my arm in an attempt to re-activate the on board AI. I almost reach the port until a sudden burst of air causes my arm to be blown back into a locked position. As I break through the cloud barrier I begin to see the surface growing nearer and nearer. I try and reach the data port once again but the effort continues to be in vein. I close my eyes awaiting the end. Suddenly I feel something bulldoze into my side. I open my eyes to discover I am hovering no more than 10 feet off the ground. I look to my left and see a light blue Pegasus holding me by my waist struggling to compensate for my added weight. She begins to lower me down gut her grip loosens and I fall to the ground. I gasp for air after the impact. I lay there for a few moments before trying to pick myself up. I begin to stumble but I was stopped before I could fall. I stand up taking a deep breath as erected. I look down to see the same Pegasus pony looking up at me with wide eyes.
“Uh… um…sorry for ah dropping you” the pony stutters. I respond.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, you saved me.” The mare takes a couple steps back surprised to hear me speak.
“What is your name?” I ask.
“My name is um…Rainbow Dash. Wow, so you can speak Equestrian.” I'm guessing that Equestrian is their name for the English language. I guess everything can't be a parallel.
"I'm sorry if a scared you but-"
“I am not afraid! Its just that you ...startled me a bit, yea. So you're the creature Twilight found in the Everfree. You're taller that she said you were." The Rainbow maned pegasus has a surprised look on her face as I stand to my full height. It was pretty comical to see a large I was in proportion to these ponies.
"I... believe so, and... wait, did you say Twilight?"
"Yea, why?"
"Nothing, just wondering."
"Okaaay, wait why are you out of the city anyway. Did the princess release you or something?"
"No... not exactly."
"Then what happened, why were you falling from Canterlot?"
"I'm sorry, but I really don't feel like talking about that right now. Also ! need to get moving-" I begin to walk forward, but I am halted by a sudden sharp pain in my lower back."ARGH!” I yell in pain.
“What is wrong?!” Rainbow Dash voices her concern.
“My back, argh!” I keel over in pain.
“Don’t worry I will take you to Twilight, she will know what to do!”
"Okay, just hurry!"
“Alright, hold on!” The mare grabs the underside of my upper arms and lifts me into the air. I hear her gasping for air knowing she is having trouble supporting the weight. As we continue to move forward I begin to see something in the distance. As we advance the image becomes clearer. We are approaching a small town. As we pass I notice a sign at the entrance 'WELCOME TO PONYVILLE'. Well at least I know where I am now. Rainbow Dash still struggling to support my weight drops down lower into the street, we are now visible to the ponies wandering around the town. As we pass by I hear a series of gasps and murmurs. We continue down the street until we reach a large hollow tree with windows and a door. Rainbow gently lays me down on the stoop as she knocks on the door and yells for Twilight.
“Twilight, Twilight get out here I need you now!” I hear what sounds like clopping hooves approach the front of the tree until I see the door fling open.
“Rainbow Dash what is so important, I am trying to practice a new spell with Spike and I need to concentrate!” Rainbow’s eyes shift to my position. Twilight notices this and begins to do the same. I hear her gasp and stumble backward crashing into a table standing near the door.
“Dear Celestia, is that the thing we found in that crater in the Everfree forest.”
“Hey this thing has a name!” I say with a snide attitude.
“Did he just talk, he just talked.” This only causes her to continue stumbling about the tree house.
“Twilight don’t panic he is perfectly safe. I just brought him here because he hurt his back when he was falling from outside the barrier at Canterlot. I was wondering if you could use your magic to help him.
“Why was he outside the barrier I thought the princess had taken him to the Canterlot Medical Center.”
“I don’t know, Twilight, I was just on weather duty outside the city and saw him falling after he passed through the protective barrier. I rushed over and caught him before he hit the ground.”
“Ok, ok so how did he hurt his back?”
“I am not sure we were talking and he just fell over and started yelling.” At this point I try to get up only to be halted by a surge of pain than ran up my spinal cord.
“ARGH, GOD”
“Don’t try to move you are hurt.”
“Ya think?”
“Alright bring him inside I will see what I can do.”
