The Library of Forbidden Secrets

Chapter 4 - The Library

It was Twilight who first noticed the high degree of smells, but these were the smells of a familiar variety, the smell of books. The Mares and Fillies had landed in a large pile of books. Twilight immidatly jumped out of the pile, a massive grin spread across her face as she began to read through each, their quest completly lost on her as she helped herself to a colorful variation of different books. It was some time before the others awoken to a large, neatly organized pile of books, they themselves awoke on a cold, tiled floor in the middle of what appeared to be a library, but there appeared to be no end to it, the shelves just went on without end. Pinkie just hopped along, checking out the many colored books as Applejack and Fluttershy tried as they might to dislodge Twilight from the mountain of books that had begun to accumulate around her.

Finally after much pulling, the two of them managed to get the book loving unicorn away from the books. The others had started to move down the endless book shelves, but they were not alone. For the moment that Twilight looked back at her well organized book piles, based on catagory, had been placed into the book shelves almost not 5 minius since she finished reading the last one. Her jaw hung agape as she looked back at the spot which once was filled with books, now stood empty. When she pointed this out to Dash, most of it was lost on the cyan pegasi. "What are you on about egg head?" Dash gave an inquisitive look to Twilight, raising an eye brow.

"I had the books organized, yet where are they now? They were organized alphabeticly, then I once again organized them by content and language. Yet look, they are gone." Twilight says as she extends a hoof at the empty ground before the two. What was going on was still lost on Dash as she turned and left to catch the others. As Twilight turned to join them a deep greenish light shown from where the books once were. Trotting over, it became enveloped in her magic as she studdied it. It was a Mossy Green Scale.

As large as her own hoof, she looked it over, it reflected what ever form of light this Library used. She wanted to know what kind of creature could produce such a magnificant scale. A Dragon, a Hydra, the scoripon Tail of a Manticor? These and many others flashed through her mind. Till she realised she was alone and raced back to the others. A great Skyblue iris of an eye watched her depart only to close, the darkness beyond the broken light retruning to unending Darkeness.

"Where'd y'all recon' we go now?" Appplejack asked in confusion. They had come to a cross road, the book shelves split off in 42 different directions, each on a different subject. As Twilight returned to the others a few, mainly Applejack gave her an inquisitive look, and asked her just where she had gone off to. Twilight quickly relayed to the others on what she had discovered. The others became nervous, looking around as if expecting to see some creature come lurching out of the darkness to snatch one of the mares or fillies.

Once they had confirmed that there was no such creature they began to decide which way they should go. It was entirly up to them, but seeing as how there was 42 different directions to take they began looking at each of them, maby some clues would reveal themselves to the party. Pinkie, being Pinkie managed to defy logic and in the span of a miniuts check all the books on a single row of Book Shelves entitled "Pranking", making sure to return them to their original place. Rarity and Twilight both took a collective book shelf and began reading throuth. The titles of the the Contence of Rarities consisted of information retaining to the biology of dragons, the species as well as the locations on the locations called "Azeroth".

Twilight had chosen a literary section for a land called "Tameriel" she came across one story called "The Lusty Argonian Maid" which with a massive blush she returned to its place and continued on. Applejack had found a section on Agriculture from a plan called "Earth", she was fasinated on how such bipedled creatures managed to grow so much without the use of weather control. Fluttershy had come across a section on Botinolody, she was entriged as her and Rainbow Dash had discovered an entire section on Daring Do esk literature which she soon left the floor of the library littered with books, much to Twilight's anger, but before she could chastice her friend a timid voice echoed from behind her that caused the entire party to turn around and look, including the C.M.C.s who for the last 6 hours had been looking through picture and popup books after their attempt to become "CUTIE MARK CRUSADER BOOK SEARCHERS YAA!" had been curve stomped into the ground by Twilight with a single dagger filled glare.

"W-w-w-WHAT a-a-a-are y-y-y-you do-do-doing!?" a timid voice railed from behind Twilight. She whirled around to find herself as well as the others looking at a little colt, not 10 years old. His coat was a dark green while his, mane and tail were a lighter green. His eyes were a nut brown, but you wouldn't have known that due to the heavily fogged over glasses that obscured his vision. He cowered back under their gazes before darting into what looked like a fort made of books. This scene reminded Twilight of her earlier days with Princess Celestia when she was her student and Spike had just been hatched. She loved to make book forts back then, although she still does it from time to time as guilty pleasure of hers.

"Give him some room girls, let him speak. I am sorry, but who might you and why are you in this Library?" Twilight ask, sitting down and motioning to the others to follow suit. It took some time for them to convince him to come out of his fort. Once he had it took Rarity and Twilight's magic to keep the C.M.C. from jumping on him once they noticed that he had no Cutie Mark and asking him to join their club. It was then that Pinkie Pie asked.

"Hi I'm Pinkie Pie, whats your name? Do you live here? Whats it like getting lost in here? Does it take long to find your way out? What do you eat? Do you like swee...." Pinkie was silenced by a muffin to the mouth via Rainbow Dash, where said muffin came from, we won't know, except a very distraught Ditzy Do.  The little colt ducked back into his fort and looked over the books at the party, he finally spoke again though.

"I-I-I'm Wo-Wo-...everyone just calls me Book Worm for sh-short." He says as he looked over his books at the party gathered before him. "W-w-what are you doing here?" He asked as they looked between each other.

"We have come seeking a cure for a disease that is plagueing our land. We were told by our leaders, Princess Luna and Princess Celestia that a powerful being called Dagon resides here, he might be able to save our land." She asked as the others nodded to conform that she was asking was true. Book Worm looked down trodden at the mention of Dagon.

"Why the long face Book Worm? Mind sharing...if you..uh...don't mind me asking?" Fluttershy asked in her usual tone and voice.

"Its...well you had better come with me" Book Worm jumped out of his Book fort and motioned for them to follow them along. They hesitated for a second then followed after the little colt. Dash walked ahead of the others as they followed behind and flew low enough to talk with Book Worm.

"SO kid, mind if I call you Book for short?" Dash waited for him to answer back but all he did was nod his head. She then asked her question.  "What are you doing here, how did you find your way into this place?" She asked with a slight worried expession, thinking of the colts parents and friends who might miss him.

"A-a-all that will be explained wh-when I show you what I must" He said as Dash returned to the others and revealed to them what it was that she had learned. It was then that the mare 6 realised that the C.M.C. had found their way next to Book. The dogged him with questions until Apple Bloom pointed out that he was a "blank flank" which he became sad. Twilight and Rarity had to once again pull the Fillies away with their magic. The colt just looked back with a raised eye brow and a giggle before continuing on his way towards what looked to be the center of the Library.

As they all turned the bend, Fluttershy fainted, Rarity gagged, Rainbow Dash tried her best not to look impressed, Applejack was still trying to make sence of it all while Twilight was obviously distracted by something completely different. Pinkie Pie was busy exampining it while the Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo were busy cowering behind their resective sisters/role models. Before them, slumped upon a massive table that was as large as Centerlot, was the skeletal remains of what appeared to be a Serpent. Its head slumped over what appeared to be a massive Book, which Twilight was eyeing with lust. She had never seen a book that large before and she wanted to read it all~ night~ long~. It was then that Book Worm cleared his throat to get everyone's attention.

"Let me i-i-introduce to y-y-you all. Dagon Von Basilisk, once gra-grand libr-librarion of this li-library." Twilight was impressed to say the least, to think such a creature could read books, even without hooves, then it hit her like a shock.

"THIS IS WHAT THE PRINCESS WAS HAVING US LOOK FOR?!" Twilight suddenly becoming very angry, which only frightened the colt. "We can't even save Equestria when its dead!" It was then that the colt finally worked up enough nerve. The others were scared witless at her sudden out burst and Fluttershy had passed out once again after awakening from her fainting spell due to spotting the skeleton. Rainbow spotted something lying on the ground and upon inspecting it, realised it was the bone fragments of a wing. She was dumb struck that something so large could have wings. She was still sure of herself about being the fastest thing in Equestria though.

"Wel-well, tak-take a loo-look around the Botiny seco-section till you fi-find wha-what you are looking for." The girls, well all except for Fluttershy had gone about looking for what they needed. Book Worm had helped Fluttershy to his bed which he sleped in during his stay when Rainbow Dash once again tapped him on the shoulder.

"So, kid? How did you get here?" Rainbow asked, anxiety creeping into her voice as she feared the worst, abduction. What she gets as a response is the opposite of that though. "I was chosen" He said bluntly, causing the Brash mare's wings to slap to her sides as she stares at him before hitting the ground.

"You were what?!" Completely forgetting how easily he was to being scared. Book worm fell to the floor. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you, but you were chosen? By whom?" by this point Twilight came over to join them, after Pinkie, in all her Pinkieness, found sai....

Pinkie quit poking me! Yes I will give you more lines, now stop it and get back in mah story! Pinkie suddenly landing ontop of Dash as if from out of no where. She went to hopping around the library as Dash sat there stunned once again. There was no nothing that could suprise her, well almost nothing. It was then that Book Worm spoke again, the stutter none existant.

"It was during the waning days of the 3rd era of the Library, Dagon was growing older, he instructed the Council of 23 Ackolityus, who watch over the Library to find a suitable heir to look after it. Once they had conviened and dicussed it, they found me, a simple colt in an orphanage. When I was deemed worth, I was brought under his guidance and taught, I know where every book, every scroll is, and everything in between. Was I scared, at first, but whats there to be scared of when you have a guardian like Basilisk to be frank. Now, any other questions?" he looked around and the aposolute stuned faces of the 2 mares, Twilight looked about ready to pull the colt into a hug, which she did immidatly.

"There, there, we are here for you now, you are coming back to meet the princesses alright?" Book looked apprehensive but decided it was alright.

"O...ok" he said reluctently before hugging back. They all conviended again and began to talk about their discoveries, Twilight asking Book Worm about the correct book she would need to return them to their original home. Book thought for a moment before pointing to a book shelf that read. "Poniconicus" Twilight quickly scanned the books, looking for a good hour before finding what she needed, a large Orange and Black book, with the words, "A Spells Frosting" written on the front of it, there was no auther and it perplexed the unicron to no end but she just chalked it up to bad placment and began to sift through its...recipies...

Contained within were a collection of spells in the forms of recipies, when she questioned Book Work he simply stated that its creator had a craving for magic and sweets, and decided to combine the two together. Twilight was skeptical but when Book Worm's horn began to glow, he summoned forth all they would need, Twilight got to work on summoning all the magical ingrediants she would need while Pinkie began to whip them into a bowl.

Soon they had what they needed, what the book refered to as "Chaotic Cupcakes" It was intended to transport who ever ate them to a set destitation. To not let Book Worm out of his agreement Fluttershy, used her Stare on him, forcing him to eat his cup cake first. He soon vanished, only to end up in the middle of the Throne room. Soon the others followed suit, Twilight the last to go as she looked around, so many books~ before she ate into her cup cake and vanished, she made a promise to return, and read each and every one of them...and do a few more things while she was there, for some reason books get Twilight hot and bothered here, who knew.

Back in Equestria, what remained of the Royal Guard surrounded a small colt, before another 9 flashes of assorted colors. Soon the Elements as well as 3 small fillies appeared next to the colt. They bowed a few mins later after the disorentation wore off and they realised they were in the pressence of Celestia and Luna.

"My little ponies! You return...I do not see our friend with you" she looked around the room, confusion creeping into her face and voice. It was then that Twilight spoke.

"Princess Celestia...it is with a saddened heart that I inform you of the passing of Dagon" she says, almost immidatly tears begin to form in the corners of Celestia's eyes and she begins to cry, Luna holding here, Luna looked at Book Worm for the first time, a real good look at him.

"We have never seen this one in our realm! Who is he!" Luna asks pointing towards Book Worm, whom had a face of fear adorned on his tiny features. Twilight quickly took control of the situation and explained what she had learned. They had discovered a cure, and then they explained how they had met Book Worm, a look of horror crossing Luna's features as she learned he had been snatched from his life and became a librarian. Before she could speak, a loud noise revereberated from outside as a pair of guards were cast into the throne room, followed by a familiar voice, which caused everyone's eyes to widen in shock and dread.

"TIA I'M HOME~" a very afiminon voice called as everyone's favorite god came sliding into the Throne room on a carpet made of bubbles.
