Chapter Three: The Nice Old Mare

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A few days past, and Nox-Scriptor and Midnight were getting tired from walking and sleeping on the cold hard ground. When they felt like they were about to collapse, but then they saw a small cabin on the side of the dirt road. Nox-Scriptor and Midnight were excited when they thought about sleeping in a soft bed. Nox-Scriptor and Midnight went up to the cabin and knocked on the door. A few seconds later the door opened.

An old mare was standing with a smile upon her face. "Oh hello, youngsters. What is it you want?" she said. "Hello, we are travelers and we have been looking for a place to stay for a while," Nox-Scriptor said with a smile. "Oh, come right in! Would you like some soup? Soup is my cutie mark and my specialty," said the old mare. She opened the door wider and they both walked in. They felt relieved when they left the cold outside and into a cloud of warmth. Nox-Scriptor looked at her cutie mark and noticed that it was just like the old mare said. It looked like a wooden bowl with a chartreuse yellow liquid inside it. "What shall we call you?" asked Midnight. "My name is Deli Soup, but my friends call me Deli," said the old mare.

Deli Soup walked toward a pot filled with soup in the fire. She used her magic to take a spoon to fill a wooden bowl with soup and gave it to Midnight. Then she took another bowl and filled it and gave it to Nox-Scriptor. "Please do have a taste," said Deli Soup with a excited tone. They took a sip from the wooden bowl, and when the soup entered their mouths it was like a parade on their taste buds. "Oh my, this is delicious!" Nox-Scriptor said very happily.

"Where are you two from? You two do not act like you are from here," said Deli Soup. "Uh...Earth?" said Nox-Scriptor worriedly. "Earth? I thought it was just an old pony tale," said Deli Soup.

"Well, it is, it was supposed to be a joke,"

"You really don't want to tell me were you guys are from, do you?"

"Yup"

Deli Soup went to her couch and used magic to turn the couch into a bed. Once Deli Soup left the room and went into her bedroom, and they crawled into the soft bed. Nox-Scriptor had trouble sleeping. Why was he here? He closed his eyes and went into deep thought. He thought of different answers, and then he drifted into sleep.

The next morning the sun was shining brightly through the cheerful windows. "Hello, boys. Was it a good night sleep for you two?" asked Deli Soup. "Oh, you don't know the half of it," said Midnight. Both of them got out of bed and stretched. "Hey, Deli. Do you know where the bathroom is?" asked Nox-Scriptor. "In the outhouse, which is outside," Replied

Deli Soup. "An outhouse?" Nox-Scriptor said disappointed. Then, Nox-Scriptor went outside the house.

"So, what are we going to have for breakfast, Deli?" asked Midnight. "My delicious mushroom soup, of course!" Deli Soup replied. Once Nox-Scriptor came back into the house all three of them had mushroom soup. They all enjoyed the soup. Probably the best both of them ever tasted.

"I think we shall be going now, Deli Soup. Thanks for all you did," said Nox-Scriptor. "Oh, must you go? I always like visitors. Maybe later you can come back someday?" Said Deli Soup with a sad tone. Nox-Scriptor and Midnight said their goodbyes to Deli Soup before they left the house and went on the road. Nox-Scriptor found the dirt arrow that he drew last night, and then they went the way it pointed and walked away with warm bellies.
