Loneliness
A hot meal
Load Full StoryNext ChapterYou're eyes slowly open and your vision is greeted with the graceful moon. It's dark and the moon is the only source of light in your room. It shines through a window across your room illuminating only a small portion of your chambers; carpet, bed and bottom half of your dresser. You sit up and swing your legs over the right side of your bed, rub your eyes. You're conscious but not quite awake yet. In an uneven stumble, you head over to the balcony of your chambers, push open the door and lean on the railing, over looking all of Equestria. Embracing the crisp, cool air of the night, you let a sigh escape you.
This sight will probably never get old. You think to yourself, taking in the far outstretched land of Equestria.
Your gaze falls upon Ponyville, the small little hamlet brings back many memories. Being 'summoned' by Princess Celestia's protege, starting a new life. At first it was all scary and tough work. In the end it was all worth it, because now, you are living in Canterlot castle with both regal sisters, Luna & Celestia. You still have trouble understanding how you came this far so fast.
You've been the only human in Equestria for quite a long time, ever since Twilight tore you from your time and dropped you here, whenever this was.
You're mind drifts back to Ponyville, where it all started. You woke up, naked, exhausted and in severe pain when you first arrived in Equestria. When you first met Twilight after regaining consciousness you nearly screamed. Seeing a purple, talking unicorn after time traveling over millions of years, which was excruciatingly painful, was rather shocking. She explained everything to you once you calmed down.
Twilight tried a new spell to bring objects from different times to the caster's time. Apparently she was looking for an ancient artifact, you certainly met the criteria for what she was looking for but, you were too ancient, not to mention alive. Just barley.
Twilight was ecstatic that the spell worked yet confused and set back because it did not work in her favour. You were an artifact, but not one she was looking for.
You asked if there were other humans around, with the selfish intention of leaving this place like nothing ever happened. Twilight didn't know, naturally she did the best thing she did. Research, read and take notes. Twilight confirmed that the human race died out millions of years ago, reasons why of humanity's extinction are unknown. Most of whatever is left of the human race is either 1000 leagues under the sea, buried deep in the ground or in museums with incorrect labels and descriptions. The way she looks at what she's done, she did you a favor.
Thinking back, you didn't agree with her in fact you were quite angry with her when you realized what she did. You had a good life back then, albeit not the best one around, but you were content with what you had millions of years ago.
Twilight argued with you several times about how it was better to be here in Equestria, than back in your native country. Her arguments were very well-reasoned and always seemed to shoot yours down by pointing at them and yelling BANG! You'd normally end with a petty comeback like
"Yeah so? Maybe I like the smelly air and all that other crap!"
Twilight would usually give you a look that said "you're not making this any better for yourself." You never did when she won every argument you had.
"It's true," you admit to yourself lightly chuckling at your own stubbornness. "You can't win an argument against her."
Not every single moment in Ponyville was filled with one-sided arguments that you never won.
You and Twilight shared a couple intimate moments. The farthest you got was an 'accidental' kiss on the lips from her after Pinkie Pie met you. You wouldn't hear the end of it, Pinkie kept on firing questions at you like her life depended on it, not to mention the bouncing by Luna's eyelashes. You couldn't for the life of you force her to stop the bouncing. It eventually lead to Twilight kissing you after Pinkie bumped into her rear. Twilight still claims it to be completely and 110% accidental. You continuously teased her about it. She was so adorable when she blushed.
Your thoughts eventually find their way back to the present. You find yourself gazing towards Celestia's tower, there's a faint light flickering in the windows.
Odd. The Princess is usually asleep. What's she doing up so late?
You ponder several possibilities in your head. They seem to gradually get more far-fetched the more you think about them.
A brisk wind passes by, you shiver and head back inside to your warm room. It was getting close to winter and you made an arrangement with Twilight to visit her on Hearth Warming's eve.
You look to a grandfather clock across your room, it's ticking is definitely audible and it's almost hypnotic. You shake your head, waking yourself from whatever trance the clock had you in. It's 2:45 AM. You changed the times you sleep to allow time to see both Luna and Celestia in one day. Both say its sweet, but not necessary. A knock on your chamber doors interrupt your current thoughts.
"Come in!" You say, doing your best not to yawn, still drowsy from sleep.
It's one of the new chefs, he's an earth pony, grey coat, white mane parted to his left and light green eyes. His name slips your mind, but it doesn't matter, he has brought your breakfast on a small trolley.
"Your breakfast, sir." He cheerfully beams at you with a sincere smile.
"There is no need to call me sir!" You assure him with a small grin. You ask the stallion his name with youthful curiosity.
"Tasty Pastry, I am one of the new chefs!" He exclaims with a hoof to his chest.
You nod and assume that the meal came from him, and it is a pastry. Tasty, you're unsure about but the chefs in this castle have never disappointed your taste buds. So you have good feelings about this meal. You lift off the tray cover from your breakfast, the smell of cinnamon wafts into your nose and your mouth is watering already. Your breakfast is a cinnamon bun, your personal favourite.
"Oh! Princess Celestia wanted me to give you this!" Tasty Pastry reached into his apron pocket and pulled out a parchment scroll tied with red silk ribbon. You're thoughts on the cinnamon bun are ceased when the chef nudges you with the letter from Celestia a fourth time. You apologize and take the letter.
You notice the astounding quality of the parchment that was handed to you.
Celestia used the good parchment this time. Must be important.
"Alright, I'll just leave you, your letter and breakfast alone." Tasty Pastry blurts out as he places your breakfast on your night table next to your lamp. He wheels out the trolley and closes the door behind him a little more loudly than you would've liked. It startles you and you jump at the loud thud of you doors.
Your attention turns to your hot meal awaiting to be devoured on your night table, it's smell still lingers in your nose. You lick your lips and your stomach growls and pleads to be fed. You obey your stomach's demanding behavior and take the silverware to cut a small piece of the cinnamon bun. You stare at the piece you cut, it's steaming and smells just as good as the whole bun. It's literally begging to be eaten. You grant it's wish and place it in your mouth. Your eyes widen, not in horror or disgust, but in amazement. The piece of the cinnamon bun you just ate, it tastes really good! No, good would be an understatement. Great? Fantastic? Words are failing you at this point. Everything about this cinnamon bun is perfect. No, perfect won't cut it either. You ponder any possible words that could better describe this divine meal.
This cinnamon bun. It's fucking awesome!
With that thought, your mind can rest and you can eat the rest of this 'fucking awesome' cinnamon bun.
You stare at the rest of the cinnamon bun and a wild smile grows across your face.
You're going to enjoy this breakfast.
