Chapter 4 – The library

Meanwhile in the library, Twilight was searching for book with some kind of medicine what can help Rainbow Dash and also it will help with healing their wings.

“Ehm... Spitfire? How you know that we are in there and that we’re in trouble?”

“Well... I think that telling you that if was coincidence is useless so I will tell you the truth. Not a long time ago I saw Lightning Dust wandering around Ponyville and I also thought that she will want to revenge. And she did. I am sorry that I came after so long time but I know that I won’t handle them both so I went find Soarin and ask him for help.”

“We must thank you again. You saved our lives and maybe lives of much more ponies. But if Trixie will get back power of the amulet it will be our end.”

“But if we will get rid of Lightning Dust then Trixie will be lost.”

Soarin walked in and joined conversation “Well... if Lightning Dust stayed in the academy she would never join Trixie. I know something about her. Dark Flame told me...”

Spitfire stopped Soarin with rage in her eyes “DARK FLAME? How many times I told you to don’t talk about him? I know you liked him but please don’t talk about him.”

“But I wasn’t alone who liked him, right Spitfire? And I wanted to tell you...”

“SHUT UP! Arghh... Twilight what do you need for that medicine?”

“As I see I have everything so I don’t need... wait... oh this is embarrassing... I don’t have water.”

“I will bring you some. You’d better get far from Soarin too because when he’s in this mood it’s dangerous being close to him. Trust me I know much about it!”

Spitfire picked one bottle and fiercely shut door behind her.

“What’s wrong with her Soarin? And who is Dark Flame?”

“Well... better question is who WAS Dark Flame, if you understand me.”

“Oh... yes I do. I am sorry.”

“You don’t need to be. It’s OK you didn’t know that. And now when she isn’t here I can tell to you what I wanted. Dark Flame saved Lightning Dust when she was a little filly. It was the same day he died. I think that Lightning Dust’s dream was to become one of us. But when Rainbow Dash told Spitfire that she leaves the academy Spitfire had to choose. And of course that she choosed...”

“Rainbow Dash because she saved her life at the best flier competition right?”

“Yes. And also because Rainbow Dash performed sonic rainboom. This choice totally broke Lightning Dust heart. I watched her because I think that Dark Flame died for her life and he was my friend so I don’t want to let his life get lost for nothing. First days she was sad but then her sadness turned into pure rage and hatred.”

At that time Spitfire came back with bottle of water. “Here you go Twilight. And as I guess Soarin you told everything right? It doesn’t matter. I will go for a walk, so don’t wait for me.”

Spitfire again left and Twilight started preparing medicine for Rainbow Dash.

“Twilight are you sure that Trixie will not come here?”

“Yes I am. And if she will come it will be useless for her. To get back her strength she will need heart of bigger animal what can talk but not pony.”

“To get her strength back???”

“I mean strength of her amulet. And preparation of potion what will get back its old power is difficult and long. But as I see our medicine is done. Nurse Redheart gave me this recipe so it should work.”

Twilight walked to Rainbow Dash, opened her her mouth and spilled medicine into it.

“Ehm... Twilight I think that this will kill her not help her.”

“Don’t be afraid. I saw how Nurse Redheart is doing this and it worked. Just trust me. And please can I ask you a favor? Dash will need to relax; can you take her to bed?”

Soarin nod and smiled at Twilight.

“It’s upstairs. It will not be problem to find it there’s only one room. And one more thing Soarin. Thank you!”

Soarin took Rainbow Dash to bed, carefully put her in it and covered her with blanket. Then turned and slowly went back to Twilight. But his walk was interrupted by Rainbow Dash.

“Urgh... Soarin? Is it you?” Rainbow slowly asked.

“Yes it’s me, but you will now need rest so go sleep and I will go back to Twilight.”

“No, please! Stay here with me. At least for five minutes.”

“All right but then I will go downstairs, deal?”

Rainbow looked at Soarin and answered “Deal.”

Soarin turned back to Rainbow Dash and sat near her on the bed. Rainbow Dash was in horrible pain, but inside she felt nice. She was so close to Soarin. Yes it’s true that if he would be closer it would be better, but this was good too.

Meanwhile Twilight is writing litter to Princess Celestia about Trixie and Lightning Dust. But suddenly someone knocked at the door. It was almost midnight but Twilight decided to open. There was dark blue pony with Wonderbolt’s outfit.

“This is like Wonderbolt day. What do you want?”

“Well... My name is Dark Flame and Wonderbolts sent me to get...”

“Dark Flame you say? This name is similar to me... Wonderbolts sent you huh? But aren’t you supposed to be dead?” Then Twilight turned to stairs and shouted “Soarin! Can you come here?”

“Soarin? What? He is here?”

“Yes. And he will come.”

Soarin answered from upstairs “Yes I’m going.” but Rainbow Dash didn’t like Twilight’s idea “What? But you said that you will be with me here for five minutes. We have a deal!”

“I know Rainbow Dash but Twilight needs me. When she will not need me anymore I will come back to you.”

Rainbow Dash looked at Soarin and slightly smiled. Soarin went downstairs and saw that dark blue pony. “Dark Flame? What are you...? I thought that you are... I am glad that I see you Dark Flame.”

“Stop talking Soarin. Is Spitfire here?”

“No she isn’t and she won’t come till midnight.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes I am. She never came so early.”

“Well... please don’t tell this to anypony. Officially I am dead.”

“All right but what happened?”

“When we’ve separated something tried to tear my wings from my body. I couldn’t control them and felt in front of light blue unicorn. Then they caught me.”

“Who?”

“Shadowbolts. They were following me from the beginning. If you remember they were hunting is before. I had to choose. Become a Shadowbolt or get killed. So I joined them, but in my heart I still was a Wonderbolt.”

“And why you want to be supposed as somepony who died?”

“If Shadowbolts will get to know what I am doing in here and that you recognised me, they will kill us all. And well... I really won’t allow them to hurt Spitfire.”

“WHAT? After so many years you still love her? There is no Shadowbolt mare or what?”

“Of course yes. There are much Shadowbolt mares, but none of them is like Spitfire. I didn’t see Spitfire for so long time but I still feel that there’s only room for her. But what’s with her? Do you know something about her? Is she happy...? I mean, did she find her special somepony.”

“Yes I know about her. She’s with me in team. And she seems to be happy but inside of her she isn’t. She’s taking long walks at night from the day you’ve lost. We all thought that you are dead.”

In that time Spitfire walked in. Soarin quickly hid Dark Flame behind himself, while trying to get Spitfire’s concentration off of him.

“Oh Spitfire. What are doing here? I mean why you are here so fast?”

Spitfire only past them with her head put down and with sad face. “It doesn’t matter Soarin. There’s nothing what matters now. I will go sleep. Good night, you two.”

When Dark Flame saw how sad is Spitfire he had to do it... “What? Good night and so sadly? I didn’t see you for ten years and thirty-four days and you just say to me good night?”

Spitfire raised her and looked so happy “Dark Flame... is it really... you?”

“Yes. But still I have to go. I am sorry. I hope that we will meet once again.”

“No, no, no!” Spitfire started crying “You can’t leave now! I didn’t see you so long time and you just... you want to leave?! Please don’t go! I don’t want to lose you again. It was terrible time. No you just can’t leave.” Then Spitfire ran to Dark Flame and hugged him “I won’t let you go! I won’t lose you again! I want to be with you until we die!”

Soarin watch these two with no emotions in his eyes but with hatred in his heart. He was so long time alone with Spitfire but still he couldn’t find way how tell her what he really feels. And now Dark Flame has returned.

“As I see you will not need me anymore so I will be upstairs.”

Soarin returned back to Rainbow Dash, sat near to her and put down his head.

“Hey Soarin you’re back. That’s great!”

“Yeah... I am back.”

“What’s wrong with you?”

“Oh... nothing... I just... I don’t know how this war will end.”

“War? What war? You mean Trixie? Oh come on she’s weak. This is not even battle!”

“If Twilight was right she is right now making potion what can get back strength to her amulet and that will be a real problem.”

“You’re kidding, right? How can a WONDERBOLT be afraid?”

“Rainbow you know nothing about this. Just go sleep. Good night.”

“What? But I don’t want to...”

“You want Dash. We will need your strength later.” Soarin stood up and walked away.

In this time but far away Trixie and Lightning Dust were searching for griffon. “These are the Griffon Mountains. Gilda will be probably here.”

“I’ve never seen here before Lightning Dust, so you will have to find her, show me who it is and I will take care of the rest.”

“What’s ‘the rest’?”

“If I’ll tell you then you won’t be surprised, right? So just find her and then watch.”

“We must get to the city. But there’s one problem. I don’t really know where she is now. It was before eleven years when I met her.”

“Dear Lightning Dust. We don’t need that Gilda. We need griffon! Do you see that one? I think that this amulet still have enough strength to let me transform once more.”

Trixie transformed into one of griffons and walked to the city. She saw that her target is going into building what looked like a pub. And it was a pub. Trixie walked in and after short time she pointed and the griffon what looked same as Trixie and shouted “CHANGELING! SHE’S A CHANGELING!” Everygriffon turned at griffon what was Trixie pointing at, jumped on her and started to tear her apart.

“What’s wrong?” one of them asked.

“But when you kill changeling it has to show its real look.” Said second griffon and all looked at Trixie.

“Not all changeling.” Trixie said “some of them need their heart to be specially destroyed and then they will reveal their true form. I know how to destroy it. Just give it to me and watch that body. You will see what will happen”

They looked at themselves and decided to give the heart to Trixie. “Here you go. Destroy it!”

“But... there are missing some parts!”

“So is it impossible to destroy it?”

“No... I only hope that it will work.” Trixie left the pub and returned to Lightning Dust.

“How was it going? Do you have what you want Trixie?”

“Yes. I have it.” said Trixie and transformed back to her form. “Now we have to return to the Everfree Forest. I think that there’s perfect place for making potions in there.”

“Ehm... What place do you think?”

“The old chapel.”

“But it’s only a ruin now.”

“Yes. And it’s our advantage. They will not search for us in there.”

Nothing else happened that night. Trixie was creating potion while Lightning Dust was checking the area. In library Rainbow Dash was turning on her bed and couldn’t fall asleep. Soarin was too sad to sleep and Twilight was studying the Alicorn Amulet. The only one who fell asleep were Spitfire with Dark Flame.
