"Hey Roberts! BODY CHECK!!", Yelled the over sized bully as he rammed into the scrawny kid crashing him into the nearest set of lockers.
As the giant retreated a few steps back, the boy fell to the ground, writhing in pain."See you later Roberts." yelled the bulky neanderthalic individual."Next time, try not to be so emo, you little faggot!" Just as the last word of that sentence left his mouth, the halls filled with the laughter of the many students.
"Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrng!" The bell had sounded to signify that first hour was about to start. With students walking in every direction to their regular routine, the small boy picked himself up and noticed that his back pack was missing.
"Your probably asking yourself, who is this Roberts kid who was just treated like an human sized rag doll. Well, that kid is me. My name is Tyler Roberts. The genetic defect that just tried to crush all of my internal organs is Seth, the school's star quarterback. The dude is always looking for ways to make my life a living hell and so far, he's succeeding."
Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The town was quiet, the town was quiet, the people were friendly, and NO!!! We did not live in a swamp or have alligators as pets. My parents were big time doctors and were widely known as the best doctors in town. They actually come from a long line of doctors on both sides of my family. That line might have continued had I had any interest in becoming a doctor or had my parents had another child before their unfortunate and untimely demise. They were both on their way home from work late at night for Christmas, a few days before then to be exact. I was about seven years old, waiting at home with my grandparents. When the doorbell rings, I rush to the door as fast as i could only to find that there was an officer standing in the door way baring horrible news. They were killed in a car accident. A drunken idiot got behind the wheel to get more beer for a Christmas party they were having. They got broadsided. The impact killed them both instantly. When I heard the news it was like my entire being was shattered. This happy kid who didn't have a care in the world with parents that gave him the brightest of smiles was gone. All that was left was a shadow of that person with a heart that was shattered beyond repair. What a Christmas that was, right? With my parents death, all the money they had saved up over the years, their stocks, the trust funds they had for me, I had inherited it all. I was set for life, but what good was any of it to a kid that just lost his parents.
After a few months, my Grandparents on my mother's side assumed guardianship and Everything my parents were, they were ten times more. I had moved in with them in their big house in Connecticut. They put me in a new school where most of the kids were just stuck up little punks that came from rich families. Still traumatized, I kept to my self. Didn't interact with any other kids, just sat alone in the corner, under a tree when it was recess. Recess, absolutely the worst. That's when the kids would start to gang up on me. Hitting me, calling me names, just as little kids would do. and this went on from third grade onto middle school, from middle school onto my high school. The only thing that changed were the people. And that's the story of little Tyler.
As the students are making their way to their class rooms, I frantically looked for my school bag. Knowing Seth, he probably took it while i was down and threw it into a trash can one his way to class. Fortunately, i know what class he has first hour. Unfortunately, he sits in the desk behind me in first hour. The guy was a real muscle head but wasn't the smartest guy around. All brawn, no brain. The exact opposite of me.
I consider myself a technical genius. Not like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs mind you, but i was pretty knowledgeable. I've built my own computer, I can identify a problem and fix it in no time. I was a member of the computer club and I've helped fix the school computers numerous times. I never have to worry about a lack of cables and wires because I know who to make my own. I am the schools computer guru. And why do i get beat up? Because people don't change. That's what sucks. You could have all the money in the world and fix everyone's computer problems, but none of that matters to assholes.
"Hey Tyler, wait up!" I knew instantly who it was that was calling out to me by the sound of his voice. It was my one and only friend, Coby Alexander, captain of the basketball team. Coby and I have been friends since i had moved to Connecticut. When He saw how the other kids would ridicule me with their name calling and mocking laughter. I never forgot that first act of kindness that someone had done for me. To this day, we have been the best of friends."Hey man. What's up?" he asked as he caught up with me.
"Jock, thrashed, stolen belongings, late for class. The usual." I answered back to my annoyed pal.
"Why do you put up with him?"
"Dont worry dude, I might not have to deal with him much longer. Have you seen the Neurotically Yours episode about bullies?"
"You mean that web series with the realist squirrel that goes on rants about the state of the world?"
"Yep. There were some really good ideas about how to deal with a bully that insured that he wouldn't mess with me again."
"Like what?" Coby said with a worried look on his face.
"Like throwing him down a flight of stairs, throwing a chair or a desk or anything that isnt nailed down to the floor. Punching him in the balls."
"Dude, what the hell?" he yelled in disbelief.
"What? You asked?"
"Are you looking for a one way ticket to jail?"
"If i do any of that, the first thing that will happen is that I'll be brought to the principal's office because i beat up a fellow "student" and when he starts the whole question and answer deal. I'll just immediately say 'I was merely defending myself against continuous attacks perpetrated daily by this neanderthalic individual and had to resort to drastic measures because the learning institution I attend sat idle without intervention, allowing routine beatings i received to continue. I should sue you.' Just like Foamy had put it."
".....dude, that's messed up."
"Do explain. because the way i see it, I've had to deal with this jackass every day since middle school and now its continued on to my sophomore year in high school. That's five years Seth has made my life a hell that i had to deal with. and you're saying I'm messed up?"
"I'm just worried. You could get expelled for that."
"So what, they expel me and lose a lawsuit. In the end, i win."
"Whatever, i know you aren't serious." he said in an irritated tone
"Then why were you worried?"
"HEY COBY!" yelled a voice. Coby turned around to see who it was that called out to him, but i didn't have to i knew that it was another friend of Coby's that was on the basketball team by the sound of his voice. It's a special gift of mine. "Coach needs us in the gym for a meeting."
"Alright, give me a second!", he yelled back and turned to me. "Tyler, promise me you wont do anything stupid."
"Fine." I said. "But i cant make any promises." He turned and shook his head at my comment and ran toward that same direction as his team member.
As i approached the class room, i looked in the nearest trash can to see if the idiot had thrown my bag in it and lo and behold there it was. but as i pulled it out i saw and felt that someone had poured coke all over it.
"Great!" I sighed to myself. "That's how it's going to go today."
"SPIKE! SPIIIIKE!!" yelled a purple pony "SPIKE!! WAKE YOUR SCALY HIDE UP!!
"I'm up. I'm up. What's got you're tail in a bunch? I was having a really great dream Twilight." answered the purple dragon
"Sorry Spike. It's just that we have a lot to do today and i also have an assignment from Princess Celestia and i want to get to it at least by the afternoon."
"What kind of assignment is it?" Spike asked with curiosity in his eyes as Twilight pulled a book out of her bag.
"The Princess wants me to learn about opening inter-dimensional windows and that's why we have to hurry and finish our errands today so i can get started."
"Wait a second, isn't that advanced magic?" asked the surprised dragon. "Yes, Spike. After I had passed the test at the Crystal Empire, Princess Celestia thought that i was ready to further my studies."
"Wow Twilight, that's amazing!"
"Oh, stop it Spike. Come on. We have a lot to do today. We were asked by Applejack to help with repairs to her barn, Pinkie Pie asked that we help her with a party she's throwing for Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake's birthday. Rarity needs us to make some adjustments on our outfits for the Gala coming up and Rainbow Dash needs us to help her with a new trick she's trying out."
"Um, Twi, do you think we'll have time to do all that today and still have time to start the assignment." Spike asked
"Yes, Spike, I do. I made a schedule for everything and if we follow it, we should have plenty of time for me to begin by this evening." Twilight said with enthusiasm in her voice. "Here, you can hold on to the list. Are you ready?"
"Yeah. Where do we go first?"
"Why don't you check the list? You ARE holding it."
"Oh, right. We need to go to Applejack's first. Makes since, she would be the person to want to start working early."
As the two made their way to Applejack's farm, they saw a young filly they know on her way to the school house. "Hi Twilight. Hi Spike," said the small yellow pony
"Good morning, Applebloom." Twilight responded."Is Applejack ready down at the farm?"
"Yup. Her an' Big Mac are waitin' for ya right now." said the young filly as she skipped along to school.
"Good to know, that's where we're heading now. Have a good day at school."
"Thanks Twilight, good luck."
It wasn't long before Twilight and Spike where walking up to the barn on the Apple families land.
"Mornin' Twilight, Spike." greeted an orange pony with a stetson hat on with a red stallion standing next to her.
"Good morning Applejack, Big Macintosh. Are you both ready to get started with the repairs." Twilight responded
"Eeyep." said the red stallion
"What repairs need to be made? Everything looks fine." Spike asked as he looked at the outside of the barn.
"That's because we need to fix what's on the inside, little buddy. Not the outside." Applejack said
"Oh" Spike said as he and the three ponies walked in the barn.
When Applejack said that they needed to make repairs, she meant it in every way. The top deck and the support beams were all rotted through and by the looks and the sounds of the creaking wood, there couldn't be anymore waiting.
"So what is it that you need us to do?" Twilight asked while looking around.
"Well, we really need tah replace the support beams and 'ahm afraid that if we try to do it our selves, the whole barn will fall on us. That's where you come in. We just need you to use your magic to hold the building up until we can take down these old beams and put new ones up. You think you kin do that sugarcube?"
"Of course Applejack. You can count on me."
"Thank you kindly, Twi. Ah don;t know what Ah'd do without ya."
"It's no problem at all AJ. Glad to help."
"Well, this day was surprisingly not as bad as I had thought it would be." I said to myself as I walked down the street after school had let out. After this morning's routine beating, Seth had just seemed to forget about me. Probably due to the fact that football season started and their first game was next weekend. Thank God, because that would take me off his mind and he would be more concerned about going to state this year.
It wasn't long before I was walking up to the front door of my house. As i walked through the door, I was greeted by Hailey, my Husky-Wolf hybrid. She jumped up to my level and looked at my with her pretty sapphire blue eyes and started whining, showing that she missed me just as much as the day before. I found her about two of living in Connecticut. I was at the park near the school i attend. I was just sitting under a big oak tree when this dirty pup came out of nowhere and just laid his head on my lap. He looked up at me with these eyes that no one could ever say 'no' to. It took a lot to convince my grands to let me keep him, but i managed to do so. She's been my best friend ever since then.
"Hello Tyler. How was you day?" asked a man at stair case.
"It was fine Micheal." I answered as I made the excited dog get down.
Micheal Harris is our caretaker. He basically watches and cleans the house while I'm gone, and helps my grandmother around the house now that she getting to that age.
"How's Granny doing today?"
"She's fine. But i fear that her condition is worsening?" answered the young man.
"I would worry that much about her. She may be old but she's strong."
"Who are you calling 'old'. I'm still as spry as ever?" yelled a voice at the top of the stair case
"Sorry Granny," I called back. "Just don't get over excited."
"Oh, don't you worry about me. I'll be fine."
"I know, but I don't want you to have a hearts attack like grand-dad."
Geoffry and Merriam Hughes are my Grandparents. They were both well known in town. My grandfather for being a war hero in Vietnam and my grandmother for being the most strict of parents. She had raised five kids where as my mother was the second youngest. She had raised all three on her own while her husband was gone for his deployment and she raised them well. She taught them to respect her as well as others. When her Oldest son had told her that he was eighteen and didnt have to listen to her, the next day when he had left the house, he returned to see that all of his clothes and belongings were out in the drive way and the youngest sister had her own room. My granny wouldn't put up with it and she still doesn't . People always know who they're talking to when they speak to my grandmother. As for my grand dad he passed on two years ago because of a massive hearts attack.
"Quit your worrying, I've got a few more years left in me. I'm as healthy as a horse."
"That's what worries me." I said under my breath
"What was that?" She raised her voice
"Nothing. Nothing at all. I've got homework to do. C'mon Hailey" I responded quickly, moving up the stairs and side stepping pass the fear inspiring old women.
"Yeah, that's what i thought." she said with a smile on her face.
"Micheal!" she called out.
"Yes ma'am." Micheal responded.
"You will watch him if something ever happens to me, right?"
"Yes ma'am. You and Mr. Hughes have both been kind to me all these years. It's the least I could do."
"Good. I feel as if my time is coming close. It wont be too long that I'll be gone. Now help me into the kitchen. its time to make dinner"
"Yes ma'am, Mrs. Hughes."
"Why did i almost provoke the old women." I said as my companion and I enter my room and close the door. "I must have a death wish." I said to Hailey. The dog just stared at me wagging it's tail and tilted it's head. "Go chew on your bone or something." And with that the dog immediately ran to the corner of the room where a big pillow was with her half eaten bone.
"Good thing i don't really have homework to do. Now i can finish my project." I said as I made my way to make work desk. My work area was littered with cables, screws and parts from both a PS3 and Xbox. I had an idea to make an operating system for a new console I'm making that can play both PS3 and Xbox 360 games. I've got a good while to go before I'm finished. "Let's get this crap started." I said as I placed my headphones on and started blaring Brantley Gilbert off my iPhone.
"Man, That was a long day. I'm just glad we're done." Spike said with a tired look on his face.
"I know, Spike. Let's just get back to the library so I can start reading the book the Princess gave. You can go to sleep when we're home" Twilight said with an equally exhausted look on her face.
"Oh yeah, I forgot that I have some gems back at home! How could I forget?" Spike proclaimed with a burst of energy.
"Oh Spike, you and your gems."
"Twilight! Twilight! I Need your help!" said a quiet and worried voice.
The Purple unicorn turned her head to see who it was that was calling for her. What she saw was a yellow Pegasus with a pink mane running as fast as she could.
"Fluttershy! What's wrong? Did something happen?" Twilight asked
"It's awful. Just terrible, absolutely terrible." said the worried mare
"What is?"
"Angel bunny ran off. I looked all around my cottage but I couldn't find him. But i saw foot prints that look like his leading into the Everfree Forest."
"Why would he go in there?"
"I dont know. Please Twilight. Will you help me find him?"
"Of course. Spike you head on to the Library and wait for me there?"
"Will do." Spike said as he hurried off.
"Let's go, Fluttershy."
The two ponies ran as fast as they could to the Everyfree Forest. It wasn't long before they were at the edge of the forest. Twilight was the first to enter but Fluttershy froze dead in her tracks.
"Fluttershy, what are you doing, let's go."
"b-b-but its d-dark and sc-scary in there." said the stuttering timid pegasus.
"Come on, Fluttershy. The longer we stand here, the better the chances are that something else finds Angel."
"O-okay. We're coming angel. Don't worry." Fluttershy said finally working up the courage to enter the forest.
*sigh* "Another syntax error. Dammit" I said to myself as I buried my face into my hands. "I knew this was difficult, but damn."
I slide my headphones from off of my head to around my neck. I had been working nearly for three hours so it was no wonder why i was tired and aggravated. I turned in my chair to look in the corner and see what Hailey was doing, but she was laying on her back with her bone hanging out her mouth sleeping. "She has the right idea" i scoffed at myself. It was time to give up. My head was hurting from too much thinking and typing too many pseudocodes. I got out of chair and walked out of my room and to the bathroom to relieve myself.
As i finished my business I hear my grandmothers voice calling me down for dinner. I started down the stairs but heard the sounds of nails rubbing against the floor and the jingling sound of Hailey's collar. Even she knew it was time to eat. We both walked into the dining room. I took my place at the table where Micheal and granny were waiting and Hailey went straight to the other side of the room where her meal was waiting for her.
"So how was school today. Did that Seth boy give you any trouble." granny said breaking the few minutes of silence.
"It was surprisingly pleasant. I got the usual morning beating but that was all." I answered
"Tyler, when are you going to stand up against this boy? Haven't you had enough?"
I thought back to this morning when I was talking with Coby and told him my "plan". He was right when he said i wasn't serious. I wasn't going to do it, I had no intention of doing that. That wasn't how i did things.
"I don't know Gran. I just don't know what I'm going to do."
"What do you mean 'you don't know'? Tell the principal about it. Put an end to it."
"I doubt that will change anything. He'll still find ways to mess with me."
"Oh for the..! Alright then. Come Monday morning, I'm going to go to your school and march straight to the principal's office to discuss the issue."
"Oh God, no. Please don't do this Gran. You don't need to..."
"No!" Interrupted the aggravated old women and shot up. "This WILL end! I'm tired of seeing you come home with bruises and..." she stopped and started gasping and clenched her chest. Both Micheal and I knew instantly she had pushed her self too far. Even the dog knew. As we both rushed over to her side to hold her up so she would fall and slowly sat her down back in the chair. "I'm fine. Quit worrying about me." she said breathing heavy. Hailey made her way to the over excited women and laid her head in granny's lap and started her whining. "You quit too. It'll take a lot more than anxiety for me to keel over." said the tired old women petting the dogs head.
" Granny, I know your worried about me, but you don't need to. Trust that i can handle myself. I'm already sixteen years old."
"Alright. You really are your mother's son. Stubborn as a mule."
"We both know where she got THAT from." I chuckled.
"Oh, Hush. Micheal, help me up to my room, would you please?"
"Yes ma'am." Micheal respond as he helped the exhausted women.
"I'll start washing the dishes." I said. Gran and her aid were already walking up the stair case.
I looked over to Hailey to see that she was right were she was where gran was sitting."What a night, huh?" She just looked back up at me and just laid down and with that i collected the dirty dishes, silverware, and cups to be washed.
The two ponies were walking up to Fluttershy's cottage with their furry friend in hoof. "I'm glad that Zecora found Angel before anything else did." Twilight said even more tired than before her's and Fluttershy's search for her pet bunny.
"So am I. Thanks again Twilight for coming help find him." said the relieved pegasus.
"It's not a problem at all Fluttershy." She looked at Angel. "Try not to run off again, okay?" Angel gave a little salute as to show he understood.
"I think it's time I headed back home. I didn't realize it had gotten this late. Good night Fluttershy."
"Good night Twilight. Sleep well." Fluttershy said with Angel on her back waving goodbye.
As Twilight walked through the door of the Library, she saw her assistant sitting on the stairs waiting for her return. "Twilight! You're back! Did you find Angel?" asked the purple dragon.
"Yes we did. Zecora found him near her hut. Lucky for us."Twilight said. "I guess I won't be able to read that book. And I was looking forward to starting tonight."
"We're not doing anything tomorrow. You can start in the morning."
"I guess you're right. We had a long day today. Why don't you go ahead to bed. I'll be up in a little bit, I need to clean up and put the rest of the books back up."
"Okay. Good night Twi." Spike yawned.
"Good night."
It didnt take long for Twilight to put the books up. She looked at the table where the book that Princess Celestia had given her for her assignment. "Maybe I'll read a little bit, then head up to bed." She said as she maid her way to the table and cracked open the book and started reading the first page.
