The Unexpected Saviour
Chapter 5: Duel with Scorcher

-Rainbow-
The morning after Jackson played his ‘games’, I woke up sprawled on the floor. I noticed a second later that my hoof was in my nether region. I had dreamt of racing the ‘Bugatti Veyron’ as Jackson had called it. I also dreamed of Jackson rutting me, and hard! Oh what a great dream it was!
I pulled my hoof out quickly with a shlock and rushed to the bathroom, closing the door behind me quietly. I turned on the water and took a shower, enjoying the warm water flowing down my body. I finished my shower quickly, missing nothing with the lather. I could see myself in my coat, I shined so much.
After I got out of the shower, I went to examine my wings, mane and tail. I looked at my wings and was almost given the shock of my life. I am amazed I could still fly with these wings.
My primaries had gaps and overlaps in the feathers everywhere, my secondaries had more overlaps, gaps and tufts of feathers. My coverts were just . . . unbelievable. Funny how depression could affect me so quickly and effectively.
I preened my wings quickly and effectively, and after a while, my wings were at least acceptable to my standards.
I looked at my mane and tail. They were at least sorted into their proper color alignments. I let them be.
I left the bathroom to find Jackson had woken up.
“How long were you up, baby?” I ask him nervously.
“I heard a squeal and woke up.” He replied sheepishly.
-Jackson-
‘I’m sorry to think this Rainbow, but damn you, you woke me from a good dream. I was dreaming of racing you, me being in a Bugatti Veyron. Then, after I had won, we had passionate, hardcore sex. It was awesome! Unfortunately, you woke me up in the middle of the best part.’ I thought to myself nervously.
“So what are we gonna do today?” I ask her, my mind effectively cleared of the thoughts I had less than 10 seconds ago.
“Well, I need to go speak to Twilight today. I don’t have any ideas on how to care for you. I’m gonna ask her for a book to help me out. Maybe you could stay here and look around Cloudsdale. Here is some money.” She dropped about 50 bits into my hands. “I’ll see ya later, baby” she left the house and I heard the rushing of wind signifying her taking to the skies. I left the house just in time to see her fly behind a cloud, her rainbow tail disappearing form my view shortly after.
I decide to head the opposite way that Rainbow went. I meandered through Cloudsdale, looking for an interesting shop to browse. I got my fair share of glares. Thankfully, I also got a few smiles and even a few ponies friendly enough to greet me. One pony stood out in my mind the most.
She told me her name was Rainburst Sunflow. She had a purple coat with a red mane and blue tail. She was like a teacher I had on earth. She was totally driven by logic and reason, with some problems related to others’ stress and drama.
She was doing the same thing as me, so we just wandered around Cloudsdale, browsing stores and shops that interested us occasionally. Eventually we reached the town square and saw a large crowd of ponies there, bowing to something I couldn’t see. I didn’t notice that Rainburst had stopped, and I walked through the crowd of bowing ponies quietly, and alone. I noticed a clearing of the ponies and snuck towards it and stopped right at the fringe of ponies, just close enough to see the reason for the bowing ponies.
‘Oh shit, that’s the Lightning Wings’ I freak out mentally. I quickly take a knee and bow my head nervously, not noticing I had moved just far enough forward to be seen by the Lightning Wings.
“Well, look what we have here” I heard a spiteful voice say.
‘Shit’ I mouth to myself angrily.
-Rainbow-
I made good time, getting to Twilight’s house. It took only 15 minutes for me to get to her library.
‘Record time! Yeah!’ I think excitedly.
I don’t worry about the door; I just barrel through the door, almost breaking it. I stop just past the doorway and see Twilight looking at me in shock.
“Surprise” I say a little sheepishly.
“Hey, Rainbow, what’s up?”
“I need some books to help me take care of Jackson. I have no idea what to do, Twilight.” I said in a quick voice.
“Calm down, Rainbow. I have a few books for just such an occasion.” She replied. She went around the library, taking out a total of four books from shelves that had countless numbers of books. She hands them to me.
“These books will help. One book is about human emotions and how to understand them, one is a human cookbook, the third book is about . . .” she pauses and continues a little sadly. “Relationship advice. . .”
“Twilight, what’s wrong?” I ask her tenderly.
“It’s you and Jackson. I thought I would be the one to save Equestria with my human, and be loved by said human. I think all of the mane six, other than you that is, feel the same way as I do. I don’t even know how but I feel like I love him.”
Rainbow was taken aback by her friend’s confession.
“Do you really feel that way?” I ask tenderly.
“Yes, I do. I’m not the lying-type pony. You know that, Rainbow.”
I felt protective of Jackson for only a second, but after that passed, I felt glad. It was an odd, twisted kind of glad. I was glad because of an idea I had. There would hopefully be no drama in the idea either.
I voiced my idea to Twilight. “How does this sound, Twilight? If all the others of the mane six feel the same as you, we could enact an idea I just came up with.”
“What’s the idea, Rainbow?” Twilight asked hopefully. “Wait a second. Where’s Jackson?”
“I left him in Cloudsdale” I say
“Do you know what today is, Rainbow?” she asks frantically.
I remember after some thought and horror claws at my heart. “Oh no, the Lightning Wings are in Cloudsdale today! Sorry, Twilight gotta go!”
I race out the door, and fly towards cloudsdale with all the strength and speed I could muster.
-Jackson
“How did you get into Cloudsdale, human?” the red Pegasus asked me spitefully.
“How do you think I got into Cloudsdale? I was flown up by Ra- by a Pegasus.” I stated, matter-of-factly and also kind of offended. But this couldn’t be a worse time to be offended.
“You rode a Pegasus to Cloudsdale? You have dishonored the Pegasi by riding one” the Pegasus replied angrily.
“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. . .” I trail off. I should have kept my mouth shut.
“It’s a bigger ‘deal’ than you thought it was, human.”
-Rainbow-
I had finally reached the gates of Cloudsdale, getting more than enough glares to last me a week. I flew fast and low, trying to go as fast as I could.
There were not many Pegasi in the streets so I flew faster. I got to the house, burst inside and knew he wasn’t inside by the time I landed. I turned and rushed out the door, taking to the sky, and calling his name.
“Jackson! . . . . . . Jackson! . . . . . . Jackson!” I called over and over, looking everywhere for him.
I reached Cloudsdale’s town square and flew up to get a better view. I didn’t like what I had seen. Jackson standing less than 15 feet away from the most hated Lightning Wing member, Scorcher. I flew towards a clear spot next to Jackson.
“Jackson!” I cried out.
-Jackson-
“Jackson!”
Rainbow landed right next to me in a flurry of cloud dust.
“Rainbow Dash. I should have known this human would be under your hoof.” A commanding voice stated.
Everyone looked towards the commanding, powerful voice. I saw the biggest Pegasus- no, the biggest animal I had seen in real life. He stood at least ten feet tall.
“Lord Icewing, this human has ridden on the back of a Pegasus. He has dishonored the Pegasi with his rash actions-” the red Pegasus reported to the leader, who I had recognized immediately to be Icewing, leader of the Lightning Wings.
“I know, Scorcher. I’m sure he understands what he did. Right, human?”
“Yes sir. I only rode on a Pegasus’ back to get to Cloudsdale. I have no disrespect for the Lightning Wings or the Pegasi”
“And Rainbow. You know you could have used a chariot. It is still demeaning, but it isn’t as bad as letting a human ride you.” Lord Icewing chastised Rainbow.
“Sorry, Lord Icewing. I was too occupied with my happiness of being chosen.” She replied with shame.
“It’s understandable. You are the first human to see Cloudsdale in the history of Equestria. I also understand you know we Pegasi are no little pets to be ridden when you want to.” Lord Icewing directed at me.
“Yes, sir, Lord Icewing” I reply. I guess my three years of Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps are finally paying off. “I understand that Pegasi are amazing evolutions of the equestrian race. That’s why Pegasi are able to fly. I have done much research. I also respect all who respect me.”
“Good, Jackson. I wouldn’t have wanted to kill you if had you not understood.” Lord Icewing replied with a small measure of satisfaction.
“But Lord Icewing, he has soiled the honor of the Pegasi” Scorcher argued.
“No, Scorcher, he has soiled nopony’s honor.” Icewing replied
“But, Lord Icewing-”
“But, nothing, Scorcher. I have forgiven him. You should too.” Icewing retorted
“Scorcher, here is a good sign of a master and servant; the servant listens to, and believes his master in anything the master tells the servant” I goad him.
“What are you trying to do, Jackson? Get yourself killed?” I hear Rainbow yell frantically in the background. I ignore her.
“Silence, human. You try my patience” Scorcher threatened me.
“No, you try Lord Icewing’s patience. I can see it in his eyes that he has observed your mistreatment of Pegasi that, as you say, ‘have soiled the honor’ of the Pegasi.” I taunt back.
Scorcher’s eyes bulged and, if anything is possible, his face got redder. He almost screamed, “YOU WILL DIE, YOU WEAK, PUNY HUMAN!!!”
“If you kill Jackson, Scorcher, you will be stripped of your rank in the Lightning Wings, and will have to restart as a recruit” Icewing interjects.
Scorcher stopped and thought for a second. He could back off, apologize and stay at the rank he’s at, or he could attempt to kill me and then he’d either:
Kill me and be reduced to a recruit, and shamed for killing a ‘defenseless human’, or
Have me force him into submission, because I won’t kill him if I didn’t have to. He’d still be stripped of rank to recruit because he physically challenged me.
I guess his pride couldn’t let me get away with the honor-killing goading I had done.
“You will die in the next two minutes, human!” and rushed at me.
Thankfully, I had calculated all the things Scorcher could do and calculated counters for them. And I had a win strategy too.
‘If I disable his wings, he will freak out and submit’ I muse. ‘I have to lead him into a false sense of winning, and then I’ll sock it to him’
He was barreling toward me at over an estimated 25 miles per hour, at a gallop. If I got hit directly, that would hurt.
I slid to the side at the last moment and let his right shoulder run into my left shoulder. I clutched at it pathetically after he turned around to face me.
“What, human? Am I too fast for you?” he said, taunting me.
“Oh that depends. . .” I grin like trollface.
“On what, human?” he growled spitefully. I let go of my shoulder and let out a few big laughs.
“It depends on if I am faking or not” I taunt, laughing heartily.
“Jackson, what are you doing!?” It was Rainbow, obviously concerned for my safety.
“Don’t worry, Rainbow, I have plans. Do not interrupt this fight” I ordered her fiercely.
Rainbow stood there for a second, mouth agape, apparently surprised my tone, and then she decided to just watch. I could tell it took all her strength to not stop the fight I was having.
“Ok Scorcher, time to take you down a notch” I taunt him again.
I edged closer to the cloud’s edge. I needed him to charge me when I was at the edge, and not near it. He rushed again. I
slipped a bit on the edge of the cloud, not expecting it to go soft so soon.
I heard a collective gasp from the surrounding ponies. Scorcher barreled into me, a little right of a perfect center hit. It hurt a
lot less than I had expected.
Everyone thought it was over, but they didn’t expect what I did next, and neither did Scorcher.
As he barreled into me, I looped my hands around his neck, used his momentum to swing myself around his neck, and landed on his back. I promptly slid back and clamped down on his wings with my arms and legs, imagined myself falling like a 200-plus pound boulder, preventing his flight off the soft cloud edge, making us fall.
“You see the ground down there, Scorcher? You have two choices:
Die the honor-less death of a Pegasus falling to his death, or
Regain your honor by submitting to me and crawling back up the ranks of the Lightning Wings.
Don’t worry, we have about fifteen seconds. No rush.” I explained nonchalantly. “And if you submit to me, yell it to the heavens.”
He contemplated for about eight seconds. The ground was getting too close for comfort now.
“I SUBMIT!!” He yelled as loud as his lungs could allow. I was satisfied. I let go of his wings, imagined getting lighter, and slid forward off of the wing joints. He flared his wings, and just in time too. His hooves were less than a foot from the treetops when we leveled off.
Scorcher turned and headed back up to Cloudsdale. On the way back up, he talked with me.
“Thank you, Jackson. You have helped me to notice that I have been hurting the people I should have been helping. So I
give you my thanks for that.”
“No problem. I just want to have a better chance than the other humans who have come here.” I say
“You are much more popular now so you got a better chance now than any other human.”
“I guess . . . we’re friends now?” I ask nervously.
“Don’t push it, Jackson.” He says darkly. “. . . Nah, just kidding. Yeah, we can be friends” he says with a chuckle. I smile and laugh, albeit a little nervously.
By the time we land and I hit the cloud-ground, Rainbow barrels into me and knocks me onto my back. She traps my legs and hands under her hooves. I can see tear-streaks on her face. She was obviously crying.
“What was going through your mind when you challenged Scorcher?” her voice broke.
“I don’t like it when anypony is a dick to me, especially ones who think they are better than anypony else. I felt a moral duty to correct him. He will be better than before he was corrupted by pride” Thankfully he had dragged his hooves far enough away from us to not be able to hear what I had been saying. He was probably going to apologize to Lord Icewing, and beg for forgiveness.
“What kind of stupid logic is that?”
“My logic” I reply with a weak chuckles.
She was stressed out but she still managed to chuckle. She wiped her eyes with a hoof. I leant up and kissed her.
She didn’t expect it so she sat there for a second, stunned. After that second, she started to respond to the kiss. It was better than the last kiss we had.
It probably has something to do with the first kiss. We didn’t understand each other’s mouths then. This kiss was better understood than that kiss because we understood how to kiss the other’s mouth better.
I heard a few wolf-whistles and whoops. I ignored them. The kiss quickly got more passionate.
Someone cleared their throat. Rainbow and I broke our kiss and followed the sound with our eyes. It was Lord Icewing.
“I have not come to Cloudsdale for nothing. I am officially organizing the next great competition of the Pegasi.” Lord Icewing stated, and then he opened his wings. “Oh and Jackson,” he directed at me. “Come and visit me sometime in the Training Center. I look forward to your company. Jackson can ride on any Pegasus willing to carry him, yada yada yada. You all get the idea.” He announced tiredly and flew off to what I could only guess was the Training Center.
“we gotta get to your house, now!” I shot to Rainbow after Lord Icewing and the Lightning Wings had disappeared from sight.
“Definitely” she replied. I jumped on her back and we were off to her house. Within no time, we got to her house and were inside. I literally sprinted to the bedroom, with Rainbow hot on my heels.
