Ch.1:The Willows, The Wisp, and The Witch

Travel to Equestria - Chapter 1: The Willows, The Wisp, and The Witch
Blanketing the land in it's rays of soft white light, the moon began it's course across the sky. Eager to finish it's never ending race from the East to the West. That in time it would one night reach it's destination, or to find out it's whole life was nothing but an infinite paradox.
There was a small yet noticeable shift in the breezes combing through hairs and scales. The plain where rested a man and a sapphire blue dragon was very deserted and quiet due to the loud ferocious beast's breathing. Although Eragon has grown accustom to Saphira's rambunctious snoring. He still can not transition his conscience mind to his subconsciousness in some nights. Only in times when Saphira is not around. But he would rather not sleep for months then be separated from the creature that protected him, cared for him, and most importantly, fought through many battles with him. Their bond was impenetrable, and unbreakable. Like having their very souls melded together into one beautiful sculpture that kept them from losing hope, no matter where or what they go through. They would die for each other.
But as the moon continued its race across sky, Eragon did nothing but stare at the white dot, peeked in the sky with it's brethren of stars. "The land is round" is what the same thought orbited its way around Eragons mind. "If what Glaedr said was true, I wonder what other creatures lie beyond me and Saphira.". He let his mind create ideas of types of creatures that might be beyond. Perhaps like the Lethrblak. Only maybe with two heads, or one that can breath poison, or maybe even some that set there own body on fire. His mind just kept manifesting thoughts and ideas of dragons that live out there.
He let out a long, deep sigh and yawned refreshing his mind with a fresh dose of air to keep it awake. He laid face up with his arms criss-crossed behind his head as an improvised pillow. Saphira was curled up closely next to him, with her body keeping him warm from the fire in her blue belly. There was no need for a fire tonight. Even as it is, the night was still warm.
It's been over a year since he left Alagaësia. Traveling the land in search for either civilization or new things to be documented into his private journal he brought with him to his journey. He ran into very odd things through his journey.
He ran into an organism that was an animal, yet a plant as well. When his mind brushed it, he found that it did not need to eat but instead use the sun's rays to feed itself. It was small like a lizard, slick shiny with a distinctive smell of frog feces. He guessed it was amphibious, and poisonous due to it's bright body paint. It looked all most like a salamander but it's mind was very different to a Salamander's mind. Eragon documented as much as he can learn from the simple organism, all while Sapphira lumbered around in search for the camping spot they are currently residing.
To Eragon's amazement, while staring at the night sky, he spotted a small bolt of light, zip past his vision leaving a white streak of light in it's wake.
He knew about the lore about those light's in the sky. His uncle Garrow all ways told him that the light's that fly through the night sky are the arrow's of Angels shooting the evil demon's that try to touch the land and wreck havoc to the harmony in Alagaësia. He also learned about more myth's in the old scrolls he read in Du Weldenvarden that if you quickly wish for something in your mind and never breath a word of it. It will come to be true.
He quickly thought of the wish right before the white streak faded away. "I wish that me and Saphira can find a land with pure peace and no discord whatsoever. A place where there's no civil wars against race, or clans. A place where you can walk the land and cities knowing you won't get back stabbed, robbed, or have to worry about an army of creatures and magicians looming over you, your home, and your family." Eragon closed his eye's and focused into that one streak in the sky. Praying that one day, him and Sapphira can find that land and live to their fullest.
After a while more of star gazing, Eragon closed his eyes, and drifted to slumber until a whisper in the forest caught his ears attention. He arose from his slumber and looked into the forest beyond him. He saw nothing, yet his ears kept hearing the soft ghostly whispers. "Sapphira...Saphira wake up." Saphira grumbled and growled low and then spoke with her mind. "Yes, little one?" She said while yawning and then letting out a snort with a small jet of flame escaping her nostrils. He pointed towards the forest where the ethereal sounds were coming from. Saphira examined the forest with her sapphire eyes and her ears were twitching and moving, in an attempt to identify the strange alien sound.
"It is probably some avian creature trying to get some attention for a mate Eragon. Relax and go back to sleep, we must rest for tomorrow. We might not know whats ahead of us" Eragon looked at Sapphira for a while then gave his attention back to the forest ahead. His mind kept itching. "I don't know, I get this hunch thinking about whats in there." and it was more then a hunch that rose in Eragon, he worried. Thoughts came to him that there might be in front of a nest or home of a dangerous mysterious creature waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Eragon has been on the edge ever since leaving Alagaësia. After seeing a fish the size of Saphira almost swallow her whole. He just can't lower his guard and must stay alert and expect the dangerous unexpected. He's mistaken many creatures that were quite small. Only to be very vicious and aggressive. A few days back, he came across a large arachnid, squandering in some bananas he found and kept with him in his satchel. It had the presence of a dark linear stripes on the frontal (dorsal) palps and presence of a single thin black line running anterior-posterior along the dorsal carapace, strong ventral marking on the underside of the legs with contrasting dark mid-segments, and it's abdomen was covered with several rows of black dots. He open his mind to it and spoke to it "kvetha, eka wilae neo haina varda." As he said his greetings to the spider and approached it with his hand to examine it, and document it. It lashed out at Eragon and rose its four front legs in an odd stance. Before Eragon could even flinch it ran up to him and bit him. In instinct, Saphira spit a blot of blue liquid fire at the spider. In an instant the spider disintegrated into a small black ball of it's former self.
Eragon curled his arm into a ball hugging it, trying to suppress the pain with no luck. As quickly as he can, he spoke his healing spell "Waíse heill!" In a flash of white light his bite was forever erased as if it had never existed. While healing he glanced at the spider's remains. "Why did it do that? I told it I meant no harm? Odd thing too, usually animals attack only to defend or when desperate for food. This one attacked me on offense, and I caught a glimpse of it's mind."
He looked at the spot where he got bit and wondered, pondering why the spider found him as an enemy.
A gust of wind blew hard at them. As if telling them to keep going and let this episode be at the past. "Lets go Saphira, we're burning day light and we have to find a clearing to camp before the fearsome critters emerge from their dens. Not that I fear them but I would rather not come across something like this tonight." With a snort, Saphira turned towards the winds direction and they were back on their journey road.
But as Eragon listened closely at the sound he could not identify. "Hmm... a shadow raven perhaps?" "Nay little one, they sound like it but I doubt it. Last time we encountered those rats with wings they spoke nothing but the sound of their pecking on my head!" "Aye..." He stared and stared until. "We should go and see what it is?" Saphira let out an unsure hum "All right, but stay close to me. Heavens know whats in there." They both arose from their slumber and strode over to the sound with caution. Eragon gripped the pommel of Brisinger at the ready to strike at anything that attempts to harm them with his blade of inferno. He heard the whisper once more and then when he started at the sound that came behind a willow tree in the forest he looked behind the tree and found the source. A small blue fiery light holding it's self in the air. It swayed up and down as if watching him. Eragon let out a small gasp and realized what this creature was.
"Its Will-0'-the-Wisp..." Eragon whispered.
Eragon was amazed of his find, he has never found a Will-0-wisp before. He has seen pictures and read about them on the scrolls his master lend to him. They where just how they where described. Small, about the size of a dragons Heart of hearts. was like a blue fiery ghost and it makes a whispering noise. In the lore, It resembles a flickering lamp and is said to recede if approached, drawing travelers from their safe paths.
But this one did not. In fact it was as if calling out for Eragon to follow it. "kvetha vinr." He said with a grin on his face. "tauthr" the wisp whispered and began to slowly float away. To Sapphira and Eragon's surprise, it spoke. Telling them to follow it, but to where Eragon pondered. "Should we follow it?" Asked Eragon. "I don't know, for all we know it could be leading us to a trap." "I don't think so, in none of the scrolls it said that these wisps were capable of killing a man. Never was there a record of deaths from these, nor missings." "I don't think we should" They both glanced back at the wisp, patiently waiting for them to follow. "Think about it, would a wisp really think it can take on a dragon and a magician like me. If it does attack, we can take it. I mean we fought a king and armies, I think we can take on this small little flame." Saphira worried but nodded in agreement and both set of to follow the wisp.
After about a few minutes of walking through the dark, dense forest. They came upon an orchard of Willows. All densely packed, surrounding a fairly large cottage. The cottage was hollowed out of a tree, a Willow tree to be precise. It's bark was a very dark muddy color, surrounding the cottage were several trinkets like a few odd looking masks and a few bottle tethered on some of the willows slouching branches. The sight of the cottage made him think that an elf must be living inside. Only an elf can sing a tree into forming into a home such as this. It was then when the cottage came into to view that the wisp disappeared and left Eragon confused. "Umm... I guess we should go and greet ourselves" Eragon said with a confused look. They approached the house, taking in there surroundings. Once they came up to the door, Eragon realized something. "Wait!" Eragon said in a hushed tone. Saphira halted. "You should probably wait outside the orchard. The people in here might panic at the sight of a dragon near their small home" "What? don't be absurd. I saw what you thought and I agree. There must be an elf inside nothing can make a home like this." But Saphira gave it a thought and decided to just do, for safe measurements. "All right then, call if you need me" With a huff "Heh, I doubt it. I still wonder why the wisp led us here?" Eragon took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
After a short while of waiting, the door opened revealing a dark elf. The elf was about to the waist of Eragon and it's skin was very dark, brown almost. She had dark grey hair that reached to her waist. Her eyes were pure white which indicated to Eragon that she must be blind. She carried with her a bronze staff that curled at the tip top with a few yellow beads and a red, fiery feather tied to it. She wore a simple brown tunic that was old and a bit tattered. "Yes? May I help you traveler?" Her voice very old and ancient, all most, held an elderly yet strong authority. "Umm, yes hello. Let me introduce my self. My name is Eragon, son of Brom." A second past waiting for a reply. "and what about your other friend there?" She pointed into the darkness behind Eragon with his staff. "Oh! that is my dragon. Her name is Sapphira." "Ahh. A dragon rider I presume." "Yes" "I see my wisp led you here to my home" She pointed to the blue wisp floating next to Eragon's foot. "Yes, it did." Eragon took a moment and tried not to sound rude. "Did you tell it to lead me here-err" With a surprise the women elf exclaimed. "Ahh, please come in, come in and I'll introduce my self." She moved aside for Eragon to come inside her home.
Inside was surprisingly organized with many things such as, masks like the ones outside, several glass bottles of different colored liquids, many plants Eragon could recognize but a few which were very alien to him. A plant that stood out of the rest of them was a very large plant, in fact the largest in the room. It was shaped like a monstrous mouth with many sharp teeth and was all green with the inside of the mouth being crimson red. He also noted the small six fine hairs inside the mouth on the the crimson side. The plant was very intimidating to Eragon, he to note to ask the old women elf about it. The room was quite dark and steamy but not too humid. "Perhaps it must be the temperature these plants must be kept in..." Eragon mumbled as walking through the room and taking a seat on a chair next to a wooden table.
The elf women took a seat with the wisp floating close to her on the other side of the table. "Well, it's nice to meet a dragon rider. My name is Hecate. I am a dark elf." and it hit Eragon about a different race of elf. The dark elves, instead of worshiping nature, they worship the moon goddess Selene. They also specialize in the dark arts of magic and are able to control Mare's and Wisps. "Now perhaps I should answer your last question, the wisp led you here for a reason... What day is it?" The question caught Eragon off guard. "July the seventh I presume. umm Hecate." Hecate made a smile "Ahh, tonight Selene will grant wishes. On the full moon of Seven seven, today." Eragon was never interested in the moon, he only appreciated it's light that helps light their way in the dark forests the trek. "My wisp heard your wish and brought you here, Eragon. What did you wish for Eragon. Shade slayer" When Hecate said those last two words, her eyes flashed with a bright white light. Eragon hesitated. "Ahh, no worries. You mustn't breath a word, right? Don't worry, I all ready know, and I can grant it." "What? How?" Eragon spoke with a confused look in his eye's. Hecate let out a small laugh. "I am a dark elf, I am also a witch, Eragon. I could grant you your wish. All I need is your permission." Eragon called out for Sapphira. "Can you give me a moment?" "Of course Eragon".
Eragon walked outside into the moonlit night and contacted Saphira through their telepathy connection. "Saphira?' "Yes little one, is something wrong." "She's a dark elf, and she offered me something." "What is it?" Eragon took a moment "She said she will grant me one wish." "and what is it you wished for?" Eragon thought of what to say and how to say it. "I want us to find peace and harmony. Saphira we've been traveling for a long time and we have been through a lot. I think we should take it." "I don't know Eragon, it does not sound right." saphira gave it a thought and might as well, she was waiting for an adventure anyway." Okay Eragon, take it."
With that Eragon nodded and returned with the witch. "Have you made a decision Shade Slayer?" Eragon took a seat and responded. "I have...and I'll take it." The old elf smiled and got up from her seat. "All right, first let me get the ingredients. Lets see..." She went through many things in her wardrobe: bones, glasses filled with powder, liquids, and plants. She then took out a small cauldron, about the size of a bowl and set it on the table they where sitting earlier "First we need a pinch of the Sands of Time " She pulled out a brown old jar wrapped in paper. She opened it and pinched some of the ancient sand and threw it in a small cauldron. "Now I need the feather of a phoenix. Ahh here is one!" She plucked the red feather from the tip of her staff and placed it in the cauldron."I need a few drops of your blood sweetie. and of your dragon as well, this is for you." Eragon looked at Hecate surprised. "All right then" Eragon took out Brisinger and placed the middle of the blade onto his palm and tugged it across, spilling blood while holding it over the cauldron. It was painful but he has endured through worse. "Excuse me while I go take blood from my dragon" Eragon said with a huff, excusing himself to go retrieve the blood of Saphira.
He stepped outside in searched for Sapphira. "Sapphira? Can you come out?" "Of course, one moment..." With a rustle of a few bushes and willows, Sapphira came into sight in the dark forest. Eragon tried to find a way on how to say this. While scratching the back of his neck in an uneasy fashion he told Sapphira. "We need some of your blood for the wish." With a snort of surprisement. Sapphira was caught off guard with the question. "What?! Why on earth would she need my blood for?" "Because it's needed in the spell and we need a piece of you in order to have the wish be granted over you." With a deep sigh Sapphira held out her forearm. "Fine, but make it quick." "Oh don't be such a hatchling, you act as if you've never been injured your entire life. Mind I remind you we have been through far worse than this." Saphira rolled her eye's. "It's not that Eragon, it's just very odd for me to let someone hurt me on purpose. Make's me feel vulnerable..." Feeling a bit ashamed and guilty, Eragon tried to reassure her. "Please Saphira, Don't make it sound like that, I feel bad thinking about me hurting you. I'll heal you as soon as I'm done." He pulled out Brisinger and placed it on Saphira's arm and began slicing through her flesh, releasing her crimson blood spilling on a small bottle Eragon brought with him to carry her blood. Once the blood reached the peek of the bottle, he placed a stopper over it and placed it in his pocket and healed Saphira. "See that wasn't too bad eh?" Saphira dropped her arm back down. "Okay now what?" "Well? I'll go back and find out." and with that Eragon returned into the elf's home. Knocking first he waited for the elf to open the door. The door opened and Cherubim let Eragon inside to finish the spell they are working on.
Walking towards the table, Eragon holds the vial over to Hecate. "Here. Was not as easy as it was to get." Eragon gave Hecate the vial. She then held it in the light of the flames. "Ahh, Dragon's blood! You know in some lore, if you splash Dragon's blood in your eye's. You will have the vision of a dragon and would be able to focus on objects hundreds of miles away, farther then the eye can see. But that is something I will conduct in another time. Shall we?" She motioned Eragon towards the cauldron.
Hecate poped the cork off the bottle and splashed Sapphira's blood over the potion/spell. "One last ingredient and we can begin the spell. The feather of an Alicorn!" Eragon looked back at Hecate with a questioning look. "Uhh... What is an Alicorn? I never heard of it" Hecate looked at Eragon with a surprised look. Hecate expected Eragon to know. He is a Dragon Rider and for one should know many things, including this celestial being. "Eragon? Do you know what a Unicorn is?" "Yes, an equine with a magical horn on the top of it's head." Hecate let out a giggle."What?" "Oh nothing, it's just the way you described it. Now, what about a Pegasus?" Now Eragon did not know what she was talking about. "No, Hecate , I don't." "I will explain, it is simply a majestic horse with wings, no horn. Now an Alicorn is a Unicorn, and a Pegasus Combined into one. Becoming a very powerful celestial being. They are said to be ridden by Angels" Eragon gave Hecate a confused look then. "So where are you going to get the feather?" Hecate gave Eragon a reassuring look.
"Oh don't worry dear I have one here." Eragon gave a confused grin "And you happen to be carring one with you? Where on earth did you get one?" Hecate answered. "By Selen of course, these celestial beings, these Alicorns. Can not be found here in the world, only in this beautiful land where harmony is the key. You see Eragon, Selen guides me and provides me with the necessities I need. For I too serve her and in return she helps me live my life. Even with this terrible disability I have." She pulls out a nightly shaded blue feather from a neckless that was hidden under her garments around her neck and tore it off the chain swiftly and places it in the cauldron. She grabbes a small club and begins to mush all of the ingredients into one product. After a few minutes of crushing and mushing, she stops and examines the outcome.
A black blue liquid that sparkled a bit, but that must have been from the ancient sand and the two majestic feathers. She looks at it with a disapproving blind eye and moves her nose near it and waffes it's scent toward her, sniffing it. She gets a twinkle in here eye and realizes. "Oh my, I forgot to invoke this to Luna" "Who's Luna?" Hecate simply ignores Eragon and continues to mush again. She then clears her throat and begins to speak in a tongue that Eragon is not familiar with. "Luna, ego envoke nomen tuum. Placere mihi tribuat potentiis fullfil hominis istius optare hac nocte, tuam divinam donum ad subvenien huius hominis et eius draco invenire piece. Sequatur vestigia tua, et vivere inter vos in Equestria!" While she spoke, Hecate's eye's and the cauldron began to glow white hot , as if in sync. Then as soon as she spoke the last word they both reached their peak and suffused into it's normal stable state. Eragon looked at the women shocked, he has never seen such a spell. Hecate became a bit disoriented at the end, and almost tripped, but Eragon grabbed a hold of her and kept her balance. She shakes her head off a bit and grabbes her Staff that lay resting on the table. She props herself with her staff and reassures to Eragon that she is fine. And apparently, she's done this, A thousand times. But Eragon can tell she does not do this in a regular basis. "Well then, we should be heading out now. This full moon won't last forever. We must go and create a portal, quickly." She rushed Eragon out and gives him the cauldron. That was now glowing and sparkling like liquid night skies. Hecate returns back inside to retrieve her staff. "I wish this night really last forever." She grumbled to herself.
After a while of trudging through dark dense forest life and worrying of Hecate tripping on a branch, which she assured them that her wisp leads her everywhere. It was her friend and guider. She said it was a gift from Luna as well.
They finally made it to a fairly large creek where the full moon's reflection is perfectly still in the middle of the whole creek. The wisp's light reveals a boat that was hidden under a log. Hecate instructs Eragon to move it into the lake and to row toward the moons reflection. With Saphira swimming closely behind them as they row, Hecate hums a tone very gentle that seems to make the moon shine even brighter. They finally make it and Hecate tells Eragon to stop near the moon. Not on it. "Well Eragon, time to get wet. Hop onto your dragon lady and, swim towards the moon." Eragon did as told and jumped off the boat and into the water. His mind and body went into immediate shock, the frigid water was icy cold to the core. He quickly swam towards Saphira and began to climb onto her scaly blue back and once on he drys himself with a quick spell that levitates every drop of creek water of his body and dumps it back in. Hecate then flings the potion into the moon's reflection in the water and with that. The moons reflection begins to glow bright blue. Saphira looks in awe while she swims toward it with Eragon on her back.
"Eragon! Good luck and may the stars watch over you!" Eragon looks back. "Thank you, Hecate!" He casts a spell to keep his belonging's from getting ruined in the water. Once in the middle, Hecate begins to speak in the mysterious Language she spoke earlier. "Luna regnum tuum portas aperire hunc unum excipio te!"
The water around both of them began to swirl and swirl. Growing ever so faster and faster. "Swim to the bottom Eragon! She will guide you!" Eragon tries his best to remain calm and does as told. "Eragon! Take hold of my spike and don't let go!" Saphira yells with her mind. Eragon does what she asked and hold on tight to her blue spike. Saphira takes a deep breath and dives into the lake. With the sound of the water being hushed after diving into the water, Eragon hears something. He looks down towards the bottom and sees... the surfaces? Eragon looks back up and sees the surfaces gone. Did they go upside down? "Sapphira, swim down." Saphira looks down and become's confused ass well but begins to swim towards the bottom surface. Trying to focus on a spell, Eragon helps by propelling him and Sapphira faster Towards the bottom, they then breach the surface of the bottom.
Taking in a deep breath, he climbs out of the large creek they are in and lays down on the wet moss floor exhausted from the small spell he used but all so for some reason. He felt as if his soul had been leeched from it's energy. Saphira climbs out and shakes some of the water off as well. But falls limp as well. Eragon gets up and takes in his surrounding's: A dense forest, very similar to the one they were in. "Where are we" Saphira spoke out loud. She quickly cupped her mouth as if she cursed in the presence of an elderly women. Eragon looked at Sapphira with a very surprised look. "Saphira! Did you just speak?"
