Chapter Two “Silly”

The item in Twilight’s hoof was light, fragile, and precious. The feelings that arose within the princess when she held it close was an odd combination; born of love and fear. Twilight could barely contain her glee, even during such a late hour. Her hoof lightly caressed the smooth, golden surface of the locket many times throughout the night, and the mare sighed blissfully each time, feeling the warmth Peter poured into it. Twilight brought the jewel over her mouth, kissing it before holding it against her beating heart.

She peeked from the corner of her eye and smiled at her bedmate, Peter snoring in an oblivious slumber. He was always thinking about her. The locket was a memento of their time on Earth. Twilight tucked the necklace under her nightgown, shivering involuntarily as the cold surface brushed against her fur. It would be careless if she harmed the jewel, as it was a symbol of their love. If she damaged it, that meant she would do the same to her relationship with Peter. Twilight frowned, clutching at the locket, and Peter turned, his lips curling into a sleepy smile.    Twilight’s cheeks burned. It was as if Peter knew what she was thinking, even as he slept. The princess returned to her previous position under the bedsheets and wrapped her slim hooves around the stallion’s waist, snuggling into his side. It was silly to think such a thing. Their love was deep, forged by their hearts, not by a golden, material possession. Twilight’s eyes softened as she pulled the locket from underneath her gown and gazed at its design. It was still beautiful, but the princess giggled, knowing how silly she was being.    It was a learning process, something Twilight had been experiencing since she first met Peter. The alicorn freed her gaze from the locket, directing it to the ceiling. Love was convoluted, yes, but Twilight knew who she wanted. It was Peter and only him, but there were others who felt the same way. During their adventures on Earth, there were developments. Starting with Princess Luna, The Web of Life, and those involved, it all came to light. Twilight furrowed her brow as her hoof tapped against her chest. Most of her friends and several acquaintances, not to mention a certain feline equine, were all in love with the same stallion.    Twilight closed her eyes, taking a moment to level her breathing. It was so much to take in at once. All of her friends kept their feelings a secret. They wanted to preserve their friendship with Twilight, willing to never act on their emotions. Twilight shook her head. She remembered the days when her feelings for Peter began to grow. It was agonizing, like a knife tearing through fabric, and the weight on her shoulder was so much to bear, only dissipating after she confessed her love. Twilight was possessive. Even now, Peter was hers, but she managed to understand her friends’ plight.    It took time, but Princess Celestia talked with Twilight about forming a herd. The decision was her own and Peter’s. A herd could consist of many members, but the choices would revolve around those that are trustworthy. Twilight opened her eyes. Peter was hesitant about the decision, solely due to the fact that his culture never exercised a herd ideology, but he was open-minded, declaring that if Twilight was comfortable with sharing, then he would be as well. Admittedly, his Aunt May was the only pony against the idea, but she eventually warmed up to the herd, being as supportive as possible.    Twilight nodded before planting a kiss on the cheek of her sleeping lover. After the members were chosen, adjustments had to have been made. So far, things were progressing rather well. Princess Celestia had a home made in the Whitetail Woods for the Parker herd, everypony staying there as well as keeping their old homes. A home away from home, one might say. It was a learning experience for everypony, seeing as this was now the largest herd in Equestrian history with eleven mares and one stallion.    Such a situation would have been stressful, but Peter was once again the cause of her change in behavior. It was silly, endearing, and yet Twilight didn’t mind. As long as she was Peter’s partner, she would make sure nopony close would harm him. After all, Twilight liked silly, and Peter was the epitome of it.
