The Alicorn Book

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

It was a stormy night in Ponyville because the weather team missed two drizzle days and only had one day to make up for it. It was much like the time Twilight had her first sleepover with Rarity and Applejack. Twilight was reading a book in her room when Spike came in with a cardboard box.
“Twilight the new books came in. I bet you’re excited.”
Twilight looked at the clock to check the time. The clock read 10:19. She stretched a little, and let out a small yawn.
“It’s a bit early. I’ll read them before placing them on shelf.”
“Fine”
Spike said as he was ready to shelf them away. He looked at one book in particular that caught his interest.
“What’s this?”
Spike picked it up. It was a white book with the silhouette of an alicorn. Twilight looked at the book and read the title out loud.
“Alicorn Mysteries… I don’t remember ordering this book” Twilight said confused.
Twilight used her magic to pick up the book then opened it and began reading.
“We consider alicorns as gods, but who said so? Why do they rule us? An Alicorn is in fact stronger than anypony, but are they better?”
Twilight kept reading. The book had information starting from the theory of how Alicorns were born, and then contained information and opinions on Nightmare Moon basing it to be an example of an Alicorn’s power. The book also had some scientific research information on a project called The Alicorn Project, although it didn’t show much detail. Twilight just kept reading, but didn’t react much until she got to the next section of the book.
“Why is Princess Luna here? Ever since she returned from the moon, Equestria has been in danger far too many times. Is she the cause?”
Twilight couldn’t believe what she was reading. As frustrated as she was, she just kept on going.
“Is there a need for Princess Celestia? Celestia is the ruler of Equestria, but why? Just because she can raise the sun? What’s the use for a ruler who can’t even defend her subjects? Out of the few times Equestria was threatened she relied on others to do the job she couldn’t. She relies on the Elements of Harmony to do her work. Do we really need a ruler like that?”
At this point Twilight burst.
“HOW DARE YOU. YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PRINCESS CELESTIA! SHE IS THE BEST RULER AND MENTOR IN ALL OF EQUESTRIA!”
Twilight raged at the book and nearly threw it out the window.
Spike woke up suddenly from the screaming.
“What’s going on Twilight? Why are you screaming?”
Twilight took a deep breath and started to calm down.
“Sorry Spike, I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“What happened?”
Spike was concerned not knowing what was going on.
“I just can’t believe how misinformed some ponies can be.”
Spike sat up from his bed.
“It’s ok Twilight, not everyone is going to have the same opinions as you.”
“I know Spike it’s just that.”
Twilight stopped and thought for a moment.
“I want to know who this pony is. I want to know who has the nerve to write a story like this.”
She looked for the author but to her surprise there was no author. Nowhere in the book did it say who wrote the book.
“Figures”, Twilight said grunting.
“You talk bad about somepony but you don’t want anypony to know who you are.”
Twilight got up and went to go throw the book away but just couldn’t bring herself to doing it. A book is still a book and she couldn’t throw it away. Besides she had to admit it was very well written, she just didn’t like the subject. Throwing a book away would feel like a crime… no, a sin.
“I’ll go put this away somewhere else” she said as she walked towards a drawer.
Spike then burped and a letter from Princess Celestia came out. Spike picked it up and read it.
“Dear Twilight, I need you and your friends to come over to Canterlot tomorrow. I have a very special task for you. I need you to come as early as you can. We hope to see you soon. Celestia”
Twilight began talking about what she just heard.
“We? What does she mean by that?” Twilight asked a little confused.
“Maybe she has guests”
Spike answered with doubt.
“Also, what do you think she wants with all of us?”
“To entertain her guests”
Spike again answered with doubt.
Twilight looked outside to see that the rain has stopped. Then she turned to check the time. It was past midnight. Twilight yawned for about five seconds.
“Better get some sleep; I have to leave early tomorrow. Goodnight Spike.”
“Goodnight Twilight”
Spike replied as he tucked himself back to sleep.
“I wonder”
Twilight thought to herself
“What are the mysteries of an Alicorn?”
