Long ago, before the reign of the princesses, ponykind was divided. Most of this history is known and told in the Hearth's Warming Eve stories, but they are not completely accurate. The three races of ponies certainly had the most animosity between them, but even among themselves there was conflict. Far, far north of modern Equestria there was a particular faction. they were unique, in that they had unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies, as well as being in good standing with the sea ponies. They were considered brutish by outsiders, but they were just about on par with the rest of the world. They fought with skill and valour, for survival. They learned to thrive in the icy conditions that the windigos brought. They took what gear they needed from the pegasi, they took extra luxuries from the unicorns, and they took what food they could not grow from the earth ponies. They were known for their size and strength, their ingenuity and teamwork, as well as their finer skills as craftsmen.

Their language, and legacy, are now far within the deepest archives of ponykind. Even there, only in sparse existence. They mostly integrated with the others once they learned of Equestria's existence, and they have not been heard of since.
