Chapter 1- Dinner with friends

I galloped towards the gates, My high step and fast speed leaving individual hoofprints in the snow rather then a huge trail which every other pony left. Oh why did the entrance to canterlot castle have to be at the end of this great long bridge! A couple gave me the strangest looks as I bolted past, but returned to nuzzling each others necks under a gently glowing lamp. I told myself to stop wondering one what they were thinking; and eventually returned my attention to the papers I was holding in my horns magic, only I would forget saddlebags in my rush to get out of the house, also I was pondering over why my brother shouted out of the window for me.

I moved to the right of some tracks left by other ponies, which had long since frozen over to create a small ice-rink and I instantly learned why ponies had taken the left path - as I went straight into a snowdrift which came up over my nose. Naturally I panicked and opened my wings, Throwing heaps of snow everywhere, and yes wings. I'm a Alicorn, thanks to my family having a used-to-be-scrict rule that the father must be a unicorn and the mother a pegasus, and strangely enough the outcome would always be a earth pony. That was decades, closing on a century ago now. Its also why so many lines of the Phoenix family have disappeared, now it's just me, my brother and my split mother and father. Most doctors told my mother it had just been good luck in the genetic side of things when my brother was born- and the same for me. Now I'm nowhere near as close to even hope to compete with somepony Princess Twilight in skill and power, my flying skills were well above average for a pony, but my magic was little more then telekinesis , a simple teleportation spell and 4 medium level spells; which were learnt for a magic degree in school.

The papers, at the moment I didn't realize, I had been holding had been thrown off the side of bridge in my panic. After a bit of  scrambling and cursing I emerged from the drift, and fell on my face from more ice. I pulled myself up, quite aggravated now and grumbling. I began looking around for the deep blue paperweight I'd attached to the papers to keep them together. My eyes fell on a small group of foals, 1 mare and 2 colts. I gave them the most horrendous glare I could muster, which silenced their giggling and they stood shock still, wide- eyed as they looked up at me. It dawned on me, a blue paperweight would stand out like a sore hoof in snow,It could of only gone over the edge. Into the waterfall that fell over a cliff in the mountain, which lead to a river and the quieter, village like part of canterlot. Taking to the air, I flew over the edge and down, Surely enough the papers and paperweight were falling down to the water. I was a tad nervous on if my right wing would hold out,a recent event meaning I'd torn a couple of ligaments and cracked a bone.

"Thanks random tree" I mumbled to myself

I was quite honestly relived when the doctor had told me I'd be fine eventually. I cringed as it clicked and I felt something shift. A few meters away from the water I finally managed to grab the paper in my teeth, and instantly wished I wasn't so tired and stressed out that I couldn't preform magic and concentrate on flying at the same time. I pulled up over the water, my tired muscles complaining and aching, if I had gotten proper rest and had less work, this would be easy for me,even relaxing ; as I often flew to calm myself. A small stab of pain from my right wing indicated it probably wasn't going to be able to take the strain of flying back up. I really hoped I wouldn't have to gallop back up again. I looked at it out of the corner of my eye, it seemed fine in the fact it was moving how it should be; but the pain said otherwise. I didn't waste time dwindling on it, I soon banked and was turning to go back up to the bridge. I was panting by the time I got there, stabs of pain coming from my wing. The foals had moved to look over the edge, and backed up as I flew up and over the railings. I quickly checked over the paper,They all seemed fine,a bit crumpled and wet,and with some of my spit on it. I looked down at the fillies.

"I'm the lawyer for their majesty's Princess Luna and Princess Celestia. I can,and will tell you that you should break the ice you may or may not have created, and rid the snowdrift,as somepony could get hurt and they may well sue you and your parents." I told them. I kept up the serious face for a few seconds before breaking out into a smile and saying

"I'm only joking, keep it here,You have your fun. If you'll still here when I come back I may join you,I need a laugh. Perhaps make it more elaborate, make a path of ice so they slide?"

The foals scared faces broke out into smiles.

"But aren't you angry?" Asked the colt, moving to push more snow back into the snowdrift, ready for the next pony to run into.

"Annoyed yes. But not at you, Annoyed at myself that I didn't see the drift and was more careful with the paper. But angry,no." I replied, folding the paper with my magic. I turned to leave.

"Why aren't you grumpy like all other ponies working in the castle?" I turned again, one of the fillies,a unicorn, was looking at me,her blue eyes curious. I sighed.

" Well.. Maybe... I don't know to be honest, I guess I just take a more light-hearted approach to thing's then other lawyers,or it may be the week we get off work for hearts and hooves day has just ended. I didn't have much work for it." I smiled and ruffled the fillies hair.

" Have fun and be careful, And stand down the path a bit,Some ponies may not take to being tricked like this too nicely, stand back a bit and they won't assume it was you,and you'll still have a laugh. See you three around,ok?" The filly nodded and waved at me and I turned and began trotting away,I waved at them, the other two turning to wave at me also.

I was soon galloping again, the three foals lost in the small amount of snow that was falling. I kept on replaying it in my head, forcing myself to remember where it was, I told those foals I would come back, and being young, they would expect me to come back, and I would - even if it was for just 5 minutes. I forced my legs faster through the snow,Throwing it up with each step. The gates were near, I didn't have time to check my watch, but I assumed I didn't have much time left.
