Chapter 12

Eggs and Hot Air

Ghidorah awoke angrily, as usual. Ever since he had his powers stolen from him, he found that his body actually required sleep, something it didn't before. It was annoying, and not the only thing that had changed. A growl that would have intimidated Destroyah emanated from Ghidorah's stomach, demanding to be fed.

Great. He was hungry.

King Ghidorah rolled over, sliding off the large bed he had been given onto the floor. He groaned loudly. Stupid mornings. Stupid ponies. Stupid lack of powers. Stupid hunger. He groaned again, infruriated at his inability to do anything about it.

Suddenly, he felt the infernal itch in his head again. Of all times, now, in the morning, it had decided to show up? He hissed in displeasure, realizing that he wasn't completely incapable of changing the situation. He could always do what Celestia demanded, and be a protector of the innocent. In time, she'd give him back his powers, right?

Ghidorah suddenly stopped himself. Did he really just seriously consider that? What was wrong with him? Never would he, in his right mind, even give the thought notice! How could he have possibly have thought about it for as long as he did? And why did the itch abate when he did?

Ghidorah felt bothered again, but didn't have long to dwell on the matter, as the beast in his lower torso continued to loudly demand food. Boy, it sure was rude. Grumbling, Ghidorah got up off of the surprisingly comfortable floor, and made his way into the hallway.

As he walked through the halls, his nose picked up a scent. It was coming from the royal kitchen. It wasn't the usual vegetarian scent, either. Whatever it was, he liked it. Well, like was a strong word. But it was better than anything else, so he started lumbering his way towards the open door that lead to the kitchen.

He nudged the door open, revealing a mare dressed in chef's clothing cooking some sort of dish. She had a black mane and tail, and a cream coat. This was the mare Gourmet that Discord had apparently been messing with a few days prior. She was humming a song to herself as she cooked, completely oblivious to Ghidorah's presence.

He frowned. Unacceptable.

Ghidorah cleared his three throats, causing the mare to nearly have a heart attack. "Oh, King Ghidorah! I'm sorry, I didn't see you there!" she said hastily, fearing what Ghidorah might do. The dragon's three faces did not change. "Is there something I can help you with?"

King Ghidorah looked down at the food she was preparing in a pan. It was slimy in appearance, milk white with a yellow center. It looked disgusting as it sat there in the pan, sizzling in the heat. But he was hungry, as his growling beast confirmed. Beggars can't be choosers. It was better than vegetation. "This," he said. "What is it?"

Gourmet looked at the food in the pan, then back at Ghidorah. "It's eggs, your highness," she said simply. "We ponies usually eat plants, but occasionally we supplement our diets with eggs. Why?"

Ghidorah did not think twice. "Serve me some. Scratch that, serve me all of them,"

Gourmet was surprised by his request. "All of them?" she asked. "I'll see what I can do,"

"Very well," Ghidorah sat himself down at the end of a nearby table, and began to wait for his food.

"I hope you like it!" the mare chimed, pushing a plate of the fowl things in front of Ghidorah. The golden dragon looked down at the food. He sniffed it tentatively. Eating it was going to be awkward. He sighed. Oh well. Food was food. He began to noisily chow down on the eggs.

To his surprise, the eggs were quite good. Satisfying, even. As he slurped down the meal, he felt his hunger disappear. The itch in his head returned, but it felt less like an itch, and more like a dull stinging. "Well? What do you think?" Gourmet asked.

Ghidorah grumbled. "It is satisfactory," he said. Gourmet smiled. Apparently she knew enough about the dragon so that the phrase was more complimentary than it normally would have been.

"Thank you, I really do take pride in my cooking!"

Before Ghidorah could so much as make a sound, the mare began to go on a long-winded rant about her history with cooking. Ghidorah said nothing, not paying attention. He merely continued eating his eggs in silence, feeling his strength and energy return to him. He was surprised to find himself not completely annoyed by the lower pony. In fact, he almost felt....entertained. The very thought of that word made the stinging disappear for a moment.

Wait, what? First, his thought in the morning, now this? Ghidorah was beginning to get on his own nerves. Just before he could say something to shut the pony up, Luna walked in to the room.

"Ghidorah, we need you. We found one," she said.

Moments later, Ghidorah found himself on the balcony with both of the princesses, staring at the kaiju flying in circles overhead. It let out a loud roar, causing some of the citizens of Canterlot below to panic. Ghidorah merely huffed, recognizing the familiar face.

"Ghidorah, is this one of the heroic kaiju you mentioned?" Celestia asked.

Ghidorah nodded. "Unfortunately,"

That wasn't entirely true. This kaiju didn't really fight for the weak, but rather for their home. Close enough. Celestia need not know the details.

Celestia turned to Luna. "Then let's get this over with,"

Both of the alicorns' horns glowed, and the spell was cast. The beast above roared in shock as its powers were stolen from it. The kaiju began to shrink, and as it did so it flew down towards the source of its loss. The red-scaled beast landed with a thud in front of the pony princesses.

"Hey, what gives?"
