The Thirteenth legion was at the gate of Canterlot, waiting for what would be their finest hour. The Dovahkiin, seen the waiting impatience of his troops, had nothing more to say than this.
"Warriors, today we stand at the walls of Canterlot, the city that dares shelter the princesses, who mock our alleged "inferiority" even though it was our "inferiority that destroyed half of their army at Hammerfell, out "inferiority", that, with the help of our new allies, the dragons, we were able to break the barrier, and allow us passage into this damned land, and our "inferiority" that resulted in the complete and total destruction of what few remaining veterans they had left."
"Today is a day that will be talked about by you decendants, by your ancestors, by the Nine Divides themselves, and even the Daedra will see us as more than simple souls. Today, we are Tamriels finest, We are the Thirteenth legions, and we will END THIS WAR NOW!"
What was once a silent army was now hollering in approval, as even the dragons supporting his army were now yelling his name in their own tongue. Moments later, the gates defending Canterlot fell, a sign that the spies sent in were able to successfully complete their job.
just behind the gates were the Royal Guard, once one of the greatest forces on Equestria, was now a ramshackle division forced to levy green as grass recruits, half of which would run if given the chance to, especially if the Thirteenth legion was involved. They already knew what the outcome would be, and simply prayed that Celestia would be strong enough to save them.
Speaking of which, Celestia had truly failed to understand just why Tamriel was so willing to fight against her. She had offered them everything, safer homes, improved lifestyles, a chance to finally end all of its prejudice, but they had refused, and her sister had to pay the price at the hands of their "Dragonborn". The assistance he had been given from Odaviing had only increased her anger, as they were willing to let the barbaric creatures barely deserving of the name dragons murder her own people and then act as if it wasn't there fault.
This also incredibly soured the relations between Dragons of Equestria and Dovah's (as the Tamrielic ones called themselves in their own tounge.) bringing a brutal "Dragon war" sideshow that had killed hundreds of the creatures, or at least, it would have had it not been for the Dovah's ability to resurrect themselves, which was leading to a hopeless war for the dragons, even with pegasi assistance.
She had only two choices, continue fighting and result in the possible death of all her ponies, and hope the elements of harmony save them, or surrender, and more than likely be executed by The Empire, and her ponies under their rule. To her the choice was obvious, and she would quickly pursue it.
Spike watched from a distant hill as the gate fell in Canterlot. having abandoned the city due to his now conflicting beliefs on what to do. Was he supposed to help Celestia fight a hopeless war in which he was almost guaranteed to die, or help the Thirteenth legion, along with his new dovah friend, Lizkirrkendov, one of the few Dovah's willing to be friends with an Equestrian dragon, especially after the entire issue with the death of Princess Luna, though this friendship was obviously problematic after the war officially started, Spike still wondered about his Dovah friends whereabouts.
Just then, he quickly eyed a Dovah with a brutal scar near his right eye, brown scales that signified youth amongst Dovahs, all while carrying supplies and magically enchanted armor covering its undersides. It was Lizkirrkendov, and this only served to make Spike's decision even harder. In the end, he had chosen the simplest answer he could see and hurried to it.
The Mane six had been preparing. They knew full well that they were doomed if the Elements failed to fire, so they had all gathered, trying to focus.
"I just don't get it," uttered Twilight Sparkle "Why didn't they simply accept Celestia's rule?, We at least know we have a goddess, they have no proof of their so called Nine Divides."
"Those humans, elves, and those animal people and are just too stubborn to accept the truth" Applejack has stated. "I knew it was a bad idea to ever think we could trust them."
"Maybe we should have simply thrown a giant party for them?" said Pinkie Pie, in an attempt to add some humor to an otherwise grim situation. It was obvious it had failed though, as none of the other Elements payed any notice.
"Don't worry guys, we should be able to beat them, we have the Elements, what can they possibly do?" said Rainbow Dash, showing confidence, albeit somewhat frail confidence.
"Dash, we said the same thing about the barrier, what if this doesn't work?" asked Fluttershy, who unlike Rainbow Dash, made no secret about the fact that they were at there breaking point. This also proceeded to bring down what little bravado Dash what showing, making it obvious that even Dash had a feeling of hopelessness.
Rarity would have also made a comment, but due to her now missing vocal chords, was only able to see the rest of the Mane six fall into despair for the last few weeks.
"Girls, we need to concentrate, any second now Celestia will need us to use the Elements to defeat the Empire, and possibly save all ponykind. If we let the Thirteenth legion stop us, think of all the ponies that will die due to us not being able to use the Elements." These words uttered by Twilight had certainly helped them concentrate, and they would certainly need to, as the legion would not slow down its advance.
