It's the week before spring break, and the young colts and fillies at Sweetie Belle's school were learning about myths from previous cultures. She has been feeling funny ever since Hearts and Hooves day when she received an anonymous gift, but hasn't told her friends or even her family, which makes a certain myth from her class pique her interest.

It was the myth of the sailor's companion. A sailor would write a letter and put it in a bottle to receive a response the next day. In the process she makes a friend who tells her of another world, but at the same time has very similar troubles to her own.
