Twilight and her friends encounter a strange group of four creatures from a planet known as "Pop Star." The group, whose names are Kirby, Meta Knight, "King" Dedede, and Bandy Andy Dee, have lost their ship and are stuck on Equestria for the time being. Meta Knight seems oddly familiar with Equestrian lore...

Soon, other, less friendly creatures from their planet arrive, and the Bearers must team up with these unlikely allies (and keep the four of them from killing each other) and stop these new threats. Along the way, they learn startling secrets, not only about Pop Star, but of Equestria as well...
