Secrets of Harmony
Secrets of Harmony(Continued)
Previous ChapterFinally, schools over. I think to myself as I hear the final buzzer signaling the end of my last class.
Today had been one hell of a day. It kicked off with a test in math. The subject: Conics. It was terrible because I had no time to study the night before, and math is by far my least favorite subject. Next I went to English and History, which I’m decent in, so those two weren’t so bad. I had another test, this time in Spanish, which was ridiculously easy. I didn’t even have to study for that one.
Chemistry, the class I just finished, was pretty embarrassing. We were doing the classic vinegar and baking soda example. My friend Zale accidentally bumped into me while I was holding the vinegar in one hand. I spilled it all over the table, which the open bag of baking soda was lying on. Lets just say it caused quite a mess and a few snickers from my class mates. It was all good hearted, of course.
I'm friends with most everyone at school. I just seem to get along well with people. I got elected class president last year as a Sophomore without even running for it. I guess one could say that I'm one of the popular kids, but I don't usually look at myself that way. I don't try to make friends - like I said, it just comes naturally.
It's a good thing my dad has the day off today. I'm gonna need all the fricken help I can get for my math homework.
I'm not a super smart kid. Average at best. But I have a strong work ethic, courtesy of my dad. He always says to 'fully commit to everything that you do, and you will get far in life just from that.' I've learned that he was indeed correct, and I've gotten a mix of A's and B's for most of my high school classes.
My dad has both an impeccable work ethic as well as his smarts. He was the valedictorian of his high school class, and probably the best student in his school. He went to Harvard and got a masters degree in law. That was where he met my mother.
I never really knew her. All I know is that my dad was madly in love with her. If you don't believe in love at first sight, seeing these two together would change your mind. They were inseparable. They got married exactly one year after they graduated from Harvard; sentimental reasons I'm guessing. They were both 25 years old at the time.
Three years into their marriage, they were having the time of their lives. They had decided to move to Chicago to start their careers. With all of the crime that went on in that city, they had no trouble finding their first jobs. They quickly became well known lawyers, especially my mother. Although not as booksmart as my dad, she was a natural when it came to debating and law. With all of the money that they were bringing in, they decided that they wanted to have a child. That's where I come in.
