The Fall of Atlantis. Landing Party
I get up from where I was sitting. Derpy quickly grabbed her bag of muffins and followed me to the door. As I held the door open for Derpy. She smiled with the bag in her mouth.
"Fank youf Facob." Derpy said while fighting the bag in her mouth.
"Yep..." I tried not to laugh. I continued to hold the door open for Celestia and Luna.
"Thank you." Both Luna and Celestia said while giving me a smile.
I walked into the hospital; following Luna and Celestia. I look over in the lobby and saw Twilight and Rainbow Dash looking at me. The other four were also looking at me, so I decided to introduce myself. I turned to look at the orange one.
"Hello. I'm Jacob. How is your cart?" I smiled.
"Well its fine partner." She tilted her hat. "My name is Applejack and I hear you put Rainbow Dash in her place yesterday..." Applejack raised an eyebrow.
"It was nothing more than a misunderstanding; I assure you." I turn to a yellow pony with a pink main and tail.
"Good morning. It is a pleasure to meet you; I am Jacob." I gave her a smile.
"I'm Fluttershy..." She said in a whisper. I kneel down close to her.
"I'm sorry I didn't catch that. could you repeat yourself?" I turn my head to face my ear to her.
"I'm Fluttershy..." She was even quieter then last time.
"It's okay." I stand up and put my hand on her head. "When you get more comfortable with me. I will ask for your name again. I gave her a smile and walked over to a pink pony. "Morning. I'm Jacob."
"I know that silly... It's not like your name can change when you talk to somepony else!" She quickly smiled. "I'm Pinkie Pie!" I smiled and turned to the white one.
"Hello Jacob." She smiled. "I am Rarity."
"Nice to meet you all." Twilight then interrupted.
"Jacob... Is everything alright?" Twilight looked at me with wide eyes.
"Yes..." I raised an eyebrow. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Don't worry about her." Rainbow Dash Interrupted. "She always over reacts." She walked up to me and nudged my side with her hoof. "Besides; you have somepony waiting for you." She pointed to Derpy and Luna.
"Right... Thanks." I turned and made my way into the room.
"Are you sure you want to do this? It might not be wise after what you experienced last time." Luna and Celestia watched as I made my way to the bed.
"I am sure. I need to know what happened." I laid down on the bed.
"Okay." Luna gave me a worried look. "I must warn you. You will regain consciousness in the same spot as you left. You will continue to feel the pain you have experienced. Knowing this; do you want to continue."
"Yes." I closed my eyes and relaxed.
"I commend you for your bravery. We will begin." I heard her walk closer to me as another shark pain shot through my forehead.
I opened my eyes slowly. Siphonei was still holding her hand out to me. I got to my hands and knees and made my way closer. I quickly reach out and grabbed her hand. She pulled me to the ladder and placed me to where I could climb down.
"Hurry Jacob! we need to close the hatch. You have had too much radiation exposure as it is." She watched me climb down the ladder as she closed the hatch.
We quickly made our way to ground level. I was quickly brought to my hands and knees once again. The burning was too much.
"What's wrong!?" Siphonei quickly rushed to my side. "Are you alright!?"
"I am fine... I had too much radiation, so my body feels like it's on fire." I take deep breaths to try to calm my nerves. "Just give me a couple of minutes. I should be fine."
"We don't have a minute!" Siphonei looked up as the alarms started blaring. "We have to go now!"
"Sure..." I made my way to my feet slowly. "Why are the alarms going off now? It's a little bit of a late reaction don't you think?"
"I don't know why they had a late response time." Siphonei and I looked at the door as we heard screaming and yelling. "We need to get to a shelter! Come on!" Siphonei grabbed my arm and put it around her shoulder.
"No!... We need to get your family. I have a bunker in my living quarters." I started to cough up blood. "My bunker will shield us from harm."
"Right." She helped me to the door.
"I am fine." I take my hand off of her shoulder. "It looks like people are running south. We need to head north to your apartment, so stay close behind me."
"Right..." Siphonei opened the doors and saw everyone running away from the blast.
I quickly grabbed Siphonei's hand and started to run against everyone else. It was strange; I saw no Atlantis military on our way to the apartments. I heard aircraft launching and a lot more bombs going off, but nothing like the first bomb.
"Hurry! Find your kids. They might be in their rooms hiding. I will keep an eye out down here." I watched as Siphonei rushed off. I turned to watch the door.
This didn't make since. Why didn't the Global Defense Network activate after a weapons launch? I made that system to be flawless. The only thing that came to mind was the Ascension Project. They must have shut the network down to update the Friend and Foe system. I heard noises coming from behind me; I turned to look.
"Siphonei. Hurry!" I ran up to her and her kids. "I will carry John; you carry Crystal." I quickly pick John up. "Both of you need to close your eyes. It won't be good for you two to see what is out there."
Siphonei and I quickly made our way to the hall with the kids. As far north as we were; the halls were completely empty. We quickly made our way to my living quarters; while bombs continued to fall outside.
"Hurry! Get inside." I quickly open the door and place John inside. I watch as Siphonei ran inside with Crystal on her back. I quickly step inside; closing the door behind me. " Siphonei I need to go back to the hanger."
"Why!?" Siphonei put Crystal down and walked over to me.
"The engine on the fighter is experimental." I walk over to a hidden compartment on the floor. "I don't know what will happen if it was subject to a large explosion, but I don't imagine it to be good." I opened the hidden door and help the kids down.
"Why would you create something if it is so dangerous? That is just stupid." Siphonei walked over to me as I held out my hand.
"For the same reason I helped create bombs like the one we saw." I helped Siphonei down into the hole. "We need a defense for aliens like today." I quickly close the door before Siphonei could say anything.
I quickly ran into the kitchen and leaned over the sink. I started to cough violently, but no blood came out. I was recovering slowly, but it was still hard to breath. I made my way out the door and down the hall. I was going as fast as I could, but not fast enough to strain my lungs.
I was about half way to the hanger. I was quickly stopped by a large explosion by the wall. I looked to the smoke and saw three shadows emerge. I backed away slowly until I heard voices.
"We have movement..." They started to walk towards me.
"Hello?" I said while they came closer. They quickly cleared the smoke and started to yell at me.
"Atlantis Special Forces!" They quickly brought their guns up. "Get on the ground!" I looked at the insignia on their shoulders and sure enough they were ASF. "Get on the ground! Comply!"
I quickly put my hand up and looked at my chest. I quickly dropped to my knees and placed my hands on my head, as I saw three green lasers moving on my chest.
"Who are you! State your name!" The one in the back yelled.
"I am Jacob Bartly. I am a scientist." I was quick to reply. "Resident number R306777." I looked up as the one in the back scanned over a small computer screen.
"He checks out." He rushed over to me and helped me to my feet. "Why are you not in a shelter yet?"
"I have a new invention on a outdated fighter in the hanger." I brushed myself off. "I need to get to it and fly it off this planet."
"That can wait. You are in a hot zone. This sector is being flooded by radiation and enemies are landing all over the place." He grabbed my arm. "Come on! You need to get to a shelter."
"No!" I quickly jerked my arm away from the man. "You don't understand. If that fighter blows up; the planet will follow."
"What are you talking about?..." All four of us stopped. "You are not making any since."
"I have a black hole on that fighter. Do you understand that now?" I ran past the men.
"Wait!" One of the men yelled at me. He was quickly cut off by an explosion in front of them.
"What the hell was that!?" I quickly turned to the explosion.
I carefully watched the smoke pour from the wall. As the smoke started to thin; I could see a small object balled up on the ground. I watched as the object started to grow. It looked like it started to take the form of a man, but something was different. The thing was huge; when it stood up. It was at least nine feet tall. I continued to watch the object sprout another leg in the back. I watched as the third leg quickly dug down in the ground.
"Get back!" I yelled. "It is stabilizing itself for an attack!" I quickly dove to the ground.
A split second after; a loud noise shook the halls. The noise was so loud that it shook my body to the core. Something about this sound was strange. It made me weak and almost unresponsive. I look back and saw the smoke was gone. I saw one of the solders on the ground covering his head. I looked for the other two, but they were nowhere to be found. I lifted my head a little off the ground and saw a large puddle of blood. I quickly made my way to my feet, as did the soldier.
"Don't let it attack again! It uses our harmonic frequency as a weapon!"
"What does that mean!?" He quickly charged the object.
"It uses sound to shatter the cells in our body. Whatever those things are; they use sound as a weapon. Stay close to him while you fight and you should be safe!" I keep my distance from them both as I continued to watch.
He quickly moved in as the third leg of the object seemed to vanish. It looked like it sprouted some kind of arm this time. It then grabbed the soldier and pinned him to the ground on his stomach.
"A little help would be nice!" He then yelled as he was slowly being crushed.
I quickly bend down and charged. I jumped at the object and quickly noticed. It was a machine with something in it. I could hear something rattling on the inside. As I had it on the ground; I arched my elbow up. I quickly bring it down as it brought its third arm up to try and stop me. As my elbow made contact. It split the metal and broke whatever was inside it. The creature let out a deafening howling noise as kicked me off of it. It kicked me with enough force to throw me about ten feet in the air.
While I was in mid air. It quickly recovered and got to its feet. I then realized the third arm wasn't an arm at all. It looked to be a tail. A couple of feed before I hit the ground. it quickly forced its hand against my chest and slammed me against the wall. It started to make noises; like it was trying to talk. I looked at its other arm as a large glowing blade unfolded from its armor.
"Cover your face!" The soldier yelled as he brought his gun up to his arm.
I covered my face as best as I could and saw him firing at the creature. Quick beams of plasma ripped through its armor and it quickly fell to the ground with me. I slowly get up while coughing.
"Are you okay?" He ran over to help me.
"Yeah; just a little short on breath. It's a little hard to get air in your lungs when you have plasma shooting past your head." I slowly make my way to my feet. "I don't think I got your name."
"My name is John Mathews." John brushed off the dirt on my shoulder. "Resident number Z993777. Atlantis Special Forces of the First Fleet."
"A triple seven? So you lived on Appela too?" I stared in amazement. "Why are you on the ground?"
"The first fleets were on break. The second and the sixth fleets took our place in defense as our new flag ship was commissioned." John sighed. "Look how much good that did us."
"Judging by the weapons they have been using; the outcome might have been the same. It seems they are a couple hundred hears ahead of us." I looked around the halls. "I think it would be best if I get to the hanger. I am going to need your help to get in."
"Right. Then we best get moving. I don't want to run into any more of those things." John put his hand up pointing down the hall. "You lead the way."
"Okay. Let's go." We quickly ran down the hall.
As we ran down the hall. The outcome was evident; we are losing the battle. They struck us where it hurt the most. When everyone was at a launching party. We didn't even pull out all of the stops. The Global Defense System was probably destroyed along with the second and sixth fleets. The first fleet was hit when they bombed the Ascension Project. I don't even know if the third, fourth and fifth fleets made it off of the moon to aid in defense. It made me wonder how the moon base was. If it was as bad as it was here. They would have lasted longer, but not much longer.
"Get down!" John yelled as he pushed me down.
Five loud blasts shattered the windows. The concussive blast had enough power to gently push me towards the wall. I look out the broken window.
"What happened?" I asked while standing back up.
"They are using the gauss weapon systems." John quickly got up and pushed me forward.
"We banned the use of gauss weapons on this planet. It is too small to have a nuclear bomb propel the projectile. The fallout would plunge the world into an ice age." I looked back out the windows as we ran. I could see large plooms of smoke jetting out of the landscape.
"Don't you get it Jacob... We already lost. The only thing we can do now is to kill as many as we can."
"What about the natives!? They have no way to defend themselves against something like this." We quickly stopped at the hanger door.
"The natives don't matter!" John quickly opened the door. "Go! Get to your ship and get out of here!"
"You're not coming?" I ran towards my fighter.
"No; I am going to stay and fight." John smiled at me.
"You are stupid! You are going to die... Being a triple seven means nothing when you are exhausted. We are not on Appela, so we are weaker since moving to this planet." I reach my hand out towards John. "Don't throw your life away."
"That's a nice sentiment, but as long as Atlantis still stands. I will continue to fight." John Smiled one last time. "Get out of here Jacob." I watched as John turned around and closed the door.
I walked into the fighter and closed the door behind me. I walked up into the cockpit and sat down. I took a deep breath and looked over the controls.
"Computer! Scan surrounding space. Look for friendly's and isolate the enemies."
I reach over to turn on the teleporter. I adjusted the power to 1%. I then turned back to the scan results. I see an opening and gathered the co ordinance.
"Computer! Teleport to 0.1 AU at X02 Y32." I waited at the ship started to shake. Soon after a bright glow shined through the front window. "Computer! Open all communication channels!" Voices quickly flooded the cockpit. "Computer. Isolate all channels within a 5 mile radius."
"We have an unidentified craft appear by the moon. Requesting permission to engage!"
"Negative! I am a friendly." I quickly cut in.
"Who are you!?" He was quick to reply.
"My name is Jacob Bartly. I am a scientist; resident number R306777."
"Do you have weapons on that fighter Jacob?"
"Negative; I am empty handed."
"Then get the hell out of here. You will only be in the way!"
I quickly turned off my radio. I looked around and saw a lot of wreckage floating around.
"Computer! Scan the area and find me some bombs that will be big enough to take out a flag ship." The computer quickly found one candidate.
I quickly run back towards my teleporter and made some quick modifications. I double checked my work and ran back in the cockpit.
"Computer! Teleport that bomb in the rear compartment!"
I looked back and covered my eyes to a bright white light. I looked and saw a large bomb sitting in the back by the door.
"Computer. Look for the largest enemy space craft. Find me a clean path towards it."
I watched the screen as the computer pointed out the best way for me. I quickly took control of the fighter. I turned the radio on and quickly flew off.
"I need cover! I have a bomb on board and I am dropping it off in their flag ship." I waited for a response.
"For a scientist; you are extremely stupid! You can't bomb anything while they have shields. How do you plan to deliver the bomb?"
"I invented a teleporter. I know it works, because it teleported me by the moon." I waited for someone to say something.
"How?"
"It doesn't matter how! Just give me cover and I will teleport the bomb past their shields. They won't know what hit them." I continued to fly towards the large ship.
"Rodger that! All remaining fighters in my unit. Form up on that fighter! Make sure he reaches his target unharmed!"
I watched as my radar showed about 20 small fighters form up around me. We were quick to grab the attention of our enemy. Soon after about five fighters broke off and engaged the enemy.
"Keep pushing forward!" People started to yell over the radio.
We quickly came up on the large space craft. I started to fly around behind it. I was careful not to crash into its shields.
"Computer! Teleport the bomb behind the engine! Make sure it is directly in the fire!" Light quickly flooded the cabin of my fighter.
Seconds after the light vanished. My fighter shook violently. I was thrown out of my chair. I hit my head on the ground hard. I looked up and saw a bright light pulsing from the front window of my fighter; then I quickly blacked out.
"Stay in bed Jacob." I opened my eyes and looked at Luna. "Stay in bed; just relax."
"I am fine; don't worry about me." I slowly got up and sat at the edge of the bed.
"It is getting late." Celestia smiled at me. "I think it would be in our best interest if you just went to sleep."
"Yeah; I guess so." I watched as they all walked out of the room. I laid back in the bed and closed my eyes. As exhausted I was; I fell asleep very quickly.
