A single figure stood against the night. A dark cloak held around her runes scratched along the surface in an unimportant pattern
Twilight Sparkle was staring into the night her dark blue eyes flashing in the moonlight. Her horn pulsing with an unnatural blue hue that was strange even to pony kind. Her horn was not that of a regular horn and held dark blue scratches showing the source of her unnatural power.
Her plain attire only noticeable by the dark circulate around the base of her horn. She was pacing, her hooves making hard clacks as they hit the surface of the hard pavement.
She stopped moving, in the silence it was hard to tell if she was even breathing. A statue standing in the night.
In a flash of light she was not alone, the creature jumped out of the night as if from nowhere and pinned her to the ground. Its body was wolf like in appearance and held her down with ease.
Even though it appeared as a wolf Twilight could see that its fangs were dripping with venom and that its fur was more of a scale then hair.
The thing was breathing heavily as it sniffed at the pray it held captive below it.
Twilight looked up into the beasts eyes they were maddened and screaming.
One paw was holding Twilight's horn hard to the ground, blocking the runes from connecting. The other holding her right front hoof to the ground. Its claws pushing through the metal band around her wrist. She then began to search for her knife among the folds of cloth covering her chest. Her hoof was shaking uncontrollably so she began to try and slow her breathing as to clear her head. Wishing with all her heart that her horn would react.
Her breathe began to slow as she tried to calm herself and find that all important knife; it was taking all of her concentration not to break eye contact with the menace above her.
Why doesn't it attack? It must know something I don’t. Doubt was setting into Twilight's mind.
She found the knife and sharply knead the monster in the stomach it riled up in shock dragging Twilight with it. Its claws punctured the metal around her horn and were soon going through it, she held her breathe to try and drag her concentration away from the pain.
The monsters paw locked around Twilight's horn. Twilight's face locked in agony, gritting her teeth trying to stop herself from screaming out in agony. She began to try and ease her head off the beasts jagged claws.
The creature pulled back violently trying to shake the pony off. Its claws were wrenched out of her head taking runes with it, new scratches running the length of the horn. Twilight fell to her knees screaming at the pain in her head.
The monster recoiled and watched her warily from the shadows.
Twilight stared at the long scratches along the edge of her hoof in disbelief, green smoke was rising from the wound in dark wisps.
“So your teeth are not the only things that contain poison then mister wolf” she said looking at the creature in the shadows.
The creature growled in response.
It suddenly leaped towards her. Its claws outstretched hungry for the kill.
Twilight dodged the monsters jaws but its paw caught the edge of her cloak ripping it from her head leaving an ugly cut from her chin to her forehead. Twilight cried out in pain and clasped a hand over her injured face. Her mane becoming matted with blood.
The creature turned to face her again its jagged teeth bared at its pray.
With one hand still clasped to her face Twilight began to edge away from the monster. The poison seeping through her veins was making it difficult to move as she was dragged herself along the ground using only one arm.
But the monster was to quick and leapt towards Twilight.Twilight cried out in pain once again but the monster got there first and clamped it's jaws around Twilight’s staff, the expression on its face could only be a cruel smile of victory
Twilight tried to dive away from the monster and she believed that she nearly had it but the monster pulled up suddenly, leaping above her and landing with a sickening crunch on her back. All of the breathe was crushed out of her lungs. She pushed her head to one side and peered up at the creature above her.
The horn was still held in its jaws. It bit down and Twilight's horn broke with a sickening crunch, pain ran through her body. Twilight cried out, a piece of her soul had been ripped out of her. It was then that she realized she was going to lose this fight and her life.
The creature stepped back off her, Twilight didn’t move.
Recognising his victory the creature lifted up his head and howled. But it wasn’t the sound of a wolf that was heard. It was the deafening sound of a Sassilk, like a thousand dying warriors being tortured by a thousand more.
It was then that Twilight knew that no matter what happened to her she had to kill that thing. Even if her half soul was only destined for death she had to save everyone from it.
She knew that no mortal blade would kill it but she also knew that it would do nothing until its song was finished.
Twilight summoned all her strength. Her horn was no longer living but would still serve this purpose.
Using the last of her power she slammed her broken horn into the Sassilk’s chest.
The Sassilk uttered one more note of its terrible song then fell silent.
Twilight stooped next to the creature, black blood pooling at her feet. She stared at the monster her eyesight began to fail and she blacked out. Slumping next to the beast.

A dark pony stood on the edge of the door way into another one of Equestria’s quickly failing pubs. She took a deep breath before pushing her hoof onto the door “Out of all the places to go why did she have to come here” She said to the vacant doorway. “Here it goes” She pushed through the heavily beaded door. Greeted by smoke and the harsh stench of incense.
“Luna?” A unknown pony questioned, she was of earth pony origin and had a pale green coat and a purple mane.
The new arrival looked up unsure of the identity of the speaker “Who is asking?”
“You have been in hiding for a while now, why is it now that you choose to show your face?”
Luna, deciding to ignore the question, instead decided to ask a question herself “You appear to know a lot about me, yet I have never seen tail of you. Will you trap me in idle chatter all evening or may I get on with the business that I came here for?”
“You seam sum what agitated. Was it something I said?” said the green pony calmly with a slight cocky smile.
“May I have the pleasure of your name” Luna said it a slightly gruff voice.
The earth pony smiled “It is of no importance, my name won’t make any difference to are meeting. It will still play out the same. Although I do believe that the object of your search is getting drunker as we speak, so I should not take up much more of your time” She gestured towards the blue Pegasus slumped at the bar. Luna glanced towards the Pegasus in question and then turned back to the mysterious pony, only to meet an empty space where she once stood.
Luna sighed; maybe she should have stayed in hiding she was already fed up with strange pony encounters. She turned back to the blue pony at the bar. “well it can only get easier” she said weakly to herself.
The dark blue alicorn started to walk towards the pony in question her mane forming a blue haze around her head. “hey there Rainbow Dash”
“Don’t call me Dash” Came the short, gruff, slightly slurred reply.
“And why wouldn’t I your name is Rainbow Dash isn’t it?”
The blue mare began to trace her hoof over the rim of her glass, ultimately pretending that the alicorn did not exist.
“This is childish Rainbow” Luna had to bite her lip in order to stop herself; she hated shortening the names of Pony's that she did not know very well.
“Now you’re speaking my language princess” Rainbow finished with a mock bow, nearly falling off her stool in the process. Luna had to reach out hoof in order to catch the falling Pegasi. Once she got her bearings Rainbow quickly shoved off the other pony’s hooves “I don’t need help!”
Luna couldn’t help but smiling “You sound just like Apple Jack”
It was obvious she had she had struck a nerve. The unhappy drunkenness of Rainbow was fast becoming a hard, angry glare. “Don’t talk about AJ. You have no right” She then returned to sipping her drink as if the last five seconds had not past.
Taken aback by the mare’s reaction Luna decided not to push it. “I need your help” Luna took yet another deep breathe “You’re the only pony I have left to turn to”
“What about your super special Twilight Sparkle; best pony of her generation” Rainbow’s tone was flat.
“You know that she will never trust me, there is some hope. I have done all I can to make it so. But I can’t do this final thing”
“Well I bet I can’t do it either, anyway I have this huge important thing I have to do” There was an edge of sarcasm in her voice “I’m starting a brand new one wing society”
“I can see that you are doing a lot from your bar stool”
“Can’t you just leave me to be bitter? I was perfectly depressed before you showed up”
“And what are you now?”
“Angry. As it appears that I have been found, I will have to move again because of you. I was just getting used to this place, true it isn’t exactly fancy but at least it vaguely resembles home. Then you have to come in talking about all of your saving Equestria rubbish. Equestria is done for, there is nothing you can do” She then returned to staring into the bottom of her drink, quietly muttering to herself.
“Are you done” Luna questioned. Rainbow’s only response was to glare at her. “Either way I am going to make you listen to what I have to say to you. You can remain in this hole if you want to. I’m not asking for much I just want you to speak to a pony is all”
A vast silence filled the air before Rainbow deemed it time to answer “What do you need from the pony in question?”
“Information”
“And why do I have to be the one to get it”
“The pony in question has developed a slight hatred for me. But she knows you”
“Pinkie Pie”
“Yes. You see there was a spell she discovered. I received it one week ago.”
“You cast it?”
“I didn’t have much choice” Rainbow raised an eyebrow at this “The parchment was jinxed” Luna replied hotly.
“So Pinkie is using magic now” Rainbow said grinning “Are you sure we are talking about the same Pinkamina Diana Pie?”
Luna huffed “Can we just get back to the point”
“Fine”
“Well as I was saying, I received a spell and cast it. The parchment along with it said it would spark new hope and life in Equestria.” Luna looked down at the floor “But even after further study of the spell we don’t even know what it did. We only know that it is only a small part of a bigger plan, both magical and otherwise.”
“So that is where I come in”
“Yes”
The Pegasus pondered for a minute before standing up “I have been meaning to visit pinkie for a while now”
The remaining Alicorn looked after the Pegasus, glancing over her right wing and the feathered stub where the left should be “I’m Sorry” then she followed rainbow Dash out.
