Chapters Scratching Family Matters
A deep purple pegasus was flying back to his home in Ponyville. His deep colored body blended perfectly with Luna's night. There was only one way you could tell that he was flying is if you saw his main and tail, it was bright red with only one cyan stripe. When he had finally reached his house he immediately went straight to his bedroom, and fell face forward on his mattress. 'God, today was rough. My boss is really laying it on.' He thought 'Man am I glad that I don't have work tomorrow.' He let out a deep sigh.
*5 minutes later*
Just as he was about to fall into a deep sleep, he heard 3 loud bangs on his door. "Who the hell comes knocking on ponies' doors at this time of night" He sleepily walked over to his door "What do you want?" he said as he opened his door.
"Hi, brother" the unicorn said.
The purple pegasus's pupils dilated and he became fully awake. "No, no, no, not you.." He looked down at the unicorn "What do you want?!" He said with anger while holding back a tear. He saw a once marvelous neon blue main that seemed to shine, now torn and dirt covered it.
'Is that blood?!' he thought as he saw the once sleek white coat, now covered in dirt and what looked like blood. "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" now fully yelling. "I TOLD YOU TO NEVER TO COME HERE AGAIN!"
"FireFight," -Said the mare- "I..I'm sorry"
"SORRY ISN'T GOING TO CUT IT!" FireFight said "SORRY ISN'T GOING TO MAKE IT BETTER, VINYL!" By this time half of the town was awake, seeing what all the commotion was about
"Fiery, please." pleated Vinyl
He flinched when Vinyl called him that name "No, no, I can't" He stopped yelling, then shed one tear "I can't forgive you for what you did."
At that point he slammed the door in Vinyl's face. Then he slowly walked to his room.
"What the hell was that about?!" Frantically asked his roommate, she never saw FireFight this angry...
"It's nothing of your concern Spitfire, just go back to bed..."
The fiery mare opened her mouth to say something, but then decided to not argue with FireFight, so she went upstairs to her room and went back to bed.
*The next morning*
Fire walked into the kitchen to see Spitfire cooking. 'Ugh, just great, she is going to make me tell her about last night..' he thought 'Thats the last thing I want right now...' he sat down at the table.
"So..." Spitfire said trying to start a conversation, she sat down at the table. "Might as well cut the bullshit, who was the mare at the door, and why were you yelling at her?"
"Family matters"
"That's a bullshit answer, and you know it." She said shortly and sharply.
Firefight knew it was pointless to fight Spitfire "You caught me. That was my lil' sis, some....thing happened between us and I want nothing to do with her."
"Does it have to do with...you know..." she gestured to his right eye, which had heavy gauze surrounding it.
".....yes...." He slowly raised his hoof to his eye....
Vinyl slowly walked away from his brother's house crying. 'I thought I could at least do something right with my life'. Vinyl's mind wandered throughout the last few years. She had been to many towns applying at any place that had music involved in the job. Waitress at a bar, always singing at open mic nights. None of it went well. "Get off the stage!" "My Grandmother can sing better than you!" "You'll never make it in the real world, so why don't you give up now!?" No one wanted her, everypony hated her, even her own brother wanted nothing to do with her.
She let her memory wander, back to her early childhood. "But Mom!" whined a white unicorn filly "Why does Fiery get to buy a pet?!"
"Firefight gets to buy a pet because he has saved up his bits and he has shown responsibility that he can take care of a pet" a blood red unicorn mare with a deep purple mare replied calmly "Until you have shown that you can take care of a pet, I'm not buying you a turtle. No matter how much you whine, and that's final."
"But..but...but mom-"
"No buts Vinyl" she interrupted "Ah here comes Firefight, lets see what he got!" she smiled to her filly
"Hey mom I need some of your help carrying a tank that I just bought" he smiled innocently but behind that smile was a mischievous grin.
"Sure honey" she smiled "What did you get, a fish?"
He turned and smiled mischievously to his sister. "No not a fish"
Vinyl giggled as she was piecing together what he had bought, she whispered "You didn't." she saw the mischief in his eye.
"Oh yes I did. I bought the one thing that mom hates, and I love." He grinned "A snake"
"GAHH!"
"That's my que" he ran towards his mother "What is it mother?"
"S-s-snake!" she looked at her son "No..you...didn't." she saw her son's face "Great, now we have a snake in the family."
Right then Vinyl and Fire burst into laughter and fell on the floor
Vinyl then snapped back into reality. She realised she was crying. "I'm sorry Fiery, I'm deeply sorry."
Scratching Family Matters
It had been a weak sense Vinyl had... visited. Firefight was calming down. He had the day off so he thought he would go to the market and get some groceries. Neither Firefight or Spitfire could stand fast food, so they always cooked, more Firefight than Spitfire. As much as he hated to say it, he couldn't stand Spitfire's cooking. For a fact, almost every time Spitfire had cooked he had gotten extreme diarrhea . Yep, extreme diarrhea. He always went into the Everfree forest. He wasn't scared of it like most ponies were.
He smiled. Despite the horrible feeling depositing his...load...he had some memorable times there. Actually, one time he Shat , you heard he, shat on a timberwolf's face. And to add to that, it died. It died. That proves how bad of diarrhea Firefight got when Spitfire cooked. She was no cook. But he couldn't say that to Spitfire's face. He snapped back to reality and realized that he was at the market.
'Lets see...' He thought. 'I need some butter, three carrots, two onions, two celery stalks, some tomatoes to make into paste, some cabbage,... Ah! Yes, some green beans.' He took a quick glance at his flank. He smiled. His cutie mark was a boiling bot with a ladle by its side. He stopped at a stand, "Hey carrot top, may I get two carrots please!" He said with a smile.
"Oh, hey Firefight! It's been a while!" She handed him the two carrots. "That'll be two bits!"
He handed her the bits."Thanks now, I gotta go. I'm cooking dinner for Spitfire." He ran off in the direction of the other stands.
He knew that Spitfire, Hell, everypony in town liked his cooking. He thought that it would be a nice gift for Spitfire after she got home after wonderbolts training. Also, his stomach couldn't stand Spitfire's cooking. After he got everything, he was in a rush to get home. Then he crashed into his 'sister' in law, The element of generosity, Rarity.
"Oh, my, I'm so sorry, I wasn't -" Then he realized who it was then fell to the ground laughing.
"No, no, no, not my marvelous main and coat!" The tomatoes had been launched into Rarity's face and splattered all over mer 'Marvelous' main and coat.
Sarcastically, Firefight said "Actually, the red makes you look better. You look less like a train wreck." He said with an evil grin.
"Your horrible!" she wailed. She ran off to her boutique. Firefight couldn't understand the rest of what she said. It was just a jumble of words to him.
"Meh" he said as he shrugged off the insult. Just after that he saw a purple and green dragon run after him. 'Geez Spike, you'll never get a shot at Rarity, she is married to my brother.' then he realized "Oh shoot I need some more tomatoes." he picked up everything else, thankfully they were not destroyed like the tomatoes, and ran off towards the tomato stand. 'How can my brother even put up with that whiny bitch' he thought.
Scratching Family Matters
Vinyl had lost count of how many days she had spent walking away from Ponyville. She finally stopped, looked around and took in her surroundings, and realized that she was in Canterlot. 'Great, I'm in Canterlot. Where everypony are stuck up snobs.' She thought. She saw two stallions having lunch, one on the left with pitch black glasses. Vinyl's stomach growled. 'Hm...the stallion on the left is blind...'Then she snapped out of her hunger/stealing moment. 'No! There is no way I am resorting to stealing. Especially not from a blind stallion.' She mentally punched herself
'I'll just get something from a trash can or a dumpster. It's not the worst time I've been through, even though I'm homeless doesn't mean I don't have standards' She started to walk away, but she ran into a grey earth pony with a black mane. Once they got up Vinyl was the first to speak. "I'm so sorry miss. I wasn-" She was cut short by the grey pony.
"It's quite alright. This happens to me once in awhile, but you are the first to say you're sorry. The ponies here always say its my fault. So I take it you're not from around here." Vinyl opened her mouth to say something but again was interrupted by the earth pony. "Where are my manners, my name is Octavia." Octavia looked at vinyl and saw her mane and coat. "It looks like you've seen better days..."
"My name is Vinyl Scratch. And yes I have seen better days" She said sadly "Lets see I've been homeless for...two, no...three?.. Oh! Right, five. I've been homeless for five years." Vinyl stopped with a puzzled expression. "Wait, why am I telling you this?"
"I guess I just have one of those faces." She smiled "Now, you look like you could use something to eat. Eh! How bout' it Vinyl!"
Vinyl's stomach growled. She moved her hoof to her stomach and realized that it was covered in dirt. "I doubt anypony here would let me in, ya know, the whole homeless and covered in dirt thing." Octavia was going to say something but this time Vinyl cut her off. "But that accent, thats not a Canterlot accent. Where are you from, exactly?"
"Hm, impressive. You can tell the slight difference in a Canterlot accent and mine. I'm just here visiting my folks, I'm from Ponyville."
Vinyl's heart saddened at the thought of Ponyville. Of her brother. "Do you know Firefight?"
"Of course! Everypony in town knows Firefight! He can be a bit strange though. Once when he settled into Ponyville and everyone got to know him, Hm...I wonder why he has that bandage on his right eye..., Anyways, once a little filly called him Fiery, and he broke down into tears. I wonder why...wait? Why do you ask?"
Vinyl's heart saddened. "I want you to give him this." She reached into a little purse/handbag and pulled out a knife. A six inch paring knife. Still perfectly clean, still very sharp
'Wow how did she keep it so clean? And since when did she have that bag?' thought Octavia "Um...ok. Is it ok if I ask why?"
"Nothing of your concern."
Octavia looked at the knife "Oh ok..." She looked back at Vinyl and was going to say something but then realized that she was gone. Something on the knife got Octavia's attention. 'Hm. A sticky note. No, I shouldn't. It's personal matters.' But her curiosity got the better of her.
'Dear Firefight,
I'm truly and deeply sorry about what happened between us. I should have listened to you. I'm sorry I took your first, and best, knife, I wanted something of yours to keep close to me. If you will ever forgive me, i'll be in Canterlot.
Your lil' sis, Vinyl Scratch .'
Octavia saw little dried spots on the paper. She guessed that they were tear stains. Octavia was on the verge of tears herself. 'I have to give to give this to him immediately. It's settled, I'm giving this to him right away.' Octavia thought. Then a sad thought popped into her head 'What about Vinyl...Ah ha! i'll take her with me. She can stay at my place until she works up the courage to talk to him.' She smiled 'Now lets find Vinyl!'
Vinyl had settled down next to a crappy motel. She sat down, closed her eyes, and fell asleep. Vinyl! 'What is that?' she thought. Vinyl! 'That..that was Octavia'
VINYL!
"Huh...what...I'm up, I'm up. What do you want?" she said sleepily
Octavia grabbed Vinyl by the hoof. "Come on the train is leaving in five minutes!" and she started running.
They had barely made it into the train, Vinyl had barrel rolled into the train. She smiled widely "I always wanted to do that!" they were getting weird looks from everypony else "What, am I the only pony who wanted to do that?" This is the first time in five years she was happy. When Octavia and Vinyl got to their room, a thought popped into her head. "Where...exactly...are....we....going!?" she said in between gasps.
Octavia smirked. "I'm taking you to Ponyville, so you can fix this problem with your brother."
The joy that Vinyl was just feeling went away and was replaced with sadness. "But he won't even let me near his house"
"Just put some hard cider in a drink. Get him drunk, I bet he would be a fun drunk. Drunk people are always easier to talk to"
"Hm...good idea." Then Vinyl realized how late it was. "We should get some sleep."
"Good idea"
