Chapter XIV – Chaos unleashed

“LEMME GO I’LL FUCKING KILL HIM!” Rainbow screamed.

She was being held back by Pinkie and Applejack, she had struck Discord with a right hook to the face when he told the girls what had happened between him and Fluttershy and she lost it.

“Calm down Dash!” Applejack grunted as she held her back.

“LEMME GO HE HAS IT COMING!”

“Rainbow Dash stop it! I’m sure there’s a reason for all this!” Twilight said.

“She’s right Twilight, I have it coming. But if it’s all the same with you Rainbow can it wait till we find Fluttershy?” Discord said as he got up from the floor holding his cheek.

“Fine, but you better pray she’s ok or you’re going to regret it.” Rainbow replied.

Applejack and Pinkie let go of her, Applejack had wanted to join Rainbow in attacking Discord but because she saw him as a friend now she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and hear his side of the story.

“Thank you, now Discord what happened?” Twilight asked him.

Discord sighed and told them what had happened, how he had overheard snippets of the conversation at Twilight’s house and his inner Chaos twisted his thoughts into believing they had all been lying to him for the past six months. Applejack walked up to him and punched his head lightly with sigh.

“You dolt Discord! How could ya even think that?!”

“I have my reasons…” Discord muttered. “Something that happened long ago.”

“There you go again!” Rainbow started. “Every time you seem to be about to tell us something, you just clam up. Just tell us what the fuck is your problem!”

“I…can’t” He replied.

“I have to agree with Rainbow Discord, knowing why you reacted like that would help.” Rarity added.

“Yeah Discy, we’re your friends we won’t judge you.” Pinkie said.

Discord looked at them and was about to protest but stopped and sighed, he looked to his left deep in thought before turning back.

“Fine…I’ll tell you what happened.”

Fluttershy awoke to the sounds of voices talking to each other quietly, murmuring to herself as she tried to focus her vision and tried to move, finding herself bound.

“Don’t bother struggling; we tied you up nice and tight for the trip.” One of the voices said.

She looked up and saw two Changelings sitting beside one another, they were all in a cart that was being pulled by a large creature that was slightly larger than a timberwolf, and it had black skin that was protected by dark green armour like shell, similar to that of a changeling. From the look of it, it reminded her of a large armadillo.

Fluttershy looked to see a third Changeling; the one she thought had spoken, sitting beside her holding a spear. Like the other two they were wearing dark green armour, he looked down at her with a glare and she whimpered averting her gaze.

“W-why are you d-doing this?” She asked softly.

“Because our Queen wishes to control the power of Chaos.” He replied. “And to do that she needs you.”

“What d-do you mean?”

“It’s like I said, you are the bait to lure Discord to our Queen, and she plans to use his feelings for you to get what she wants from him.”

“B-but-“

“Can it private!” One of the Changelings at the front barked interrupting. “And I thought I told you to blindfold her!

“Yes sir, sorry sir.” He replied.

He turned his attention away from Fluttershy grabbing some cloth; she whimpered softly as she looked away as she was blindfolded. She struggled to hold back crying out in panic and fear, what seemed like forever passed before she felt the carriage come to a stop and she dared not open her eyes. She could hear others around her, it was then that Fluttershy was pulled from the cart and dragged along the ground, a cry of pain escaping her lips. She came to a stop and the blindfold was pulled from her eyes, she blinked rapidly as she got used to the new brightness of the area she was in, given she had been in darkness and then suddenly the sound of a female’s voice boomed over the others, it echoed slightly with a buzz that had a sense of superiority in it. Fluttershy instantly recognised who the voice belonged to.

Queen Chrysalis.

As her vision returned to her she heard footsteps approach her and she looked up to meet the eyes of the Queen, she was wearing a dark green royal gown that had a few holes within it. On top of her head rested her crown, unlike Luna’s or Celestia’s it was completely black reminding her of Obsidian. Fluttershy’s eyes widened when she noticed the blade in her hand and closed her eyes as she felt the cold blade touch her chin and lift her head up.

“Welcome Fluttershy…” Chrysalis purred.

Fluttershy didn’t reply, only letting out another whimper. Chrysalis chuckled as she pulled the blade away and handed it to a changeling nearby.

“Why would he fall for something as pathetic as you?” She asked. “No matter…I won’t harm you; you’re still useful to me…for now.”

She turned around and began to walk towards a throne of stone nearby, Fluttershy then realised she was in what appeared to be an old looking stone building. Upon inspecting some of the banners that were on the walls tattered she recognised it as the castle where she and her friends had defeated Nightmare Moon.

“Tie her up and gag her.” Chrysalis ordered with a wave of her hand.

“Yes your highness.” A changeling saluted.

Fluttershy whimpered as she was dragged to a stake near the throne and tied to it before being gagged, she struggled to hold her tears back and closed her eyes.

‘Please Discord…help me!’ she thought to herself.

Twilight and the others stood there in silence, Discord had just finished telling them about his past, not once meeting their gaze. They all struggled to find words, Pinkie’s hair had flattened and she and Rarity had tears in their eyes. Rainbow was looking away slightly ashamed of how she had reacted and Applejack was holding her hat by her side looking at the ground.

“How…could Celestia do that?” Applejack said, her body beginning to shake with anger.

Out of all of them she was the one who could easily tell when someone was lying, and throughout the entire time Discord had been talking, not once had he lied.

“I’m sure there was a reason…there has to be…” Twilight whispered, unsure what to think.

“Look, if it’s all the same to you it’s in the past, right now I just want to find Fluttershy and apologise alright?” Discord said finally meeting their gaze.

“No hun it’s not alright, we all assumed you were just plain evil…we didn’t know all that stuff had happened.” Rarity replied.

“I’m sorry Discord…” Rainbow spoke up rubbing her arm.

“I said its fine!” Discord said a little irritated. “Can we please just focus on Fluttershy?”

“Discord’s right, there’ll be time to talk to the Princess about this later on.” Twilight agree. “Rarity, Pinkie, myself and Applejack will split up and look around town to see if she is there, Discord you and Rainbow go to the Everfree on the off chance she ran in there. We’ll meet back in the town centre in two hours, if we can’t find her I’ll contact Princess Luna to see if she can offer some help.”

They all agreed and headed off in different directions, as Discord and Rainbow headed to the Everfree Rainbow’s wings appeared.

“I’ll look from the sky ok?” She told him.

“Got it.” Discord replied with a nod.

She launched up and began to fly towards the left over the tree tops as Discord entered the forest in the opposite direction to where she had flown off; he tried to use his magic to lock onto Fluttershy’s energy but struggled to summon it cursing the ring.

‘Damn this ring!”

He began to walk carefully trying to hear anything out of the ordinary whilst scanning the ground for a clue; he eventually came to small clearing and noticed that the ground had marks on it indicating a scuffle. He knew this from when he was a child and the numerous times he had gotten into fights, kneeling down on one knee to inspect it further he felt two sudden waves of energy fill him, one he immediately knew belonged to Fluttershy but the other he couldn’t place.

It was definitely human and not an animal’s energy, that much he was definitely certain of. But to who it was or even what it was he couldn’t tell, cursing to himself again he instead focused on honing in on Fluttershy’s energy and closed his eyes. He opened them again shortly after but they were now glowing a light blue, the surroundings had gone completely pitch black and all that could be seen was a light blue line that headed deeper into the forest. With a smirk he began to run after the line dodging all the fallen trees and upturned roots with ease as he followed the line of energy.

Suddenly the line wavered as the ring tried to suppress his magic, he grunted in pain as he caught his foot on a root and fell over tumbling to the ground. He groaned as he stood up and tried to hone in again on the energy but to no avail, he let out a growl of frustration and punched nearby tree.

‘Please Discord…help me!’

Discord shot up in surprise as the words echoed in his mind, they were Fluttershy’s. He looked around trying to figure out what caused that when he felt her energy again and he heard the words again only this time he was able to lock onto where they were coming from because of the energy that had suddenly filled him, was it…her love for him?

He decided to debate it later and once more took off heading in the direction of the energy once more, he thought about alerting the others to his find but decided that it would waste time and for all they knew Fluttershy was in real danger and any time wasted could be disastrous.

Discord ran and ran, he began to feel the exhaustion creep over him. From his earlier outburst with Fluttershy coupled with the ring depleting his powers he was run down, several times as he carried on he nearly collapsed or tripped over something but his determination to find Fluttershy was driving him onwards. Suddenly he felt his legs give way and he fell once more to the ground hard crying out in pain as he rolled into a heap and lay on his back in the dirt.

He tried to move but his limbs weren’t responding and he let out a growl of frustration again, he let out a sigh and closed his eyes as he tried to catch his breath has well as his strength, cursing the ring for a second time.

“No…I refuse to quit now!” He suddenly declared.

Using every ounce of his will he forced himself up slowly but surely, panting as he got to his feet he began to slowly hobble to the direction the energy was coming from. Having nearly no energy left he was unable to trace it and was walking on pure instinct, his eyes grew heavy and his mind began to get hazy as he slowly made his way through the forest. Anyone else would of collapsed from exhaustion or sat down to try and catch their breath but Discord had something within him that was keeping him going, something he had to tell Fluttershy, his love for her.

Twilight panted as she bent over and rested her hands on her knees, she had been running all over the town trying to find Fluttershy and she was tired, not too far behind her was Rarity who looked equally tired and she quickly joined up with Twilight. Soon after the two were joined by Pinkie and Applejack who had been looking on the far side of the town, as they approached Applejack took off her hat and wiped her brow.

“Any luck Twi?” She asked.

“No nothing…” Twilight replied.

“Any ideas what we should do then?” Pinkie asked.

“I think we should contact the Princess.” Rarity replied looking at Twilight.

“I think your right…” She nodded.

Twilight led the girls across the town silently as to not disturb the residents; they had discussed the idea of waking the town up to form a search party but they had quickly decided it would have been a bad idea, mainly due to the possibility of Discord’s identity being exposed. They soon came to the library where Twilight let them in and quietly went to her desk pulling out a quill from the inkpot and tapping it gently before she began to write out a scroll addressed to Luna.

‘Dear Princess Luna

Something has happened between Fluttershy and Discord; we rushed to their house to find that Fluttershy had run away after falling into an argument with Discord about a conversation she had with Princess Celestia earlier this evening. Discord and Rainbow Dash are looking in the Everfree forest and our searches in the town have drawn a blank and we humbly request for your assistance in the matter as we are worried for the safety of Fluttershy, you may be wondering why I am asking you as opposed to Princess Celestia.

The reason is that Discord told us of his past and I felt it would be better if you were the one to handle the situation, as well as the night being your domain, I wait patiently for your reply.

Your faithful citizen,

Twilight Sparkle.’

She placed the quill back into the inkpot and quietly headed upstairs to where Spike was sleeping, she gently gave him a shake and he groaned as he began to wake up.

“Twilight? What is it….I’m trying to sleep…” He murmured.

“I need you to send this scroll to Princess Luna.” She replied.

“Why Luna? Can’t this wait till morning?” He grumbled rolling back and closing his eyes.

“No it can’t Spike! This is serious!” Twilight said.

Spike didn’t reply as he tried to fall back asleep, Twilight groaned in frustration and was about to reason with Spike again before she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned round to see Rarity, a smile on her face.

“Let me Twilight dear.” She whispered. “Oh if there was a handsome young man who could help us in a time of need? It’s quite a shame there isn’t anyone here though that could.”

Spike shot up instantly hearing Rarity’s voice and grinned up at her, he waved his arm rapidly as he jumped up and down in his bed.

“Oh I can, I can!”

“Can you Spikey-Wikey?” she cooed at him.

“I sure can!” Spike replied.

He grabbed the scroll land quickly blew green fire on it sending it away, He grinned up at Rarity who smiled and gave him a long kiss on his cheek.

“Thank you darling, that was very kind of you.”

“Anything for you Rarity…” Spike murmured happily.

Twilight and the others couldn’t help giggled at the spectacle as they awaited the reply from Princess Luna.

Discord came to a stop as he rested against a tree and panted; in front of him was the old castle that once housed the royal family before they moved the capital of Equestria to the city of Canterlot. He growled when he saw the armoured beings dotting around it, he know knew what the second energy had been.

“Changelings…what are they doing here?” He said to himself softly.

Squinting his eyes he noticed that there didn’t seem to be a large number of them, taking his chances he crept slowly and carefully towards the castle, deducing that Fluttershy must be in the castle. He came to a small hill that led down to a small river that separated the land from where he was standing and the castle and began to slide down it, trying his best not to draw attention to himself, sadly though he had failed to notice the charms that had been placed on the trees nearby that suddenly began to glow as he went past them.

Fluttershy jerked her head up as an orb that rested near the throne began to glow brightly, Chrysalis smirked and chuckled lightly.

“The fool…he’s walked right into my trap…” She purred. “Guards! Go and apprehend him and warn him what will happen if he refuses.”

“Yes your highness.”

There was a buzz of movement as Changelings left right and centre began to move, readying themselves for the arrival of Discord. Chrysalis’s horn glowed and Fluttershy was released from the stake but with her hands still bound behind her back and levitated towards the throne.

“I wouldn’t want you to miss a front row seat to the fall of Equestria now would I?” She purred into Fluttershy’s ear.
Fluttershy moved her head away trying to look away and closed her eyes again as her bottom lip quivered.

The girls were sitting in the library when there was a sudden flash of light that engulfed the entire library, when it had subsided Princess Luna and Celestia stood in the centre of the room.

“You requested my presence Twilight Sparkled?” Luna asked.

Before Twilight could answer, the others had all risen from their seats glaring at Celestia.

“Yeah she did, but what in the hay is she doing here?” Applejack asked looking at Celestia, somewhat demanding an explanation with her tone.

“Yeah! Why is the meanie pants here after what she did to Discy?” Pinkie added.

Twilight looked between her friends and the Princesses somewhat fearful, but was shocked when Celestia lowered her head.

“I know Discord has told you of his past…and I know how you must fee l about me-“

“Like you can’t be trusted?” Rarity interrupted crossing her arms.

“Yes…but I ask you that you listen to my side of the story, as did Fluttershy before you truly decide on the outcome. But first to the matter at hand, we should concentrate on finding her first.” Celestia replied.

They reluctantly agreed with a mixture of murmurs and Twilight let out a sigh of relief as Luna took a step forwards.

“Ok, so can you girls please start from the beginning and tell us exactly what happened?” She asked.

“Alright stop shoving I’m moving as fast as I can!” Discord grumbled.

He was being pushed by a Changeling solider and was following another, he had been quickly grabbed a he came to the bottom of the hill and looked up, he saw the charms and cursed himself for not noticing then cursed himself again for how much he had been cursing things that evening. He had been led away in bonds towards the castle, feeling the eyes of the changelings on him with every step. He chuckled to himself softly, even though he had limited powers which were nearly drained it was comforting to him that the looks on the soldiers showed slight fear in his presence.

Eventually they led him inside the castle walls and he growled upon seeing what he saw, Chrysalis was sitting on her throne with Fluttershy tied to a stake nearby and looking down with a smirk at Discord.

“Welcome Discord…I hope you are well?” she asked.

“Cut the pleasantries Chrysalis, what do you want?” Discord replied back.

“So rude Discord.” She tutted. “Is that how you address royalty?”

Discord scoffed and brought up his bound hands to his face and scratched his chin.

“Sorry Chrysie dear, from the look of your ‘castle.’” Discord made air quotation marks with his fingers. “I assumed I was just talking to a common insect.”

Chrysalis let out a low growl as she stood up and quickly walked to Fluttershy and gripped her throat who chocked in her grip, Discord growled as he was held back by two guards.

“I didn’t quite catch your apology Discord.” She growled at him.

“My apologies…Queen…Chrysalis.” Discord said through gritted teeth.

“Better…now shall we get down to business?” She smirked letting go of Fluttershy’s neck.

Discord just glared at her as the guards held onto him, he quickly looked to Fluttershy who whimpered softly holding her tears back. He then glanced back to the Queen as she continued.

“I think you know what I want.”

“And that is?” Discord said raising his eyebrow.

“I know how to break that ring on your finger.” She said pointing her finger at his hand. “All I ask in return is your undying loyalty to me.”

Discord raised an eyebrow; he shook his head and smirked.

“And what makes you think I’ll do that?” He asked.

Chrysalis let out a low chuckle as she clicked her fingers; a soldier drew his blade and placed it to Fluttershy’s neck who whimpered through her gag. Discord growled as he was held back by two guards.

“Do we have an understanding?” Chrysalis asked.

Discord growled again before letting out a defeated sigh.

“Fine…I’ll do as you say, as long as you promise to release her!” He replied.

Fluttershy protested through her gag and struggled against her bonds; Chrysalis chuckled and walked over to her.

“Awww such a touching request, let’s see what Fluttershy has to say about it hmmm?” She chuckled removing her gag.

“No Discord! Don’t do it” Fluttershy cried out.

“I’m sorry Fluttershy…I’ll do anything to make sure you’re safe.” He replied. “I can’t lose you…”

Chrysalis let out a long laugh as he spoke; wiping a tear from her eye she smirked at the man of Chaos.

“How pathetic that you, the God of all that is Chaos…reduced to pitiful waste on the aspect of love.” Chrysalis chuckled.
She beckoned a nearby soldier who came over and undid her bounds; Fluttershy fell to her knees and rubbed her hands.

“Discord…I want you to know, I love you!” Fluttershy said looking down at him.

Discord struggled against the guards, his eyes never leaving Fluttershy’s. He smiled at her chuckling softly.

“I know….I’m sorry it’s taken me so long but…I love you to.” He replied.

No sooner had the words left his mouth; a bright light engulfed his hand. The soldiers holding him let go in surprise as Queen Chrysalis gasped as her vision was temporarily blinded, her sight quickly returned to her to see the ring on Discord’s finger shatter.

Discord growled as his power began to return to him, glaring at Chrysalis with a hatred that could send anyone into a fear driven state. In desperation she grabbed Fluttershy and held her blade to her neck.

“Stay where you are! Or I will cut her throat!” She barked.

Discord growled and he advanced, his powers growing by the second.

“I SAID STAY THERE!”

As Chrysalis Barked her demand, Fluttershy broke free of her and tried to run to Discord but was chased by the Queen, before he could react he saw a blade slice into her side from a startled Changeling solider.

“NO!” he cried out.

Discord watched as his eyes widened, everything seemed to slow down as he watched Fluttershy slowly fall to the ground in silence, the only sound he heard was the beating of his heart; he stared at her and felt something snap Insides of him. The whole room was in silence as the eyes of the soldiers went from the body of Fluttershy and slowly turned to Discord, he simply stood there staring at her body with his eyes wide and unblinking.

“Guards seize him now!” Chrysalis barked in slight panic.

As the soldiers ran to Discord they were suddenly shot back with a wave of energy as Discord let out a deep primal roar that caused the castle to shake and fell to his hands and knees, Chrysalis could only watch in shock as he slowly raised his head. His eyes had changed to a deep shade of crimson red and he was snarling loudly, all of his teeth changing to long sharp fangs.

As soon as the explanation was finished, the Princesses felt a wave of energy flow over them and Celestia herself took a step backwards, a small smile forming on her face. She looked to Luna who looked back with her own smile.

“It’s happened…” Celestia said.

“What has?” Applejack asked her.

“The enchantment on the ring…it’s broken!” Celestia smiled.

“But how?” Twilight said.

“Because Discord has realised what the requirement was…to accept love and to show it to one he truly loves.”
There was a slight pause as the girls suddenly realised.

“He’s with Fluttershy?!” Pinkie asked bouncing in place with a grin.

“That’s right, we should go-“

Celestia was interrupted by a loud roar that echoed throughout the town shaking the foundations of buildings and the library, Celestia, Luna and Twilight cried out in pain grabbing their heads as a sudden wave of energy overwhelmed them.

“What’s wrong?” Applejack asked.

Twilight whimpered as she held her head, Luna and Celestia’s eyes widened in fear as the opened the door of the library and stepped outside looking towards the forest.

“No….no…how though? I felt his ring break but at the same time…” Celestia began.

“His anger is rising; he’s going to turn into…that thing again.” Luna added.

“What do you mean that thing Princess?” Pinkie asked.

“You never had to see it….but the first time we fought Discord…he was being driven by his anger and he had transformed…into a monster.” Celestia replied.

As the girls came out of the library the wind began to pick up violently, the direction being that of the Everfree. The other residents of the town were outside looking into the Everfree with concern as a black light began to shoot into the sky coming from deep within the forest almost dancing in the sky.

“And now…he’s turning into it again…” She whispered.

The Changelings and Chrysalis watched in fear as Discord was slowly enveloped in a black energy which within it they felt malice and hatred that sent a chill down their spines, Discord let out a deep and dark animalistic roar that shook the very earth, his skin began to tear as his body changed and shifted to a size that started to resembled a long serpent and his horns and wings suddenly burst out as his clothes began to rip as his size grew. As he continued to change, a second large wave of energy burst from within him as he arched back roaring out, the wave blasting the walls and ceiling of the castle apart in a large explosion that echoed throughout the forest.

Chrysalis and some of the other Changelings that were nearby were thrown backwards and rolled on the ground Fluttershy staying where she was, protected by some debris that was unaffected by the blast. Chrysalis groaned and looked up her eyes wide as Discord’s left arm slowly changed to that of an eagles and his right arm changed to that of a lions. His back legs ripped into the form of a lizard and a goat as a tail formed and lashed out violently, slamming into the ground sending rubble and dust into the air roaring loudly.

His body suddenly grew in size again as he continued to growl deeply until his body was rivalling the size of an Ursa Minor, Chrysalis could only watch in horror never before having witnessed something so terrifying. She could feel the rage that emitted from the creature, it rose up on its back legs and slammed its front ones down hard into the ground shaking it and sending more rubble into the air. He let out a roar that made the area rumble, he then roared out in a deep voice that echoed itself.

“I WILL SHOW YOU THE POWER OF A GOD!”
