Chapter XIII – Realisation

As Fluttershy closed the door to her home and began to make her way to Twilight’s house, she was unaware of the shadows in the forest watching her every move. She disappeared into the distance and there was silence one more before a low chitter came from the shadows, it was replied by another and they shuffled out of the forest line heading for her house.

The creatures stopped by the door and chittered to one another again before one of them crouched down and began to pick the lock whilst the other kept watch, they heard a click as the door slowly opened and they slipped inside. They ignored everything and headed straight for the bedroom where Discord was sleeping. They stood in the room watching him as his chest rose up and down softly as he slept.

One of them slowly approached and he scanned Discord’s body using its magic, he looked to his cohort and nodded and they both left silently as they entered taking great care to not knock over anything and close the door quietly, they then quickly headed back into the forest.

“He is weaker than we thought; we need to tell the Captain that the time to act is now if the plan is ever to succeed.” One said.

“Agreed, we’d better be quick.” The other replied.

“You go; I shall remain here to monitor the situation.”

“Very well, take care my brother.”

The creature nodded as the other’s wings appeared and it took off with a quiet buzz into the darkness of the forest, the one who remained behind watched as the other flew off before silently making his way through the forest hugging the edge and headed towards Ponyville. As he came closer he quickly darted out to a nearby house and entered it quietly closing the door behind him.

Celestia shot up with a startled yelp as the bright light quickly filled her room; she blinked and let out a loud yawn as she noticed the scroll on her bed. She picked it up curiously and began to open it.

“Strange…wonder why Twilight is sending me a scroll this time of night.” She said softly to herself.

As she opened it she began to read the contents and her eyes widened.

‘Dear Princess Celestia,

I’m sorry for sending you this scroll so late but I’m afraid it’s important, Fluttershy turned up at my house just a few moments ago demanding that I send you a scroll. I asked her why and she said she wanted to have a word with you regarding Discord’s past, she seems a little upset and angry so if you would be willing to come by tonight or tomorrow then maybe all of this can be sorted.

Again I’m sorry for the lateness of this scroll.

“I was afraid of this…” Celestia sighed deeply, she realised Discord must of opened up to her about his past.

She got out of her bed and quickly dressed herself; she opened the door to her room startling the guard by her door.
“I’m going out for a while; please tell my sister she’s in charge of any and all duties while I’m gone.” She said to him.

“Yes your Majesty. “ He replied with a salute.

Celestia closed her doors and summoned a scroll and some ink, she quickly scribbled out a reply to Twilight before sending it off and she walked over to the door that led on to the small balcony that overlooked the gardens, she pushed the doors open and stepped outside and closed her eyes. Her horn began to glow brightly and she vanished in a sudden burst of yellow light.

The library was silent as Fluttershy sat on the sofa her hands resting on her lap, her eyes were closed and her breathing slow. Spike had since gone back to bed complaining about being woken up and Twilight was sitting opposite to Fluttershy, she was nervously twiddling her thumbs as she waited for the arrival of Princess Celestia.

The room was suddenly filled with a burst of light that startled Twilight causing her to yelp but Fluttershy remained as she was, when the light vanished Princess Celestia was standing in the library. She smiled to Twilight who quickly came over and gave her a warm hug to which Celestia returned it.

“Good evening Princess, I’m sorry about all this.”

“That’s quite alright Twilight, now.” She turned to Fluttershy. “What is you wish to-“

She was interrupted as Fluttershy slapped her across the face hard, the sound echoing in the room. Twilight gasped loudly shocked at what she saw, Fluttershy gritted her teeth as she glared at Celestia with anger in her eyes. Celestia remained silent and slowly rubbed her cheek with her hand avoiding eye contact with Fluttershy, the room was silent again as the three stood there.

“F-FLUTTERSHY WHAT DO YOU THINK-“ Twilight cried.

“It’s ok Twilight…I deserved that…and more.” Celestia interrupted.

“B-but Princess she slapped you!” Twilight replied.

“Leave us Twilight….please; this is between Discord, Fluttershy and myself.” Celestia said sternly.

“But-“

“Now.” Celestia spoke coldly.

“O-ok Princess…” Twilight quietly said.

Celestia watched as Twilight slowly left the room and headed upstairs, she then turned her attention to Fluttershy who was breathing heavily and rose her hand up again ready to slap Celestia again, Celestia closed her eyes and braced herself for the hit but it never came. When she opened her eyes Fluttershy’s arm was shaking and she was on the verge of tears.

“Fluttershy…” Celestia started.

“HOW COULD YOU?!” Fluttershy screamed. “HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO HIM?!”

Fluttershy broke down sobbing as she grabbed Celestia’s shoulders and gripped her as the tears flowed down her cheeks, Celestia closed her eyes and pulled Fluttershy into a hug who at first struggled against her but gave up and buried her face into her chest sobbing, Celestia felt her own eyes welling up as she choked back her own sob as the guilt of what she had done came flowing back into her mind.

“I’m sorry Fluttershy…I truly am…will you allow me to tell you my side of the story?” She sniffled.

Fluttershy didn’t reply with words and only gave a slight nod of her head; the two took a seat on the sofa as Fluttershy wiped her eyes with her hands and sniffled, avoiding eye contact with Celestia.

“I know what Discord has told you…that I betrayed his trust and worse…his love.”

Again Fluttershy didn’t reply just simply nodded.

“And it’s a decision I have always regretted my entire life, but please know this Fluttershy…I take responsibility for what happened but I too was a victim in this.”

“How? How are the victim in this!?” Fluttershy replied staring forwards her face etched in anger and sadness.

Celestia took a deep breath and sighed; she leant forwards resting her hands on her legs and closed her eyes.

“Let me tell you about my past and about the man who was my father, King Terra…”

Discord walked through the house mumbling to himself, he scratched his stomach as he let out a loud yawn. He had woken up after dreaming about eating a tub of marshmallows, only to find out he was chewing on his pillow. He grumbled and decided to go and find some food for himself. He wondered into the kitchen and opened the fridge and groaned in frustration, there was nothing in the fridge at all to eat which was strange given he knew there was defiantly food in there, after all he did make dinner earlier that evening. Standing up he stretched then remembered something quite important about himself, he rolled his eyes and chuckled to himself for forgetting.

“I still have some energy left, I could just bloody summon myself a snack.”

“Why would you want a snack…when you could have a nice dessert?”

He heard Fluttershy call from the living room; curiously he entered the living room and stopped staring at her his eyes wide and his jaw dropped.

“What’s the matter Discord…something got your tongue?” She giggled.

Discord simply stared his mouth still open; Fluttershy was lying on the coffee table. Instead the form that did appear, he saw himself exactly as he was the first day he was released from stone, after he had changed his appearance except for his horns which remained, the form of Silver Tongue.

“Who are you?” Discord asked.

“Well I’m you Discord, just the side of you that you forgot, the side that was taken over by chaos all those years ago.” He replied.

“What are you doing here? Was it you who threw me against the wall?”

“No that was our Chaotic side; he was trying to stop us from…” Silver chuckled. “Engaging in some fun, don’t worry I was able to shut him away.”

“But that makes no sense, why would he stop that?” Discord asked raising his brow.

“Because you were close to understanding something.” Silver Replied

“Understand what?”

“Are you being serious Discord? How have you not realised what we feel?” Silver asked crossing his arms.

Discord looked at him as he tried to think, what was he trying to say to him? What feelings? It was then he realised what he meant.

“That…I love her?” He asked.

“Bingo.” Silver smiled.

Discord slowly smiled realising it fully himself, he loved Fluttershy, he truly loved her. The odd feelings he had been having for the past six months was his love for her, the reason he hadn’t picked up on it soon was because Chaos would cause him nightmares in order to suppress his good feelings and let his chaotic side rule his psyche. Discord gasped in happiness as his legs gave way, it was real. They both loved each other.

“Now…” Silver continued. “I think it’s best to wake up now and go tell her, don’t you think?”

Before Discord could answer the world around him began to fade into black as he blacked out again.

Discord shot up out of bed panting, he looked around to see he was in his room and blinked trying to focus, he then remembered what he dreamt about and quickly got out of bed and ran to Fluttershy’s room and knocked on the door.

“Fluttershy? I need to tell you something!” He called out.

When he received no response he opened the door to find her room empty, the bed was neatly made and looked as if no one had disturbed it. He left the room and headed downstairs to see if she was up still, he searched in all the rooms unable to find her. Scratching his head on confusion he caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye a note on the coffee table addressed to him, curiously he picked it up.

If you wake up and I’m still not here, I’m over at Twilight’s house. I needed to speak to her urgently,

Fluttershy xo.’

Discord smiled and headed upstairs and quickly got changed, he wasn’t going to wait a minute longer and took off out of the house straight for Twilight’s, as he quickly strode through the town he failed to notice someone watching him from a darkened window then slip out of the house and follow him.

“…And that’s what happened…I hope you know I’m speaking the truth, we both are.”

Celestia let out a sigh as she finished explaining to Fluttershy her side as to what happened to Discord, at first Fluttershy had been angry for her going along with her father’s plan but had slowly come to understand Celestia’s pain in the whole affair, understanding that it was a mistake she had truly regretted making.

The room was quiet again as Celestia waited for Fluttershy to respond, Twilight came downstairs when she heard the silence and had made the three some tea, after a while Fluttershy finally responded.

“…I’m still angry for what you did and I don’t know if I can forgive you now…” she started. “But I believe you that you truly regret it and didn’t want it to go down as it did.”

Celestia smiled as tears formed in her eyes, she went to hug Fluttershy but hesitated, Fluttershy pulled her into a hug as Celestia sniffled clinging to her gently.

“Thank you Fluttershy…”

Twilight smiled as she watched the two hug, Celestia broke the hug and sniffed as she stood up.

“I must go now…thank you for listening to me Fluttershy, and good luck with your task.” She smiled to her.

Fluttershy smiled back as the room was filled with another burst of light as Celestia disappeared from the library. Twilight stood up and smiled to Fluttershy.

“I’m glad everything was sorted out.” She said.

“As am I.” Fluttershy replied.

“You know, I think this will work. His re-formation that is.” Twilight suddenly said.

“You really think so?”

“Well yes, you’re making good progress and I think Discord hasn’t even realised what’s been going on.” Twilight giggled.

“What do you mean going on?” Fluttershy asked her.

“That you know, your feelings for him is the prime reason why this is going so well.” Twilight giggled again.

Fluttershy blushed and rubbed her arm, she looked away with a smile on her face.

“I still haven’t told him yet…”

“Well shouldn’t you go and fix that? Right now?” Twilight grinned at her.

“B-but I couldn’t I mean he’s still asleep!” Fluttershy said.

“And? Go wake him up, or do I have to get Pinkie Pie to make you do it.” Twilight said with a smirk.

Fluttershy’s eyes widened in panic, she wanted to tell Discord but wanted to tell him herself and not through someone else.

“Ok Twilight…I’ll do it, thanks for your help tonight.” Fluttershy said as she opened the door.

“It’s what friends are for, good night!” She said with a wink.

Fluttershy smiled again with a blush as she closed the door and began her walk back to her home.

As Discord reached the door he heard the sound of voices, one he recognised as Celestia, quietly he crept to the door and tried to hear what was going on, he couldn’t make out everything and tried his best to hear.

“…I hope you know I’m speaking the truth…” He heard Celestia say.

“…I can forgive you…” Fluttershy replied.

Discord blinked, what was she forgiving Celestia for? Was she talking about…no…they wouldn’t…Fluttershy wouldn’t do that to him, he tried again to listen as the voices continued.

“I must go now…good luck with your task.” He heard Celestia say again.

Task what task? His re-formation? There was a sudden bright light that leaked from under the door and windows; he understood Celestia had now gone.

“…I think this will work…” He recognised the voice as Twilight’s.

“…You really think so?”

“…You’re making good progress and I think Discord hasn’t even realised what’s been going on….”

As Twilight giggled Discord’s heart sank as he took a few steps back; his body went numb as a voice whispered in his head.

“I told you she didn’t care about you…this is all a trick!”

“No…she wouldn’t” He whispered.

“Yes Discord she would…she lied to you, just like Celestia did. She never cared about you no one did! The only one who does care is you!” Chaos continued in his head.

Discord felt his body burning up in anger; he had been played for the fool. Why would Fluttershy care for him? After all Celestia must have been feeding her lies about him, about his kind all along!

He growled lightly and snapped his fingers disappearing and reappearing in his room, just moments before Fluttershy opened the door. As she walked back to her house smiling and humming a soft tune, the person that had followed Discord watched her leave before darting off and making for the Everfree forest.

Discord appeared in his room and clenched his fists, his breathing became quicker and quicker and he roared out in anger grabbing the nearest thing which was the dresser and throwing it violently into the wall, shattering it on impact. He let out another cry of anger as he threw the chair into the wall which also shattered instantly, he could feel tears forming in his eyes and he began to cry as he fell to his knees holding his head.

“I tried to tell you, but you refused to listen to me.” Chaos chuckled.

Discord looked up to see the mirror in his room with the image of Chaos looking back at him smirking; he got to his feet and growled at him.

“Bite me.”

“Oh come now there’s no need for that? After all who is the one who looks out for us? The one who always has.” Chaos chuckled. “Me…”

“That’s…true.”

“Think about it Discord, all this time you’ve been alone. Your friends aren’t really your friends, there just part of this plan to get us to become good! And you were played for a fool by that bitch Fluttershy!”

“S-shut up!” Discord shouted.

“YOU KNOW I AM SPEAKING THE TRUTH DISCORD! WAKE THE FUCK UP AND REALISE IT!”

“SHUT UP!”

Discord slammed his fist into the mirror shattering it, he panted as he looked at where the mirror once was as blood trickled down his hand and onto the ground. He fell to his knees and began to sob, Chaos was right. He had been played for again; he felt something stir within him. Like the anger he felt when he was betrayed by Celestia to Terra all those years ago but greater, he growled and began to breathe heavily as his eyes flickered between his ice blue eyes that he used as his disguise to his chaotic red and yellow eyes, he roared in pain as his wings sprouted from his back and his horns appeared thrashing violently as he struggled to keep control.

Fluttershy was almost to her house when she heard the roar, the ground shook and she quickly ran to the door and opened it to see what was going on and gasped at what she saw. Discord sat in the living room, what was left of it. The majority of furniture had been destroyed or damaged as he sat there looking to the floor, she noticed his horns and his low growling.

“D-Discord…are you ok what happened?”

Discord didn’t reply, he slowly rose up and then raised his head, she gasped again her eyes widening in fear as she saw his eyes.

“No…I’m not ok, I don’t really like it when I’m fucking played for a fool!” He replied with a snarl.

“W-what do you mean?” she asked slightly scared.

“I fucking heard your little talk with that bitch Celestia and Twilight; I heard how all of this is just a fucking ploy to get me to reform!”

Fluttershy backed against the wall getting more terrified by the second.

“You think I don’t have feelings?! YOU USED ME! USED ME FOR CELESTIA’S FUCKING SELFISH NEEDS!”

“N-no Discord please!” Fluttershy begged.

“I AM NOT GOING TO FALL FOR IT AGAIN! CELESTIA MAY HAVE TRICKED ME BEFORE AND CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD BUT THIS TIME I WON’T BE TAKEN DOWN SO EASILY!” He roared.

Fluttershy felt tears build up as she fled the house as quickly as she could sobbing as she ran, Discord started to go after her in his fury but he was held back as he grabbed his head in pain.

“FIGHT IT DISCORD!” He heard Silver shout in his mind. “CALM YOUR ANGER!”

“DON’T LISTEN TO HIM! UNLEASH YOUR HATRED, IT WILL DESTROY THE RING!” Chaos shouted back

Discord roared in pain that shook the whole house as he fell on his back crying out, his horns receded into his head as his wings receded into his body, he panted as he struggled to his knees and knelt there. The house was silent for what seemed like an eternity as he simply knelt there, looking down as tears rolled down his cheeks.

“What in Celestia’s name happened. Where’s Fluttershy!?” Twilight cried.

Discord looked up to see Twilight, Pinkie, Rarity, Rainbow and Applejack standing there in the house a look of disbelief and confusion on their faces, they had all heard the rumble and . Discord growled as he stood up his eyes flickering again along with his horns and wings.

“GET OUT! YOU THINK YOU CAN FUCKING TRICK ME? GETTING FLUTTERSHY TO PRETEND SHE IS IN LOVE WITH ME JUST TO REFORM ME?!” he roared out at them.

“What are you talking about Discord? Fluttershy loves you!” Twilight replied.

“She does darling what are you on about?!” Rarity added.

“I FUCKING HEARD YOU TWILIGHT; I HEARD YOU AND FLUTTERSHY TALKING TO CELESTIA ABOUT YOUR PLAN!”
“What plan?! Please Discord calm down!” Twilight pleaded.

“ENOUGH!” He bellowed.

The girls took a step back in fear as the sound of cracking echoed through the room, the ring on Discord’s finger strained as his anger soared again.”

“IF CELESTIA WANTS TO PLAY DIRTY THEN SO WILL-“

He was interrupted as a book slammed into his face; he growled and looked down to see Angel glaring back at him.

“Why you-“

Again he was interrupted as Angel smacked him with another book, this time though he opened it up and tapped his paw against it rapidly. Discord picked it up and read the text, his eyes widened as his horns and wings began to recede again, as he kept flicking through the book his eyes returned to normal and he stumbled back dropping the book his hands shaking.

“Discord what’s wrong?” Pinkie asked.

“She wasn’t lying….” He muttered. “It was true…”

Rainbow picked up the book and began to read it, she turned to the others.

“It’s Fluttershy’s diary.”

Discord stared at the floor wide eyed; the entries had begun over two years ago. Right when he first broke out of his stone prison, all of the entries, the ones that were bout him detailed Fluttershy’s attraction to him as she came to the conclusion she was in love with him and wanted to be with him. Everything she had done for him in the past six months was genuine, she truly was in love with him and he had made a huge mistake. He realised that when he heard the conversation earlier, Chaos was manipulating his mind into thinking the worst had happened.

“What have I done…?” He whispered.

He stood up and pushed past the girls running outside, the all followed him slightly confused as to what was going on.

“FLUTTERSHY!?” He shouted.

“Discord, what in the hay is going on?!” Applejack asked him.

He panted as he turned to them with a look of fear and worry on his face, tears formed in his eyes.

“I’ve made a huge mistake…”

Fluttershy ran and ran, her tears flowing down her cheeks as she sobbed hard. She didn’t know what went wrong, why Discord was acting like he did. It was if he was possessed or something, she kept running until she was a fair way into the Everfree forest, she didn’t care where she was she just needed to be alone to think.

She leant against a tree and slid down to the floor pulling her knees up and buried her face in her hands as she wept, she failed to hear the rustles coming closer as she sobbed.

“Are you ok?”

She looked up with a gasp, recognising the voice. She saw Caramel standing there looking concerned.

“O-oh I-it’s you Caramel…I-I’m fine.” She replied with a sniff.

“You sure? You don’t look it.” He said as he came closer.

“I-It’s nothing….what are y-you doing out here?” She asked.

“Oh you know, this and that.” He replied. “I was actually following you.”

“W-why?”

“Because I’ve come to kidnap you.” He replied with a smirk.

As soon as he said that, three figures emerged from behind him, one was Baritone and the other was a male she didn’t recognise, they all were smirking at her.

“B-But why?” She whispered as she rose up pressing herself against the tree.

“Because…our Queen demands it…you are the bait for her plan to use the powers of chaos to take over Equestria.” Caramel replied.

Fluttershy’s eyes widened as all three glowed a dull green and changed form, they all had dark black skin and matching hair and features, she recognised them instantly for what they were.

“Now come along Fluttershy.” The one who was caramel said with a buzz in his voice. “We mustn’t keep Queen Chrysalis waiting…”
