Chapter XVII – The Ultimate Sacrifice for Love

“Ok girls we’re ready!” Rarity said behind Fluttershy’s bedroom door.

Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Pinkie Pie were sitting in Fluttershy’s living room waiting for her, she and Rarity had been in her bedroom for the past twenty minutes getting ready. It would have been quicker but Rarity kept bawling her eyes out every two minutes from joy.

“Bout time Rarity!” Applejack said.

They all stood up watching the stairs, Applejack and Rainbow fiddling with their dresses not used to wearing them. They all gasped as Rarity came to the bottom of the stairs and motioned to Fluttershy who soon joined her.

“Fluttershy…you look so beautiful!” Twilight smiled.

Fluttershy blushed softly as she stepped into view; she was wearing a tight fitting strapless snow white dress, the train flowing behind her. In her hand was a small bouquet of white lilies, her hair its usual straightness with the tips curled upwards. Pinkie’s lip quivered as her eyes watered up happily, Rainbow grinned and rose up the camera and took a photo with it. Rarity soon following Pinkie as she burst into heavy sobs as Applejack sighed and shook her head.

“I-I can’t help it! She looks beautiful in that dress.” Rarity cried.

Applejack would have argued had it not been the truth; Fluttershy really did look amazing in her wedding gown. She smiled as Twilight handed Pinkie a tissue into which she blew her nose.

“I just can’t believe it’s been a year already…” Twilight smiled.

“I still can’t believe Fluttershy’s getting married, to Discord of all people.” Rainbow chuckled.

“Yeah, and before Rarity.” Applejack added.

They all giggled as Rarity shot them all a glare and crossed her arms, turning her nose up in a huff.

“I’m just waiting for the right person!” She said.

Their giggles were interrupted by a knock on the door; Twilight opened it to reveal Shining Armour waiting for them with a grin.

“Hey Twily, Fluttershy’s carriage is here.”

“A c-carriage, I can walk it’s really no trouble…” Fluttershy squeaked.

“Oh no, it’s your big day and there is no way in Tartarus I’m let you walk that distance in that dress!” Rarity said in protest, pushing Fluttershy gently to the door.

As the all headed out of the house one by one, Twilight couldn’t help but look a little bit sad. It was something that Fluttershy had said to her a few months back that was nagging her.

Twilight had taken Fluttershy aside from the group, she had just announced to them all that Discord had proposed to her over a candle lit meal that previous night and they were all ecstatic. Save for Twilight, she obviously was thrilled beyond belief for her friend but there was something she immediately remembered about Discord and needed to ask her a question.

“What’s the matter Twilight?” She asked.

“Fluttershy…I know your happy and all that but…are you sure? I mean…he’s immortal.” Twilight said.

“I know.” Fluttershy replied.

“And it doesn’t bother you that…you know…you’re going to grow old and he isn’t, and he will live on for thousands of years after you’ve…gone?”

“I thought long and hard about this Twilight…I don’t mind at all, as long as I can even share just one day with him…I’ll be ok.”

Twilight was left deep in thought as the girls began to converse with one another, Pinkie declaring the need for a party.

‘I know I should feel happy for her…’ Twilight thought to herself. ‘But I’m worried that she won’t be able to cope in later years…and I’m worried about Discord.’

“Twi you coming?” Rainbow called.

Twilight snapped out of her thoughts, pushing it to the back of her mind and leaving the house. The others had all clambered into a royal chariot which Princess Celestia and Luna themselves had personally requested pick them up, much to Fluttershy’s protests. She clambered into it as the door closed and Shining took a seat on the front and the enchanted chariot began to head off.

Discord was panicking; he paced back and forth trying to think if he had forgotten anything. For what seemed like the twelfth time checked to make sure he was wearing his correct outfit, it was a slim charcoal tuxedo with a snow white shirt, a dark blood red tie and black shoes. Sitting in a chair nearby was Caramel who was flicking through a magazine idly.

When the Changelings had been defeated the year previous, they found Baritone and Caramel in a coma like state inside two Changeling cocoon’s within Caramel’s basement. Even odder still was over the course of the few months that followed; Discord had become good friends with Baritone and Caramel if not occasionally pranking them along with Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie, or even both of them.

Leaning on the wall behind Caramel was Red Bartlett, happily eating a pear ignoring the frantic man of chaos and sitting on a chair opposite them was Big Mac, his eyes closed as he relaxed in the chair.

“Discord chill man, everything is going to be just fine.” Baritone said as he came out from the kitchen with a bottle of water.

“I can’t ‘chill’ it’s my bloody wedding day and I’m nervous! What if I mess up? What if I say the wrong lines what if?-“

“What if Celestia stripped naked and did the chicken dance?” Caramel interrupted. “It’s all just ‘ifs’, you’re a God Discord, everything will be fine. You’re marrying a beautiful woman who loves you and won’t care if you make a silly mistake anyway.”

“I suppose your right…” Discord said with a smile.

“Trust me Discord, you’ll be fine.” Big Mac said reassuringly.

“Besides, the only way you could truly fuck up is if you said the wrong name.” Red Smirked.

“Oh that would be priceless to see!” Baritone snickered.

“Oh yes…hilarious!” Discord sarcastically replied.

“Well, we better get a move on over to the church.” Red chuckled.

They all exited Caramel’s house making jokes about Discord messing up, which was making him grumpier and headed off towards the church. As they headed towards the church, Red dropped back slightly so he could talk to the other three without Discord overhearing them.

“Hey guys…there’s something that’s been bugging me…” He whispered to them.

“What’s that?” Baritone replied in a hushed voice.

“Discord’s immortal right? Meaning he can’t die from age.”

“Yeah…” Caramel replied.

“Does…he know that…you know…he’s going to outlive Fluttershy?” Red asked.

Caramel, Baritone and Big Mac looked at one another; they hadn’t actually given it much thought. They had forgotten that Discord could live for eternity and therefore would outlive Fluttershy several times over; a grim frown appeared on their faces.

“I wonder if Fluttershy knows?” Caramel asked.

“Know what?”

They looked up to see Discord standing there looking at them with a confused expression.

“That uhm…uh…” Caramel started.

“You are uhm…” Baritone added.

“A terrible dancer!” Red finished.

“Eeyup!” Big Mac said.

“Pfft, me a terrible dancer? I’m insulted Red.” Discord chuckled pretending to be hurt.

They all shared a laugh before carrying on towards the church, the four men giving each other concerned looks now and again.

The church was not as tightly packed as you would imagine, only those close to the bride and groom, as well as some exceptions, had been invited. In the front rows were Shining Armour and his wife Princess Cadence along with Princess Luna, Princess Celestia was standing up at the top of the isle conversing with Discord who was also standing there.

Several other members of the town were also present, chatting amongst themselves quietly waiting for the ceremony to begin. Big Mac was talking with Granny Smith who was sitting at the front, so she was able to see and hear everything whilst Caramel, Baritone and Red Bartlett were arguing quietly over who got to present the rings.

“So Discord…are you ready?” Celestia asked him quietly.

“Yes…I don’t think I have ever been more ready for anything.” He replied.

“Discord…you do know that even though this is a joyous occasion…you’re still going to outlive her for a long time, are you sure you can deal with that?” Celestia said concernedly.

“I’ve thought about that Princess, don’t worry I have a plan up my sleeve.” He said.

“And what plan is that?” Celestia said raising her eyebrow.

“You’ll see.” Discord replied sticking out his tongue.

“Yes I win!” Red cheered.

“Yeah yeah best two out of three.” Caramel muttered.

Discord and Celestia turned to see Caramel Baritone and Red huddled in a circle playing rock paper scissors, Discord sighed and rested his face in his hand and rubbed his eyes as Celestia giggled. He walked over to them and raised his brow, crossing his arms.

“What are you three doing?”

“Deciding who gets to hold the rings for you bud.” Baritone replied.

“Is that so?”

“Yeah, and so far Red’s winning.” Caramel grumbled.

“Well…I’m afraid it’s not going to be you Caramel.” Discord said.

Baritone and Red gave a silent fist pump as Caramel looked at Discord in disbelief.

“But…but.”

“In fact neither of you are, Big Mac’s going to be holding them.”

They three stared at him as Big Mac appeared behind them, holding a pillow that hand the two rings on it. He gave them a smirk as Discord returned back to where Celestia was followed by the four.

The crowd died down as the music began to play, the all looked down the aisle to the door of the church, the Cutie Mark Crusaders who were wearing matching white dresses and carrying small baskets that contained flower petals were the first to enter, tossing the petals as they slowly made their way forwards. Behind them followed the bride and the bridesmaids, some people gasped as Fluttershy entered the church, she had Rainbow and Applejack linking her arms with theirs as Twilight and Rarity followed close behind and Pinkie holding the train of her dress up.

Discord’s grin grew bigger and bigger as he watched her walk down the aisle slowly, she smiled back at him with a blush. As they came closer, the Cutie Mark Crusaders took their seats next to Granny Smith as Fluttershy stood beside Discord, looking into each other’s eyes for a moment before turning to face Celestia. Twilight and the other girls took their places beside Fluttershy opposite form where Discord’s best men were standing as Celestia began.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we are gathered here today on this beautiful day to celebrate the union of the Element of Kindness, Fluttershy, and the God of Chaos Discord.”

She paused as a chuckle filled the room from everyone, including Discord. Celestia chuckled herself, saying something she thought she may never of said before continuing.

“The bond these two individuals share is clear to us all, although different in so many ways. Their love for one another is pure and true, before the bride and groom speak their vows. They both have requested that they each say a special message to one another. Fluttershy, would you like to start off?”

Fluttershy smiled and nodded before turning to Discord, she took his hands and blushed softly looking up into his eyes.
“Discord, when we first met…Everyone was against you, thinking you were nothing more than just an embodiment of chaotic evil, even though you used your powers on me and my friends something about you struck me differently. Even after you were imprisoned in stone a second time I couldn’t stop thinking about you, eventually I came to the conclusion that…I love you. And every day from there after I regretted ever being a part of turning you into stone because I thought that if one person, just one…was able to get to know you then people could accept you.”

She paused as the room filled with a mixture of ‘awws’ and camera flashes, Rarity dabbed her eyes with a tissue as she and the others watched with smiles on their faces.

“When you opened up to me about what happened in your past I truly knew there and then, you were never truly evil. And I would be willing to do anything to protect you against anything bad that could happen to you…Discord…I love you.” She finished her own eyes watering.

Discord smiled down at her, his eyes watering up as Celestia turned to him and smiled.

“Discord, would you like to speak?”

Discord nodded to her and turned his attention to Fluttershy, he gently stroked her hand before chuckling.

“Bet no one ever thought they see this day huh?” He said, looking out to the crowd.

The room was filled with chuckles as Discord smiled and returned to look at her.

“But in all seriousness Fluttershy, I have been alive for thousands of years…granted a fair amount of it was in stone but still hundreds of years.”

Again the room filled with chuckles.

“Before…I fell into chaos and anger because there wasn’t much going for me in life, I was treated different because of my race and was shunned by nearly everyone. Because of that anger, I believed that I was truly despised and could never be truly happy, costing me the love and friendship of the first person who ever saw me differently.”

Celestia smiled as Discord nodded to her.

“When I broke free, I was determined not to let myself be fooled by false feelings and trust. But even I have to admit when I battled against you and your friends, you were the hardest to beat, something about you made the chaotic magic inside of me unstable with how you managed to resist me. When we spent those six months together, I felt a confliction within me which was always about you and how I felt about you. I tried to tell myself it was just a phase or a ploy by Celestia and the Elements to get me to reform, but it was always there. This feeling of doubt that you would ever hurt me.”

He paused and looked down ashamedly.

“Even when I lost my temper and accused you of all sorts when I misheard that conversation with Celestia, you never stopped believing in me. When you disappeared I thought the worst had happened and I was scared for your life, when the Changelings had captured you I was willing to do anything within my power to make sure you were safe. Even if it meant giving myself to them…It had been a long time since I had felt like that….felt like I truly loved someone and was loved back…Fluttershy, I love you with all my heart.”

The crowd made sounds of ‘awing’ once more as Pinkie took Rarity’s tissue and blew into it, Celestia was about to continue but Discord raised his hand up stopping her.

“Before we make it official…I have one last gift I can give to you…to truly show I want to be with you forever…”

He slowly smiled softly as Fluttershy looked at him in confusion.

“Fluttershy…In front of everyone here today as a witness…I willingly surrender my immortality, so I can live a mortal’s life with you.”

There was a loud collective gasp from everyone in the room including the Princesses; it was indeed possible to take away a power like immortality but only if the person was willing. The gasps turned into hushed chatter as Fluttershy stared into his eyes. He smiled down at her as her eyes began to water up and her lip quivered, trying to truly comprehend what she just heard him say.

“Discord…do you truly wish that?” Celestia asked.

“Yes…I do.” He replied with a smile.

Celestia smiled and nodded.

“Then so be it.” She said with a smile.

The room watched as her horn glowed and Discord began to glow a pure white, Discord then closed his eyes as he disappeared in a blinding light that caused everyone to shield their eyes. As the light died down, Discord stood there smiling down at Fluttershy.

“Discord…I do not think there is now a single doubt that you truly love Fluttershy.” Celestia said smiling. “And I doubt there is anyone here who sees a reason to not marry these two.”

The room was silent, no one speaking up at all as they all watched with smiles on their faces.

“Can we have the rings please?”

Big Mac presented the rings to Discord and Fluttershy who slipped them onto each other’s fingers as Celestia continued.

“And now…by the power of the Sun-“

“And Moon!” Luna interrupted grinning causing more chuckles.”

“And the Moon.” Celestia giggled. “I pronounce you…husband and wife, you may kiss the bride.”

The room burst into loud cheers as Discord and Fluttershy locked lips together, his arms wrapping around her waist and hers around his neck. Twilight, Rarity and Pinkie began to cry tears of joy as Applejack whooped and cheered, Rainbow secretly wiping away a few tears.

The rest of the evening went on with no trouble, the party was hosted in the town hall and naturally planned by Pinkie Pie and was a big success. The alcohol was provided and served by Berry Punch who insisted on sampling every drink at least once, just to make sure it was up to good standards. The music was provided by both the Royal Canterlot Orchestra as well as Dj-Pon3, Fluttershy and Discord shared the first dance together enjoying each other’s embrace as the crowd watched.

Soon everyone was dancing; Discord was encircled by the Elements as they all began to dance like mad men to Dj-Pon3’s music. Celestia and Luna were giggling like mad as they danced together, each having a little too much to drink themselves. It had gotten the combined efforts of Twilight and Cadence to get Shining Armour to relax and have a drink and they now saw why it was a bad idea, albeit a funny one.

Shining was trying to dance to the music but only seemed to be flailing his limbs like he was in the middle of a fit, singing along badly to the lyrics as his wife and sister watched in absolute hysterics.

The evening came to an end as Fluttershy and Discord left the town hall, being pelted with more confetti and rice. They got into the chariot that awaited them and were soon heading off into the distance, Fluttershy leaned into Discord who wrapped his arms around her and held her close, a smile on both of their faces.

“Fluttershy?”

“Yes Discord?”

“I’m glad that you’re my wife…” He said softly to her.

“And I’m glad you’re my husband…” She replied softly.

They both kissed each other deeply on the lips as the chariot disappeared into the distance, taking the two newlyweds into the night and onto their future together.
