MLP fanfic Pt.5

I opened my eyes and saw that Pinkie was crying. She held her head in her hooves, her flattened mane cascading down and covering her face. I put my guitar to the side, ran forward and hugged her. I wasn't sure what else to do, but this seemed to be enough. She flung her hooves around my neck and sobbed into my shoulder.

We stayed like that for almost an hour. Blue Moon decided to step out and leave us alone after about tone minutes, saying she had to buy some groceries anyway. The sound of a door opening caught my attention and I looked up to see Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo stood there, an electric guitar strung across Scootaloo's back. They stood there, staring. I put a hoof to my lips, signalling them to be quiet. They all nodded, Apple Bloom closing the door softly as they came in and sat down.

"R-Rifty?" Pinkie sobbed, calming down slightly.

"Yeah, Pinkie?"

"Can I tell you a secret?" I looked at the girls, but they were already making their way outside. Smiling softly, I returned my attention to Pinkie Pie.

"Sure Pinkie. I won't tell anyone."

"Pinkie Promise?"

I looked down at her, confused. She must have remembered I had no idea what she was talking about, because she recited it for me.

"Cross my heart..." She said, drawing a cross on her chest with a hoof. I copied her, repeating her words.

"Hope to fly..." She accentuated this with a small flutter of her forelegs. Once again I copied the action and repeated the words.

"Stick a cupcake in my eye." She finished, covering her left eye with her hoof. I finished the routine myself and assured her that I would never tell another living soul.

"When I was little..." She began. " my sisters, Inkie and Blinkie, never really liked me. They always called me a freak because I was born pink." I frowned. What does your fur colour have to do with anything?

"It's because both my parents were dull colours." She explained. "My mom was slate grey while my dad was a baby-barf green. She had a black mane, he had white. Both my sisters were grey."

"Pinkie, you're sisters were just being jerks." I spat. She looked at me, shocked, and I smirked at her. "I said WERE. I don't know if they've changed."

"They have. Anyway, my brother was the only one who stood by me. Probably because he was a different colour too."

"What colour was he?" This was getting me worried. I don't know why, but I've always had a sense for bombshells. Fictional or… weaponry.

"White. As snow. With a golden blonde mane." She sniffled, and I was afraid she'd break down again. Luckily she didn't.

"Another odd thing about him was that, although our entire family is Earth Ponies, he was born a Pegasus. Can you imagine the look on my Grandpa's face?"

"Pinkie, both my parents are Earth Ponies AND biggots. And their two kids were born a Pegasus and a Unicorn. They practically threw us into our grandparents hooves within half a second of us being born." I smiled at her and, thankfully, she giggled a little.

"Well, my Dad kept Berryswainer around for those harder-to-reach chores, like fixing the barn roof." I raised an eyebrow at this. "Oh, my parents are rock farmers."

"Ah."

"Yeah. NOT fun." We shared a laugh at this. "Berry was strong. He could pretty much lift a boulder and fly it across the farm. Unfortunately, he wasn't very f-fast."

I caught her hesitation and pulled her into another hug.

"T-there was an avalanche, Thunder Rift. Berry and I had been s-sent to collect some m-more rocks to g-grow the gems in. We went f-farther than we were a-allowed. I-I sneezed a-and…"

I sat silently. Damn it, why can I never be wrong about bombshells!

"H-he died, Rifty. He th-threw me as far a-as he could, and was c-crushed. It's all m-my fault!"

She broke down, once again crying into my shoulder. I looked to the door as I heard it open again and saw the CMC peek their heads in, their eyes asking of it was ok to come in. I nodded solemnly.

"I-it was his dream to be a professional song writer. That was one of his. Dad already sold the rights to Neighly, but I have his old songbook. C-could you maybe…?"

"Pinkie Pie, it would be an honour to perform your brothers songs."
