When I was younger and more sane, I strived to be my best and more loved by others. Back then, I was the odd princess, the one who had to catch up, the one with no love and attention. my older sister Celestia overtook my needed attention. Everyone loved her. My father was the only caring pony I knew then. My mother loved Celestia more than anything. I yearned for her love and never got it. but one unfortunate day, the worst happened.

I was sitting next to my father reading a bed time story in front of the fireplace when Celestia runs in the door. “father, there’s someone here to see you”.

“to see me now? Did they give their name?”

“oh… no, they didn't. they just asked for you, alone”

“alone? well then. Luna, I’ll come back after I am done with this person and their business. I’ll be back first thing!” he walks out the door. A guard asks to follow him but he declines it.

Celestia walks over and sits down with me. She starts reading the book and gets me into bed and tucks me in. then she goes over to her bed and goes to sleep also. I wonder why she suddenly cared for me. It was like she knew that something bad was going to happen.

A sound of a gun shot rings through the air. “FATHER? FATHER, ARE YOU ALRIGHT?” I run out of bed.

“Luna! Get back into- what, where are you going!?” Celestia shouts.

Mother runs out of her room. “what was that?” she asks.

“a gun shot! Father is out there!” I shout.

“he is out there? Get back into bed children, I will sort this out.”

I stare at Mother. My father, the caring, compassionate one was out there, and this might have been my last time with him. She looks into my eyes, and through the gold, I can see that she knows what will happen next. I trust her in this, she is our mother, after all.

“please, go back to your bedroom and lock the door. This might get a little out of hand.” she says, lightly kissing me on the head.

She turns and walks down the hall. “goodnight, dear”

I was dumbfounded and willing to help. She left without saying anything else, and I slowly walk back to my room, Celestia poking her head out. Her pink mane didn't exactly stand out against the dark room, but it made me rethink of the many sunrises my family went to.

Back then, I didn't have full control over the moon. I depended on my father a lot for that. I look out one of the large windows, and out onto the moon. It was just as beautiful, but it was golden orange. It was like a hot butter knife down my dry throat. That only happened when either me or my father were ill, or even worse, dead, and the golden glow made streaks across my vision, whirling into a sight of my mother’s eyes.

BANG! BANG!

A wail comes from outside, and we both gasp.

Celestia quickly puts her wing around me and hustles me into another room down the corridor. It had a steel door, and was the quarters of the guards. We hid there for days.

Most of the outside guards could not see in the dark. They never found my parents, nor the murderer. They were not able to… yet.

A week had passed, and nothing happened.

Nothing happened other than the constant smashing and bashing of the guard’s lockers, and the squeaking of the beds and windows.

The room was mostly bare white, nothing to see. The only warmth we got was from the sun Celestia only managed to pull up every day.

The moon and stars, however, were very hard to lift. Celestia, half of the dark magic kingdom ponies and I had struggled to pull it up. The dark magic ponies were outcasts to our subjects, and were shunned every time they were sighted. They lived in small communities, and I had one for a great friend. His name was Sombra Shadow, a young prince of the dark magic kingdom. He wore no armor, just his grey coat and his red eyes. His father was sick, and his mother was barely even around. We would talk and play with each other for hours on end.

Celestia wasn't so sure about him and the others. She kept telling me, and telling me, never ending about what they could do to me, never stopping, just droning on like mother did about them.

“They are evil beings, and they are planning attacks on us, like we have our backs turned! Your little friend is next in line to be their king! He will betray you and defeat us all! They will take us over, and use us!” she would say, before I went outside to play with him. Sombra looked back at her with an angered face after I came out, because he knew what she was talking about.

“I would never turn on you. You are my best friend! You know me so well and enjoy my ways and my kingdom!” he says to me after.

“I always will. You know my night better than any pony else.” I would answer. “always”
