First stop in Chrysalis' mission: Sweet Apple Acres.
A Farm Full of Honesty
Morning has come to the neighborhood. Still dressed in her nightgown, Chrysalis enjoyed some toast and coffee as she studies the pictures and information about the Humane Seven.
"Six of these girls are just like their pony counterparts in Equestria." Chrysalis said to herself. "Who'd thought though that Sunset Shimmer actually comes from there. I can't wait to hear her story."
After taking another sip of coffee, she made her first choice. "I think I'll start with Applejack. This farm girl and her family might be like her pony counterpart's Element of Harmony. The Element of Honesty."
Later, after washing her dishes, she went to her bedroom and changed. She comes out wearing a light teal shirt, blue bib overalls, and brown boots.
"I'm glad those sisters next door provided me with extra clothes." Chrysalis said with relief. "I can use all the support I can get."
Later, Chrysalis was dropped off in front of the entrance of Sweet Apple Acres.
"Thanks for the lift, Luna." Chrysalis called out as Luna leaves the scene.
Looking at Sweet Apple Acres, the former changeling queen is amazed by the environment. The red barn, the orchard of apple trees, they are a sight to behold. Chrysalis was told that the girls were informed of her, and will try to help her with her visit.
"Howdy!" Applejack called as she comes from the barn. "Glad you can make it."
"Hello, Applejack." Chrysalis said nervously. "I'm still unsure about this mess I got myself into."
"Nothing to worry about, Miss Chrysalis. Me and my friends will help ya. I'm curious though. How come you started with me?"
"I figure to take this one part at a time. I decided my first test is honesty. Which, I believe is what you and your family is all about."
"Yup. That's right. And, we'll be happy to help you out. I hope you don't mind a little farm work."
"Where I came from, I was royalty. Bad royalty, unfortunately. But, I'll do what I can to let go of my dark past."
"That's the spirit. Come on. Let me show you where to put your stuff. Then, I'll show you what needs doin'."
After settling in, Chrysalis finds herself lifting hay bales to the barn where Big Mac is waiting. After attaching a hook to a bale, she signals Big Mac to pull it up. Applejack comes back with a cooler.
"Not bad so far, Sugarcube." Applejack praised. "How's about a break for lunch?"
"After a couple of hours of this farm work," Chrysalis replied, "I sure worked up an appetite."
The two ladies enjoyed the sandwiches and bottled water, and each other.
"You folks work hard around here. Don't you?" Chrysalis wondered.
"Yes, ma'am." Applejack replied. "Many people in Canterlot appreciate the work we do. You should see us during harvest season. That's when we really get busy."
"I can believe that."
As Chrysalis took a sip of her water, Big Mac walks by and pays her on the shoulder. "Thanks for your help, ma'am."
Chrysalis soon blushed after being praised. "Aw. You're welcome, pardner."
Later, after lunch was done, Chrysalis started to spread feed for the chickens to gather and eat. She watched the bird pecking on the food, and couldn't help but giggle. Suddenly, she saw Apple Bloom walk around with tears in her eyes. This got the visitor concerned.
"What's the matter, Apple Bloom?" Chrysalis asked.
"I was just doin' one of my barefoot walks along the farm," Apple Bloom answered, "when that meanie, Garble, showed up."
Apple Bloom soon kneeled and started to cry. Chrysalis got worried. She saw a rope on a pile of boxes and went over to grab it. When Applejack arrived, she saw Chrysalis wrap the rope around Apple Bloom. This got her concerned.
"Hey, Chrysalis!" Applejack called out. "How come you're tying up Apple Bloom?"
"The poor dear got harrased by some bully." Chrysalis answered. "Seeing she's so upset, I had to make sure she doesn't hurt herself."
Applejack understood the meaning of what Chrysalis was doing. "If I saw Apple Bloom so rattled, I'd do the same thing."
Apple Bloom looked at her sister, and panicked again. "I'm sorry for my panic attack, Applejack. Garble did it to me again!"
"I should've known Garble was up to his old tricks." Applejack grumbled.
"Don't worry, sis. I'm here for you."
Applejack hugged her sister calmly. Chrysalis couldn't help but admire their togetherness. Later, Chrysalis finished drying off from taking a shower. After putting her clothes back on, she went down to the kitchen table. She joined the Apple Family for a wholesome meal.
"You and the Apple Sisters do well with the this food, Granny Smith." Chrysalis praised as she took a bite of mashed potatoes. "My compliments to the chef."
"I'm glad you like my cookin'." Granny replied. "Like you said, Applejack and Apple Bloom help me out quite a bit."
Chrysalis looked at Apple Bloom with concern. "How are you feeling, Apple Bloom?"
"I feel a bit better." Apple Bloom replied. "If my sister didn't tell ya, I often get restrained after a nervous breakdown. One time, her friend, Rarity, whipped up a straitjacket to be my size."
"Straitjacket? Aren't those garments that are used in mental hospitals?"
"Eeyup." Big Mac answered. "We still got it handy in case of emergency."
The whole family chuckled knowing that Big Mac is right. Chrysalis felt the warmth from the Apple Family. Something she never felt back in Equestria.
Chrysalis soon finds herself sitting on a cot wearing a lime green sleep shirt given to her by Applejack.
"You did a good job helping out, Chrysalis." Applejack said proudly. "Granny is proud of ya."
"Thanks, Applejack." Chrysalis replied. "But, why did you want me to spend the night here? I would've been glad to get a ride back to where I'm staying."
"Well, it's getting late. And, you need to rest after working hard all day."
"Good point. I am kind of exhausted."
After getting on the cot, Chrysalis draped the blanket over and got comfortable. The girls turned off the lights and drifted off to sleep. That's one member of the Humane Seven she befriended. Six to go.
