A shadow dragon named Spiritus learns of the new Dragon Lord and goes on a quest to overthrow her by killing her. He ends up failing because he is killed by the Lumen Tenebrae, a weapon created by Starswirl, only for it to be defeated.

After getting her Cutie Mark, Apple Bloom's fellow Crusaders start to dissappear and Apple Bloom learns the truth about the two and what the CMC really was.

Twilight is told to make an alliance with the Canis Clan, a group of wolves from long ago. She learns about the Canis Clan through the Hidden Library's books while meeting another alicorn. It also talks about Starswirl's past with the Canis Clan.
