Going back to the map of the Crystal Mountains, Shining draws an ‘X’ by the circle already drawn on it. “This is where we last saw Captain Ray and his group. Tracking the griffons proved to be much easier than expected. Though even you could have found the trail, you were still glad to have Spitfire and Rainbow Dash with you. Coming across perhaps the sixth or seventh shallow cave a few hours later, Spitfire tells you to stop before you enter. “They just left here, maybe a few hours ago.” she says cautiously. After an hour of tracking you spot a group of moving figures in the distance. By the time you’re within listening distance to the griffons they reached yet another cave, and by the looks of it a small group had already gone inside while the rest waited outside the entrance. Spitfire and Rainbow Dash also spot him from their positions next to you and their instincts prove to be the same as yours.

“There’s only seven of them.” Spitfire points out. “This is our chance, we can kill him right now and end this war!”

“We can! All we need to do is distract the others. Then I can fly in and kill him. Princess Luna gave me another poisoned dagger, I just need to hit him once. Please.” she says, desperate to get her revenge.
A small prod on your other side causes you to turn to face Rainbow Dash. She just nods her head, agreeing with Spitfire that she wants to end this whole war now.
“Rainbow… you know we can’t.” you try to protest, but Rainbow looks at you right in the eyes.
“I spent Celestia knows how long as his prisoner, and he used me and let his entire guard force rape me.” she said. “I… I can’t let him live if I have the chance to end all of this now. You turn your attention back to the griffons. There’s still no sign of the rest of their group, and all of the griffons in front of you have their guard down. Even Captain Ray has put down his weapons and is casually going through his supplies. While you definitely don’t have the numbers on your side, you do have the element of surprise on your side, though you feel like there’s something out there that you can’t see. But like Spitfire said, all you have to do is kill Ray…

You take a deep breath as Spitfire and Rainbow Dash await your answer.
“We have to wait.” you say to their dismay.
“What?!” Spitfire hisses. “This… this is the perfect opportunity! Buck it, I’ll go alone if I have to. I can kill him before any of those scumbags even know I’m there!”
You shake your head. Something just doesn’t feel right. “No, just… just hold on. Please.” you plead.
Spitfire huffs and swears at you under her breath. Even Rainbow Dash moves away from you a little, severely disappointed by your decision. But you stay firm on your choice and continue to watch the griffons.
Almost an hour later the rest of the griffons emerge from the cave and one of them reports to Captain Ray. They talk for only a few moments before Ray signals for them to pack up and move into the cave. As the griffons collect their tools and supplies Ray reaches down by his chest and produces a small bone whistle attached to a string draped around his neck. He blasts three quick tweets into it and a large figure ascends into the sky from one of the mountains nearby. Both Spitfire and Rainbow Dash gasp in shock as they see a large dragon descend and land in front of Ray, but their hopes of seeing their tormentor killed by the ferocious reptile are crushed as the dragon begins speaking with Ray.
“We found what we were looking for. You’re not needed for over-watch anymore. Go over to the pony’s castle and make sure none of them leave the city for the next two days. Your debt is repaid after that.” Ray commanded.
Shockingly the dragon nodded and took off, headed for the Crystal Empire. Spitfire looked at you with terror and shock clearly in her eyes. “T-that was… he could have… if we…”
“Y-yeah.” you reply nervously, knowing exactly what she meant.
You feel Rainbow Dash move up against you for protection and feel a chill run down your spine as she speaks; “That’s the dragon who raped me.”
The pieces begin to fall into place once she confirms what you thought; Ray had the dragon watching from above, more than likely under orders to kill any ponies that followed the griffons. It was by pure chance that the dragon missed your small group while you searched for the griffons, but an attack on Ray’s group while they rested outside the caves would have certainly resulted in all your deaths. But now with the dragon gone from the area and the last griffon entering the cave, you determine that it is now safe enough to emerge from your hiding spot.
As you crawl forward you feel Spitfire place a hoof on your back. “Hey, look… I’m sorry about before.” she said meekly, knowing now that had she gone to attack Ray the dragon would have intercepted her before she could reach Ray.
“Don’t worry about it.” you reply. You continue forward with Spitfire and Dash following, making your way to the cave entrance. You sneak up on the mouth of the cave but it becomes quickly clear that Ray didn’t bother posting any guards. You figure that he either is overconfident that nopony would dare follow him or he’s too focused on finding Sombra’s horn. Whatever the reason, you find no evidence of any guards or traps, though you still take your time and move forward slowly.
After a few minutes of walking you see the tunnel open up into a large cavern. The large space seems more like a shrine as large banners sporting Sombra’s royal seal decorate the walls alongside carvings in the rock walls depicting some of the ex-king’s achievements. You don’t spend too long looking at the decorations as your attention is drawn to the far side of the cavern; you see the group of griffons once again splitting up into two groups and heading to two different exits. You have no idea where the two separate exits lead to, but by the sounds of their chatter neither do the griffons. You see Ray lead one group down the left tunnel while the other goes off to the right, once again leaving not a single guard behind to cover their backs.
Once the sounds of the two groups of griffons have died away you, Dash, and Spitfire emerge and enter the cavern. It is clear that Shining Armor was right; there are some crystal ponies who still secretly worship Sombra, and they made this makeshift temple to appease his spirit. Of course there’s no sign of those ponies anywhere, and you can only hope that they’re safely back in the Crystal Empire.
A quick search shows nothing of value to take, nor are there any signs of Sombra’s horn being here. “It must be farther down one of these routes.” you guess aloud. Looking at the two separate paths you see one is marked storage while the path Ray went down is heavily decorated, most likely leading to what he seeks. “It’s probably this way.” you say.
Just as you’re about to head down the pathway that Ray took, you look again at the path leading to the storage area. You note that the ceiling of the path has been heavily reinforced due to the ceiling being compiled of mostly loose rocks, but despite the strong supports it wouldn’t take much to cause a cave-in. Doing so would trap the griffons in there forever, causing them to live only as long as the unknown amount of supplies in there lasted them. But it would definitely be loud and alert Ray that something may be wrong.
Both Spitfire and Rainbow Dash see you eyeing the supports and guess the same thing you’re thinking. “You were right about not attacking Ray outside… it’s your choice.” Spitfire says submissively.

You shake your head. “It would cause too much noise and Ray will surely send some of his griffons back this way.” you say.
Spitfire and Rainbow Dash nod in understanding, and without any further words you lead them down the tunnel that Ray went down. Taking care where you step, you try your hardest to make no noise whatsoever as do the two mares following you. The pace is slow, though, and a few times the noise caused by your hoofsteps causes you to freeze in fear that one of the griffons may have heard you.
Eventually you make it to another cavern, this one almost as large as Celestia’s throne room. Of course Ray and his griffons have already reached the cavern way ahead of you, and as you, Spitfire, and Rainbow hide by the tunnel you just came down, you see that some of the griffons are wrestling with a heavy chest perched on an altar.
“Careful! If any of you damage it I will kill you!” Ray shouted at his griffons. They manage to wrench the chest free and fly it down to where Ray stands, and as soon as they place it in front of him he tries to open it. Of course the chest is locked, but without a second thought Ray punches his balled-up claw into the wood, and with three strikes he manages to punch a hole into the wood. Blood pours from his claw but he ignores the pain, reaching in and opening the chest from the inside. As he opens the lid a dark smoke begins to pour out from the chest, and some of the griffons begin to back away in fear. Ray, however, remains where he stands and reaches into the chest, smiling as he grasps something. Dramatically, he slowly brings his claw out and triumphantly holds up King Sombra’s horn.
“Hahahaha! Yes! It’s mine!” he shouts gleefully. The horn begins to glow and smoke begins to wrap around his injured claw. Staring in awe, you see that the smoke seems to be seeping into his wounds and healing them, and within another few seconds his claw is fully healed.
Ray lets out a triumphant laugh again. “With this power, I shall be immortal! There is no limit to what I can do, no limit to what lands I can conquer! I will kill any creature that stands in my way, starting with those pony princess whorses! Their subjects will be forced to watch me use them in every way possible before I have their heads cut off and mounted on my wall!”
You watch in horror as he brings the horn up to his head and places it against his forehead. The horn lets off an explosion of smoke that fills the entire cavern, and every creature except Ray can’t help but cough violently as smoke fills your lungs. All three of you stumble from the sudden smoke and a rock is knocked loose, catching Ray’s attention and he glares in your direction.
“Heh heh heh, it seems we have some visitors.” he says, feeling your presence more than seeing you. “Griffons! Capture those ponies!”
“Run!” you shout, your cover blown. You make sure Rainbow Dash and Spitfire run out first and you bring up the rear, and one glance back lets you know that the griffons are hot on your tail. You try to kick out at any loose rubble to try to slow down your attackers, but unlike the supply tunnel this one is sturdy. The most you manage to loosen is a few pebbles, but it doesn’t matter in the end as Dash and Rainbow come to a screeching halt. In front of them is the second half of Ray’s force, blocking the only exit. The original pursuers finally catch up and complete the trap.
“Get them!” one of the griffons shouts. You three try to put up a fight but of course you’re all quickly overwhelmed. There’s just too many of them and the tight space doesn’t allow for much movement, and within minutes you find yourself being dragged back into the cavern where Ray waits.
As the griffons throw you, Dash, and Spitfire in front of Captain Ray they keep their claws dug into your back, making sure none of you can fly up and try to escape. Ray calmly looks down at each of you, smiling evilly.
“Well, this is quite the surprise. My three favorite ponies all together. Too bad you didn’t bring the unicorn with you, I wasn’t done training her.” he said dryly.
“Let me go! Fight me like a real warrior, you coward!” Spitfire yelled out, spitting at Ray. Her spit hit Ray in the leg but he didn’t even flinch.
“Heh, ironic words. You want me to fight you? Well, here’s the thing… I’m a king now, and you’re nothing but a lowly little slut.”
Spitfire gritted her teeth and tensed up, trying to find a chance to escape from the griffon holding her down and attack Ray. However, the griffon on top of her sensed her muscles tensing up and his dug his claws into her spine and twisted it, causing Spitfire to scream out in pain.
Ray closed his eyes and smiled. “Ah, that’s the sound I’ve missed. Hmm, in fact, I’ve missed it a lot. To prove his point, he concentrated on the open chest and soon a bolt of lightning came streaking out of the tip of his horn. The chest took a direct hit and quickly crumpled into a pile of ashes. "S-STOP! Don't!" you shout at the top of your lungs. The dagger is pressed against Dash's throat, one more little bit of pressure needed to cut her. She looks at you with fear in her eyes and she tries to pull away from the deadly dagger, but the griffon holding her down prevents her from moving. With a quick slice he slits Rainbow's throat, not deep enough to cut her artery but still enough to ensure the poison coating the blade finds its way into her body.
Ignoring her own pain and the fact that she was bound, Spitfire launched herself at Ray in a surprise attack, but Ray reacts too quickly and buries the dagger straight into her chest and knocks her body aside. You watch in slow motion as Spitfire crumples to the ground and Ray tossed Rainbow Dash's body on top of hers, both of them rolling down the stone steps and coming to a rest just feet in front of you.
"Rainbow Dash! Spitfire!" you yell out. Ray nods to the griffon holding you down, and as soon as you feel the griffon release you from his grip you rush over to where the two mares lay crumpled and broken.
The fall caused the dagger to go deeper into Spitfire's body, and her body lies still, her chest not rising and falling as it should be. Her eyes are closed and a pained expression is forever frozen on her face, and from the amount of blood pooling on the ground it is safe to say that the knife found its way to her heart.
Rainbow is still breathing but barely. The poison was working its way through her body and her eyes were already becoming heavier and heavier. You cradle her head in your hooves and look down at her, a few tears falling down your face and dripping onto her cheek. "Rainbow, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." you say to her.
She smiles weakly at you. "It's okay, master, it doesn't hurt as much as the other things did."
You choke back a sob and hold her against you. You couldn't care less about her blood getting on your body, nor do you care that Ray and his minions are still all around you. Your world only consists of you and Rainbow Dash, and as you hear her breathing become raspier you lean in and kiss her one last time. Her soft lips against yours cause your mind to think of what could have been; settling down and living in peace with Rainbow Dash, helping her regain her old personality and confidence, tenderly loving her and taking care of her... but it was all now shattered hopes and dreams.
As you slowly draw back away from Dash's lips you hear one last ragged gasp escape her lips before she goes still. Her body goes limp as the poison finishes its work and claims its second victim of the day, leaving you as the lone survivor.
Ray walks up behind you and looks down upon you. "Hmph, you reap what you sow. And you can't reap anything if you don't take risks. But they're now free, they don't have to witness the horrors I shall unleash on the world." he says darkly before walking off to the exit. His griffons follow him wordlessly, leaving you alone in the cavern that was now a tomb. You don't move, unable to let go of Rainbow Dash's body, not even as you hear a loud rumbling noise far away. No doubt Ray has caused a cave-in somewhere and has now sealed you inside the new tomb, but you had no intention of leaving your two friends behind.
Going over to your saddle bags that had been tossed aside by the griffons, you retrieve the bandages you had packed and clean the wounds on Rainbow and Spitfire's bodies, taking care to treat them gently and setting aside the knife in Spitfire's body for now. Once their bodies have been cleaned up you carefully carry them up and place them on the alter where Sombra's horn once resided, taking care to gently fold their wings back in place against their bodies. Once you are finished you find yourself having trouble breathing as the air seems heavier and hotter. You know you don't have much time left, and you pick up the knife on the ground and ascend the alter one last time.
You kiss Spitfire's lips, asking her to forgive you and you're sorry that Soarin will never learn of what became of his marefriend. Turning to Rainbow, you kiss her cold lips one last time, staring at her closed eyes. "I love you, Rainbow Dash. I'll be with you soon." you say.
Taking your place on the floor in front of the alter you take a deep breath and use the knife to slice open your leg. The cut is not very deep but the burning pain caused by the poisoned blade causes you to grimace in pain. You can feel the burning sensation rapidly spreading up your leg and once it hits your chest you feel your heart beginning to beat faster. You start sweating and your head feels like it's spinning around, and as you begin to lose strength you collapse on the ground and close your eyes. You feel a cold sweep over your body and your thoughts begin to slow drastically, the last thing you think being of the two mares you will spend eternity with.

Well... that was a very close vote. The difference between this end and the other path(s) was a mere two votes. I was saddened to see this choice won, and I began to write a chapter giving a second chance to vote again, but I did promise that I wouldn't cheat and skew the planned outline I made.

Congratulations! You have just stepped into my dark, twisted world. Before we begin, my works are all (usually) intended for an adult audience. Things can and will get dark. You have been warned.
Now... if you haven't read the two prequels, GO READ THEM FIRST! This story will make little/no sense without reading them first. Start with this story first!
Then read this one! Once you have read both, this one will make much more sense... if it hasn't scared you away yet.
Here's how this will work; when a new chapter is uploaded, there will be a link to a poll at the bottom. The link will be active for roughly 3 days, and once time is up the winning choice will influence the next chapter. The story tree is already made, so there will be no 'cheating' on my part. (Aka the consequence of each choice is already made, thus I cannot suddenly make the story change direction to my own liking). There will be a mix of good and bad endings, but if you know me you should know that there MAY be slightly more bad endings than good ones. However, none of the choices will be secret story twists. There may be twists within the chapter, but none of the choices will be trick questions. (ex: choosing to go down a path marked 'exit' will not turn into 'HAHAHA it's really a dead end!).
One important warning... READ THE PREQUELS! Why am I stressing this so much? There MAY be a few choices that are influenced by prior chapters, and if you don't remember what happened in the prequels you will most likely make the wrong choice.
