A Granted Wish
"Young Orphan"
Previous ChapterNext ChapterFlying at high speed Rainbow Dash arrived at the orphanage. She landed on the ground and walked to the front entrance where she was greeted by a state member seated near a table with a big banner that read, “A Granted Wish.”
“How may I help you?” she asked with a smile, dragging her attention away from her paperwork and onto the cyan Pegasus.
Rainbow walked up to the Unicorn and looked around for any sign of a mare with a filly. “Yeah, I was supposed to meet a mare with a filly 'cuz I'm suppose to spend time with the kid,” Rainbow said.
The Unicorn went searching in the pile of paperwork laid on the table and took out a sheet of important looking paper, presumably the attendance sheet, out of the pile. She looked over the attendance sheet for a moment, then asked, "Is your name Ms. Rainbow D. Dash,"
Rainbow nodded, “The one and only!”
“Well the 'one and only' she's inside waiting for you.”
Not taking a moment to respond Rainbow rocketed through the doors sending them swinging back and forth repeatedly at high speed.
“Some mares,” she uttered under her breath, and got back to her paperwork.
Once inside, Dash went to the assistant’s desk. The mare behind the desk is none other thanPonyville's brightest mare, Twilight Sparkle. “Hey Twilight, what are you doing at an orphanage?" asked Dash, landing in front of the desk.
Twilight stopped doing her paper work and turned her attention to Rainbow. “Oh hi Rainbow, I work here every time this program opens.”
“Why? Don't you gotta worry about the library?”
“No, Spike always fills in for me until I come back.”
"Well anyways, I'm here to meet a mare by the name of Magic Summers, she has a filly for me that I'm supposed hang out with today."
“Oh, you mean the boss, hold on minute,” Twilight said, she went from behind the desk and into the halls of the orphanage.
Rainbow went to the couch in the waiting room and waited for Twilight to come back with the boss. Still feeling exhausted from the night shift, Dash quickly fell asleep on the soft couch.
“Wake up Ms. Dash!” shouted a mare.
“WHOA!” Rainbow jumped straight up then plummeted face down toward the floor, but she quickly recovered, catching herself in midair.
Standing in front of her was a see note muddy green mare with a blonde mane and a smiling grin as a cutie mark. “I can see you made yourself comfortable,” she said sarcastically.
Rainbow grunted and looked up and down, examining the mare to see if she looks like boss material.
“I take it you're Magic Summers?” Rainbow asked, the mare passing her unofficial test.
“Indeed I am,” she replied, extending her hoof
Rainbow Dash shook her hoof showing that she does, in fact, have manners and looked around for any signs of a small filly. “So where's the kid I suppose to spend time with?”
“She's right here,” said Magic, moving a little to the side and revealing a small orange filly with a purple mane. “This is-
“Scootaloo,” Rainbow finished with a shocked expression. Out of all the times that she had hung out with Scootaloo never once did she mention her parents, nor did Rainbow ever think to ask about them.
“You know it each other?” Magic asked, sounding surprised.
Rainbow nodded then walked to the filly and knelt down to her level. Staring into those lavender eyes made Rainbow's heart ache, knowing that she hadn't been there for her. “Scootaloo, I'm so sorry,” she said, as a tear ran down her face, “I didn't know.”
Scootaloo looked at her idol with a worried expression, seeing Rainbow about to cry worried her.
“She can't hear you,” said Magic sadly.
“What!?” exclaimed Rainbow.
“She can't hear you,” she repeated, “She's deaf, she can only communication through sign language now.”
Rainbow's heart ache doubled ,not only was she an orphan, but she was deaf too. “When did this happen,” Rainbow said with a cracked voice.
“Four months ago,” she said, “She was in an accident, she tried to kill herself by jumping off the rooftop. She was lucky she only lost her hearing and had afew broken bones,”
Rainbow gasped then looked at Scootaloo, who still was worried, “SHE WHAT?!”
“She hated being alone so much she couldn't take it anymore.” Magic Summers reached in her pocket and pulled out a note, handing it to Rainbow. “She left this note before she did it,” said Magic. Rainbow grabbed the small scrap of tear stained paper and read it to herself.
Dear everypony,
I am an utter piece of trash, And you'll be better off without me. It wouldn't matter if I killed myself anyway. Everypony walked past me like I'm a ghost or I'm just not unimportant and you choose not to noticed me. All the parents who came to the orphanage didn't want me because I couldn't fly. Rainbow Dash stopped hanging out with me because she too busy for play time. Being a blank flank while the other fillies in the orphanage have cutie marks. So this is a goodbye hope you have a happy life because I didn't.
Scootaloo.
.
Rainbow Dash quickly pulled Scootaloo in a hug, letting the tears fall full force. “I'm so sorry, I wish I was there for you Scoots, I don't care if I have to face Celestia myself I'm gonna make this the best day you ever had.”
Rainbow broke the embrace and ruffle Scootaloo's mane which made her laugh. Scoolaloo started doing signs with her hoofs. “What she doing?” asked Dash.
Magic smiled and replied, “She said she so happy you're here.”
“Well tell her I'm glad to be here with her."
Magic signed, "Rainbow is glad to be here with you,” to Scootaloo.
Scootaloo smiled grew larger, threatening to split her face. She pounced on Rainbow, tackling her to the couch, hugging Rainbow tightly, her grasp getting tighter with every passing second. Rainbow felt something wet on her coat, she looked down to see Scootaloo crying into her chest.
Scootaloo started to doing sign language to Magic, who translated for Rainbow. “What she say?” asked Rainbow.
“I'm not alone anymore.”
That made Rainbow choke out a sob and hug the filly crying with her. “No, you never were,” said Rainbow, as Magic helped the pair off of the couch.
Rainbow, Scooaloo and Magic Summers walked out of the orphanage. “So, where do you want to go first?” asked Magic, handing Rainbow Scootaloo's list of things to do.
Rainbow had a devilish grin on her face as she looked over the list. “You'll find out soon enough...” she said, still grinning.
