Chapter 1: So Many Questions...

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A week has passed since that meteorite event. Everyday that had passed, Flare continued his deep sleep. His doctor, Doctor Stable, tried waking him up everyday that went by, but he didn't even budge. It was like he was in a coma.

Every dream he had appeared real to him, but he still couldn't seem too quite understand them. Two separate nights in that week had Flare questioning himself.

One night, Flare slept, periodically turning side to side.

He appeared to be standing on nothing as he saw only darkness all around him. He took his first step, and thought that maybe despite the darkness there was some floor that he was standing on and started running about the dark world he was in. After a short while, he starting noticing little shadows passing under him. Flare watched as the shadows formed into a giant shadow in front of him. The shadow shrunk, and a green glow started forming to what appeared to be a female alicorn, but it didn't feel like the good type to him.

The female alicorn had a light blue mane and tail, green eyes and loin, a black coat, and strange wings for they were not what he was accustomed to seeing. What really caught his eye was the holes near the bottom of her hooves as well as in her mane and tail. The horn was an unusual sight for Flare because it was twisted. The female alicorn used her magic on him, weakening him. Flare tried to fight, but it was useless until a hoof came and touched his shoulder. Flare turned his head, and was looking up at yet another alicorn. He felt a smaller dark presence, but at the same time felt a large sum of kindness come from her.

Her eyes looked down into his for a moment. But she then dashed straight into the other alicorn, swallowing her whole with her fierce magical powers, and afterwards disappearing into the darkness, leaving Flare alone...

Another night he was again turning about his bed once more…

He’s again surrounded by darkness. But this time, his surrounding cleared up all around him…

He looked all around him, trying identify what area could this be, but nothing seemed to be familiar. When he turned around, he looked over at a mare whose body was crushed on the ground, and bled all over forming a small puddle below his feet. Her eyes were closed. He quickly rushed over to her and upon touching her neck for a pulse, he found none.

He felt extremely angry, but he couldn't understand what for.

The eyes of the mare opened, and he looked straight into her eye. His whole body grew tense for no reason. He was trying to figure out why but couldn't. The mare spoke.

“My son...”

“Who… who are you?”

It felt as though Flare knew this mare like his own, like someone who was close to him, but still couldn't identify clearly who she was. He tried his hardest to remember any memory of her being with him, but couldn't bring back any.

“I don’t know who you are…”

He looked over at a stallion where he laid dead with what looked like a giant spear in his back. He thought for a moment of who could it have been, but still came up blank. He then looked back down at the mare who was talking to him.

“Forget the past, forget what has happened here.”

“What past, what does thou mean what has happened here?”

He was suddenly pushed to the ground. He got up to see who it was. However when he looked up, he only realized that it was himself.

“It is I?”

The colt screamed really loud facing up. All the noise he was making only made Flare more angry, and he started yelling at him.

“Why are you screaming?”

The colt’s scream only became more powerful, blowing him back. Flare was furious, but when he lifted his head, he looked up at a draconequus.

“A draconequus?”

In that moment, he couldn’t think straight. He tried to process everything that was happening but all that filled his mind was the face of that draconequus.

With a flash, the colt took off like a comet and tackled the beast way up into orbit. He couldn’t figure out what was happening. Everything suddenly starting warping, turning into a bright light and then dulling back into darkness once more.

He woke up breathing heavy. So many questions ran through his mind…

"Who were those two equines... what was that draconequus doing there, why was I screaming, where was I?"

Three days later after that dream, Doctor Stable gave him the okay to leave the hospital. Flare walked out of the hospital happier than ever. He was just happy to stretch his limbs after a week in the bed.

Before moving onward however, he took a moment to process his surrounds. He felt so out of touch...

Everything he saw just wasn't the same. He looked back at the hospital and even though the nurses and Doctor Stable had been kind, he started remembering images of seeing places that didn't match the environment at all.

He feels comfortable at what he sees, but deep down inside something wasn't feeling right. The ground was smooth, but he felt it should be more rough. He shrugged that idea off his mind and continued his way to a wide space. He thought maybe he wasn't in the place he could barely remember.

The scenery looked strange to him. He started questioning himself.

“I've never seen houses with these designs before. It seems different. I can't remember how they looked before, but they certainly didn't look like this... Why are all the equines in this village only ponies, where are the other equines?”

He walked over to two ponies sitting on a bench. When he came near the bench, the both ponies looked up at him. He gave them a perplexed look because of what they were holding.

“Excuse me ma’am, what are you holding in that forearm?”

The two ponies looked at each other then at him again. They were quite confused and almost took him to be some type of alicorn, but he had no wings.

“Umm, who are you?”

“I’m… Flare. Yours?” he said scratching his mane.

“My name is Bon Bon.”

The Mint coat pony next to her spoke.

“I’m Lyra, nice to meet you.”

“Hi. So are you going to tell me what you’re holding there?”

“A newspaper.”

“A news...paper?”

The two ponies looked at each other and back once more.

“Aheh heh, Ok sweetie, where ya’ from?” Bon Bon said eyeing him down.

“Umm…” Flare thought as he averted his eyes to the trees, then to the skies, and then back down to her. He couldn't remember where, so he said at random, “The Forest?”

“What? You mean the Everfree Forest?” Lyra replied.

“Uuuh…”

Just as Bon Bon was about to speak, a voice yelled from the distance.

“There you are! Pinkie Pie and I couldn't find you in the hospital, and boy that was real worrisome. Luckily I find you here.”

A baby purple dragon ran up to him and said, “Come follow me, Princess Twilight requested that she sees you immediately.”

“Immediately?" Flare cocked his neck back in confusion, "Who is this Princess Twilight Sparkle you speak of?”

As he spoke, an image flashed in his mind of seeing a purple mare in a white room. He remember a mare that greeted him.

“Hi, my name is Twilight Sparkle. What yours?”

“Well follow me, and you’ll remember. We have to hurry though.”

“Hmm... Alright.”

He then started to follow the baby purple dragon to their next destination...
