University student Spike lives in a modern-day Ponyville, one much like the one that we all know and love. But this is an Equestria dominated by science, and much is different. The multilevel constructions glow with neon, glimmer with talking billboards and gleam in the headlights of floating cars. He has spent his years in Ponyville enjoying all that this science-run city has to offer. His life has twisted and turned, and things he never thought possible have happened to him: his somehow-failing relationship with his motherly caretaker, Twilight Sparkle; the developments in his love-life between the girl he dreams of, Rarity, and the one he has had, Apple Bloom; and even his experimentation with genetics that allow him to control his growth spurts, keeping him at the reasonable size of a fully grown pony. And though science has done him great favors in his life, allowing him to stay with his friends and integrate into the Ponyvillian society, what interests Spike isn't science, it's myth: specifically the recurring myths and stories of a mystic warrior woman named Promethea, whose origins seem to emerge from the dim memories of 5th century Neighgypt, when a young filly fleeing from her father's murderers slips somehow into the realm of ancient gods, The Immateria.

Researching a fictional trail through centuries with the help of his close friend Rarity, Spike calls upon the mysterious shaman of the Everfree Forest, Zecora, the only known member of the tribe to last be connected to the Promethea myth, an quickly finds himself, along with Rarity, swept into a terrifying world of dark, deadly spirits and desperate heroics. In a dizzying chase across the city, Zecora begins to reveal the truth behind the Promethea stories, as she, Spike and Rarity struggle to save their own lives! Only Rarity has the key to their rescue... the power is within Spike's words. But will he have the resolve to harness it? Join them on this journey through mystical realms and sorcerous perils as Rarity strives to take on the power of Promethea!
