Chapter 23: Meet the Parents
The walls of the estate cloud home were long and plain, but the atmosphere was cozy and felt loved. However, Spitfire didn’t exactly have that feeling as she trotted into the home of her marefriends parents.
Firefly trotted down to the end of the hallway and opened a door with Dash following close behind. As Spitfire trotted up, she saw a purple stallion sitting on a sofa in what looked like the living area of the home.
Firefly spoke up as she trotted into the room. “Come on, honey. Stop being lazy and say 'hi' to your daughter,” she said to the stallion with an amused look. The purple stallion rubbed an eye with a forehoof and took the newspaper off his chest before getting up.
He turned around to face Rainbow Dash just as Spitfire hesitantly trotted into the room just beyond the threshold of the door. He raised an eyebrow. ”So, is this your marefriend?” he said gesturing to Spitfire.
Dash nodded nervously. “Yeah...is that um...okay?” she asked.
The purple stallion smirked and turned his head to face Firefly, who was now sitting on a chair in the living room. “So I guess that means I win,” he said, holding out a forehoof, expecting something from the mare.
Firefly rolled her eyes before getting up, making her way out of the room and up the stairs to the bedroom to get the stallions winnings. Rainbow Dash was shocked by this. “What exactly have you two been betting on...that I was a fillyfooler?”
Rainbow’s father chuckled. “Well actually, I’ll tell you how it happened. It was a nice calm breezy morning. I got out of bed and made my way downstairs to get some breakfast. I had oatmeal with raspberry jam. I wish you still got toys from those packets like we used to get for you when you were little... Anyways, I poured myself a cup of coffee and-”
“Getting to the point sweetheart,” Firefly said as she came back down into the living room. ”Your father and I saw you in the Cloudsdale courier and it said the captain of the Wonderbolts had a marefriend; to our surprise, it was you. I said it must have been a mistake, but your father persisted that it was you and we made a bet... and I appear to have lost,” she said, handing the stallion some bits.
Rainbow was astonished. “W-What?! You thought I couldn’t be with Spitfire?” she asked, a slight smirk coming onto her face.
Firefly’s eyes constricted slightly. “Oh Celestia no, sweetheart. I just thought that maybe…”
Spitfire trotted up to Rainbow Dash as Firefly continued to search for something that would help her out of this whole. “I just thought that maybe it was just a misprint... because I thought you were still in Ponyville,” she exclaimed, jabbing her daughter in her ribs.
Rainbow yelped slightly moving back. “What was that for?” she asked, rubbing the slightly sore spot under her fur.
Firefly grinned as she trotted back over to the chair in the living room. “For not telling your mother where you’ve been all this time... I could have needed some assistance from my daughter over the past few weeks and I wouldn’t know where to send a letter too.”
Dash rolled her eyes playfully as she trotted over to the living room sofa and sat down. She patted next to her, motioning for Spitfire to come and sit down as well. The golden mare trotted over and sat down as Rainbow’s father leaned over and held out his hoof. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Fire. I am Rainbow’s father: Thunder Dash. Pleasure to meet you,” he said politely, making Rainbow gag slightly. Spitfire shook his hoof before turning to Firefly.
The pink mare had a smirk plastered on her muzzle. She leaned forward as she spoke, “So, Spitfire, if I may, how come a mare like you is dating a mare like my daughter?” she asked quizzically.
Spitfire froze for a few moments as she tried to think of a suitable answer. “Well... I... um,” she started, exchanging looks with Dash before continuing, “I’ve... adored your daughter for quite a while. She has amazing talent and personality,” she said, hoping the answer would be enough for the pink mare.
Firefly raised an eyebrow. “That doesn’t sound like Dashie; if I know her, she just likes eating pasta and cuddling her Spitfire plushie at night.”
“MOM!” Rainbow Dash yelled, interrupting the conversation as her cheeks turned a heavy shade of red. Spitfire turned to face her marefriend with a playful smirk as Firefly tried to hold in her own laughter. Rainbow managed to shoot a glare at her mother, who just stuck her tongue out in reply.
Thunder decided it was time to intervene. “Okay mare’s, let's turn down the heat. It’s getting late and I wouldn’t be all to surprised if you guys didn’t have a busy day tomorrow,” he said, turning to his daughter and her marefriend on the couch.
Spitfire nodded approvingly. “Your not wrong there, it’s only three days until the show; I don’t want to disappoint them,” she said, getting up and looking back down at Rainbow. “So... where am I sleeping?” she asked.
Firefly smiled. “Well, unless you want to sleep on the couch, I’m afraid you’ll have to sleep with Rainbow and your twin plushie,” she said amusingly.
Rainbow groaned. “Mom, please?! You're embarrassing me!” she said, trotting out of the room with Spitfire.
Firefly smirked. “I’m just being me, sweetie. Now go to your room,” she said playfully, glaring at her daughter.
As the two mare’s left the room and headed up the stairs of the cloud home. Spitfire turned to her marefriend, who had a slightly annoyed look on her face. She giggled slightly, causing the sky blue mare to raise an eyebrow and look over at her. “What?” she asked quizzically.
Spitfire shook her head, muffling the rest of her laughter with a forehoof. “It’s nothing, Dashie,” she said, yawning. Dash just rolled her eyes again as she got to the top of the stairs and trotted down another small corridor until she came up to a door which adorned a Wonderbolt poster. She put a hoof on the door and opened it to reveal the bedroom inside.
The room was a decent size, although the bed was slightly small. A few of shelves filled the left side of the room which adorned items from Rainbow’s foalhood. Spitfire looked around the room with a smile. Rainbow went over to the bed and looked at it with slight astonishment. “I don’t remember it being this small,” she said, turning back to Spitfire.
The golden mare then spotted the plushie of herself that stood proudly on one of the cloud pillows at the top of the small bed. She giggled, causing Rainbow to blush slightly in embarrassment. “Well, at least you don’t have to use that anymore,” Spitfire said with a playful smirk.
Before Rainbow could come up with a sufficient answer to the question, she was tackled onto the small bed in a fit of laughter. But before either mare could say anything, a voice spoke up over them, “Hey, if you're gonna ‘do it’, then can you at least be a little more quiet?” Thunder asked.
Dash was about to shout back when Spitfire just silenced her with forehoof. “So, how long is it that you’ve been admiring me for?” she asked, leaning down so she was just a few strands of hair away from Dash’s muzzle.
Dash pushed the plushie off the bed, causing both mares to burst out in laughter. Spitfire was struggling speak up. “Wow… I didn’t know I was such an influence. I’m only a three years older than you,” she pointed out.
Dash nodded. “I know, but it was when I saw you at that all access flight show in Cloudsdale that I kinda liked you,” she said.
Spitfire’s eyes widened. “Wait?! That was when I’d just become a Wonderbolt,” she said, slightly surprised.
Dash shrugged. “It doesn’t matter anyways, I’ve got you now,” she said, wrapping her marefriend up in a tight hug. Spitfire laughed in response as she settled down on the bed, there muzzles were close together due to the small mattress.
Spitfire sighed happily. “Well, that was long day,” she said, feeling her eyes start to droop.
Dash nodded approvingly. “Yeah, I’m beat!”
Spitfire smiled and leaned in as both mare’s kissed each other goodnight, before drifting off to sleep in each-others embrace.
Meanwhile in a street not far from the outskirts of Cloudsdale, Blazing trotted passed many houses, he smiled when he finally found the house he was looking for. Trotting up to the door he knocked and waited for anypony to answer.
Suddenly, the door opened to reveal a white pegasus stallion with a fiery mane (much like Spitfire’s, except it had white streaks instead of yellow). The stallion smiled when he saw Blazing, “Oh! Hey, man!” he said happily.
Suddenly, laughter could be heard from further down the hallway in the home. “Haha dude, that sounded like so much horse shit!”
The stallion turned around to look down the empty hallway and shouted, “Well how the heck do you answer the door, featherbrain?!”
It took a few moments before the voice replied. “At least I don't sound like I'm colt cuddlin'!”
The stallion turned back to Blazing and motioned for him to come into the home. As Blazing shut the door behind him he watched as the stallion bucked open a door in the hallway and the sounds of the voice returned, “Oh no, no! I’m sorry, bro. Come on, don’t hit me!” it said before the sound of a smashing plate could be heard. Blazing nervously trotted further into the house as the sounds continued to reverberate of the walls. “Please, bro! Not the ear, not the ear!”
Blazing rounded the corner and into what looked like a kitchen to see one stallion about to break a chair over his brother's head. As Blazing heard the crash, he facehoofed.
“This is gonna be a long night...”
