Chapter 24: Training Shenanigans

Another day dawned over Equestria. In Cloudsdale, ponies were just waking up for their early morning weather duties. Meanwhile, at Rainbow’s parents’ house, things weren’t so great.

Spitfire yawned heavily as she opened her eyes and scanned the room with what little vision she had in the morning. Finally, her eyes came to rest on the small Wonderbolt clock that hung just in front of the bed. Spitfire shrugged; she was only an hour late for training, but just as she put her head back down on the pillow, her eyes shot open as the realization hit her.

“Rainbow, wake up, we’re an hour late for training!” Spitfire shouted as she nudged the sleeping mare awake before scrambling out of the bed and looking around the room. Rainbow sat up on the small mattress and rubbed her eyes with a hoof.

She saw her marefriend looking at her with slight panic in her eyes.Rainbow raised an eyebrow, asking, “What’s wrong, Spitfire?”

The golden mare was slightly dumbstruck by this and pointed to the clock above the wall which read out the time. It took a few moments for the realization to hit the still sleepy pegasus before she realized what was going on.

“Silver's gonna kill us,” Rainbow announced as the pair stared at each other for a few more moments before they both bolted out of the room and down the stairs of the home.

Meanwhile, in another part of Cloudsdale, things weren’t exactly going well for a certain stallion either. Blazing groaned as he awoke on his makeshift cloud bed on the Streak brothers' living room sofa. He rubbed his head as he got up, feeling slightly nauseous from last night's events. He got up and made his way towards the kitchen, but as he started his trotting, he heard a knock at the front door. Changing his course, the stallion trotted up to the door and opened it to reveal a pale blue stallion and a silver stallion standing at the doorstep.

Soarin raised an eyebrow. “Blazing? What are you doing here?” he asked quizzically. While Rapid stared on in amazement.

Before the stallion could reply, a crashing sound came from down the hallway. Blazing and Soarin both hesitantly looked around to see one of the Streak brothers coming out of the kitchen. He looked down at the two stallions and smirked. “What’s this Blazing? Bringing more people to the party?” he asked.

Blazing was completely mind blown. “Wait, Lightning, you're drunk, again!? It's just past dawn!” he exclaimed as Soarin looked on in astonishment.

The stallion trotted towards the door with a confused look on his face. “What? No, I’m just a bit tipsy from last night... too much vodka,” he said while rubbing the sleep out of his eye with a forehoof.

Soarin smirked amusingly at the two stallions. “Well, I think I’ve got a great Idea to get you two back on the road of sanity again.”

Both stallions looked at each other, confused, before looking back to Soarin as he continued. The stallion leaned in as he spoke. “Be at the circuit in ten minutes sharp,” he said firmly. Both stallions nodded before they slowly trotted back into the hallway to get ready for the day's training.

While that was all going on, over the skies of Cloudsdale Spitfire and Dash raced over to the large stadium in Cloudsdale, they flew over the large oval building then dived down and landed onto the arena. Spitfire turned to Dash as she spoke, “let’s just hope Silver forgot,” she said as Dash gave a slightly exhausted nod.

Their hopes however were shattered by another voice, “didn’t I ask you two to be on site an hour earlier today?” Silver Skies asked as he trotted out into the arena where the mare’s were standing. Spitfire nodded as she lowered her head slightly.

Silver Skies sighed. “Well I guess it wasn’t that much of a big deal, but anyway I’ll just move that hour earlier to later on today once everypony's gone home,” he said trotting back into the inner stadium.

Spitfire looked over at Dash with a tired expression, “I think we’re in for a long day today Dash.”.

Just then a few more ponies came over the stadium and landed not to far away from the pair. Spitfire smiled when she saw who it was. “Hey Misty, Fleetfoot glad to see you got those casts off,” she said happily as she trotted over with Dash to meet the two ponies.

Both mare’s looked over and saw their captain before gasping, “hey Spitfire I haven’t seen you in forever time!” Fleetfoot said rushing up to hug the golden mare while Misty rolled her eyes at her friend’s antics.

Then Fleetfoot looked over and saw Rainbow Dash standing behind Spitfire, she gasped again before galloping over and tackling her into a big hug, “hey Dash haven’t seen you in ages too...and I hear your dating the captain,” she said in a sing~song voice trotting back over where Misty stood.

Dash smiled happily as she nodded. “Yeah, but it isn’t one of those sappy romantic things, we’re way too cool for that.”

Spitfire smirked amusingly as she shook her head, just then the faint sound of laughter could be heard from above, all the mare’s on the ground looked up to see two orange streaks shoot over the top of the stadium with another yellow streak catching up behind.

“Lightning Streak, Fire Streak get down here now!” Soarin shouted as he landed onto the arena with Rapid Fire.

Spitfire raised an eyebrow, “um Soar, theres three ponies up there,” she said with a cocky grin.

Soarin rolled his eyes, “I know that Spitfire, Blazing’s trying to catch them,” he said with an annoyed tone as he looked back up to the sky seeing the two orange streak turn around and dart back towards the stadium with the yellow streak holding off and moving away to a hover. Soarin’s eyes widened as he realised what was about to happen, “oh Celestia, everypony run!”

Just as everyone moved out of the way the two streaks collided down onto the soft arena with a thud, Soarin sighed angrily as he trotted onto the stadiums arena and looked down at the two stallions trying their best to pin each other to the ground in a fight. He leaned down before shouting, “Into line double time, I want to see you lined up as fast as you can fly!”

Both stallions quickly got themselves up and stood into a line just as Blazing came back down and landed onto the arena. Soarin sighed heavily as he turned to Spitfire and said, “I really don’t think I can survive these two.”

Spitfire rolled her eyes. “That’s because you don’t know how to play tactically,” she replied trotting over to the two stallions.

“Okay stallions, If you want to have legs and wings by the end of this session then I would suggest cutting the horeshit and start practicing!” Spitfire commanded using her academy sergeant voice making the two stallions salute quickly before blitzing off into the sky at great speed as Soarin, Misty, Rapid and Fleetfoot headed over to get training started. Spitfire turned round to face Blazing and Rainbow Dash with a smile, but before she could speak Blazing cut her off, “Spitfire I need you and Dash to come with me there’s something important I need to tell you,” he said motioning with a hoof for the two mare’s to follow.

Spitfire exchanged concerned looks with Rainbow as the pair trotted into the stadium and down the hallway into the lounge room which was deserted at this time in the morning. Blazing sighed as he sat down on one of the lounge’s chairs and looked up at the mares, “Spitfire, I overhead Silver talking to dad the other day,” he started watching as Spitfire’s eyes grew in shock as Dash held a confused look.

“He’s not trying to get you or me out of the job anymore Spitfire, he’s got a new target and I’m pretty sure it’s got blackmail involved,” Blazing explained as the two mares sat down on the sofa opposite him.

Spitfire raised an eyebrow. “Well don’t just leave us hanging Blaze, who is it dad’s after now?” she said, her voice was a mix of worry and concern. Blazing simply sighed solemnly and pointed a hoof over towards Dash.

Spitfire looked at Dash as she spoke, “w-wait, why Rainbow?” she asked slightly shocked at this.

Blazing shrugged. “I dunno sis, but knowing Golden Fire he’ll have some reason.”

Rainbow didn’t speak for a few moments as she let her anger settle slightly, when she calmed down enough she spoke up, “he’ll want me to get to Spitfire, that’s who he wants to blackmail,” she said knowingly.

Spitfire however was still slightly confused. “But why you, he’s only seen you on a news article.”

“Trust me Spitfire, I know how bullies work and he’s gonna get me out of the bolts and make it look like it’s your fault so you’ll stop going out with me,” Rainbow answered, feeling the tears well up in her eyes as she continued, “he want’s to ruin me Spitfire...just like Hoops did to me back at school.”

Spitfire wrapped a wing around her marefriend and held her close, “you know I’d never break up with you on account of my father Rainbow, besides we already went to Silver and he say’s that Golden Fire doesn’t make any last calls...and I’ll be damned to Celestia if I let him hurt anymore ponies again, especially you Rainbow,” Spitfire said as she kissed the mare softly on the cheek.

The sky blue mare nodded in response, “I know, but something needs to be done, I’ll be damned to the moon if that stallion thinks he can just take my dream away from me,” she said getting up and trotting out of the lounge.

Spitfire turned around as the mare trotted away, “Dash where are you going,” she asked.

“Training!” The mare called back in a slightly annoyed tone as she trotted out of sight.

Blazing sighed. “So now what are we gonna do?” he asked curiously.

Spitfire looked over at her brother, frowning. The stallion could already tell his sister was angry by the sudden change in events, and he was right. Spitfire felt her blood boil for her father and she wasn’t going to stand by any longer.

Spitfire launched from the sofa and started trotting down the hallway, with Blazing looking back in surprise, “hey Spit, aren't you doing training?”

Spitfire turned back to her brother, “cover for me, theres something I need to take care of first,” she replied before storming out of the room and down the corridor. Blazing thought about chasing after his sister, but he thought it best to follow her last instruction and just head back to training.

Meanwhile Spitfire had already taken off into the sky and was soaring across Cloudsdale at great speed, she gritted her teeth in anger as she made her way over to her parents towards the center of town, she landed hard onto the front door step and knocked the door heavily and waited impatiently for someone to answer, soon the door was opened by her mother, “hello darling what’s wrong?” she asked raising an eyebrow.

Spitfire shook her head. “Not now mom, where is he?”

Starfire rolled her eyes. “He’s been locked in his study since he came back yesterday, I think he just finished his daily cloud walking spell,” she said gesturing to the upper floor of the home. Spitfire didn’t reply and simply trotted into the home and up to her father's study.

Spitfire reached the door and reared up on her front legs and bucked the door breaking it in two and revealing the small room where a golden coated stallion sat with a slightly shocked impression as he saw his daughter angrily stomp into the room.

“You stay away from my marefriend!” Spitfire hollard as she stood her ground in the center of the study.

Golden Fire smirked. “Why should I? that mare destroyed my beautiful daughter and my family’s reputation, surely you can’t be serious about me letting her get away with this?”

“You’re insane dad! I won’t let you hurt anypony on my team especially Rainbow, and if you think you can just get rid of her you’re wrong, you don’t get a final say in anything we do and after the show Rainbow will be accepted into the bolts whether you like it or not!” Spitfire said firmly stamping her hoof on the ground.

Golden Fire fell silent at this. He was shocked at what he’d heard and it only made anger rise slightly. Spitfire turned away and trotted out of the room disgusted. Golden Fire still sat in his chair and waited for the sound of the door to his home slamming shut before he let his temper boil over.

“No!” Golden Fire shouted as he picked up his chair and smashed it into the cloud floor breaking it half, he then proceeded to pick up a lamp on his desk and throw it at a nearby wall, “I will not let anypony stop me!” he hollered as he smashed his hooves onto the desk making a it crack slightly. After that Golden Fire sighed heavily letting his anger settle some, he spoke while he breathed heavily, “I will not let anypony win, if I have to take Rainbow down myself I will,” he told himself looking out of the study window to see a fiery yellow streak making it’s way back towards the stadium. A small smile came to the stallions features as he spoke, “If I have to take Rainbow down, then that’s exactly what I’ll do…that show will be her last.”
