Chapter 26: Raining Fire

The next few days rolled around quickly and since the first day of training nothing troublesome had occurred. The show in Cloudsdale would be the final performance of the winter tour for the Wonderbolts before the new year, it was expected to be a normal show just like the other prefromances for this year's tour. Most of the pegasi performing were happy that they could finally take a break after the day was through, but before any of that this performance would need to be executed perfectly if the Wonderbolts where to keep their reputation in their home city. This performance was where it mattered the most.

In one of the many hallways which tunneled throughout the stadium, two mares trotted side by side as they made their way to the locker rooms, one more nervous than the other. Rainbow Dash looked over at Spitfire, noticing the anxious look on her face.“Hey, Spits... you alright?”

The golden mare turned to look at Dash. “Y-Yeah…I’m fine.”

Rainbow didn’t buy it. “C’mon Spits, I know you better than that. Now tell me what’s bugging you?”

Spitfire sighed heavily. “I just feel a little nervous, I mean, both of us have… been, through a lot lately, I mean, what if somepony’s out there to kill us or-”

“Hey,” Rainbow interrupted, “don’t worry about what will happen out there. I know that you are nervous, I am too. But there is nothing to worry about… because you know if you fall, I will be there to catch you.”

Spitfire smiled and nodded happily as leaned over to kiss the mare, “Thanks, Dash… I really needed to hear that,” she said as the pair walked into the the locker rooms where the rest of the Wonderbolts were already getting suited up, Spitfire and Rainbow returned to their selected lockers to get ready.

The golden pony was slightly less nervous now about this performance, but she still had a slightly weird feeling about today’s show. Nonetheless, Spitfire put her uniform on and waited till the rest of the team was ready before she gathered them around for a talk. “Okay, team. Today we make a mark in our home town… now I don’t have to go over why this is such an important task, but let me tell you this: if you care about the Wonderbolts and you want to be respected then this is where you make that all happen. Now lets get out there and give them one hell of a show!” Spitfire said to which the rest of the team saluted before the announcer started the ceremony signaling the Wonderbolts to get ready.

Meanwhile a dark figure trotted through the inner parts of the stadium, his shadow painted the walls of the dimly lit hallway. As he went over his plan in the dim of the cheering crowds from outside, he had been studying a spell for the past day which he believed would work best, if he where to fire it directly at the pegasus he chose, it would paralyze them just for enough time for them to hit the ground. If fired at a Wonderbolt the speed they would be travelling at would mean the impact should be able to cause a broken wing or leg injury, this would give the golden stallion enough time in the ponies absence to act upon getting them out of the bolts. He only had one pony in his sites today: Rainbow Dash. The announcer started the ceremony signaling the time had come. The shadowed pony quickly galloped away to his position in the stadium.

The announcer finished his opening speech of welcoming all the selected guests who had come to watch the Wonderbolts. He now proceeded to introduce the main act.

“Please join me in welcoming the Wonderbolts!”

Just like before when the announcers voice died down the stadium was quiet, ponies waited eagerly for the show to start, and some nearly fell of their seats in anticipation. Suddenly the rumble of thunder could be heard as a thick black smoke filled the center of the arena. The smoke formed itself into a large dark cloud and as it stood in the center of the stadium, it began to crackle with the impending lightning.

Suddenly three streaks of thunder dived down in parallel with each other they leveled themselves out before soaring across the stadium, they barrel rolled as they lined up into a single file line and started to circle around the dark cloud as it started to shoot lightning out from all directions as the Wonderedbolt’s were enveloped into the growing cloud, everypony watching in anticipation as the three Wonderbolts emerged again and shot into the sky breaking up the giant cloud as their thunderous streaks painted the skies with bolts of lightning. The crowd below went wild with cheers of delight as more Wonderbolts began to join the scene.

Spitfire and Soarin dived down into a double helix before spiraling out into different parts of the arena. Rainbow was last in as she circled around the stadium in her natural streak showering the crowds below with multicolored light before heading down into the stadium below.

Golden Fire grinned as he saw the pony descend into the stadium, and her natural streak made it all the more easier to point her out from the rest of the Wonderbolts in the stadium, but he decided to hold off for the time being he needed to wait until Rainbow was closest to him so his spell would work effectively.

Meanwhile Spitfire was busy performing her solo routine, Misty and Fleetfoot where circling the stadium doing barrel rolls as they passed each other. Soarin and the streak brothers were doing reflex spins and dives whilst Rainbow did loops at the center of the stage making rainbow colored rings getting cheers from the crowd below.

Rainbow Dash did three loops in total before diving round the left side of the stadium, Golden Fire took this as the opportunity as everypony got up as they cheered the Wonderbolt around the corner, he started to light up his horn and cast his spell.

Spitfire had finished her solo routine and darted down to the left side of the stadium to complete a spin out with Soarin, she then soared up giving her just a few seconds to look around at the crowds below, she watched as Rainbow soared round the stadium, but then she spotted something horrifying. Standing amongst the crowd was her father his horn alight and she knew just who it was for. Spitfire wasting no time, spread her wings giving them a powerful flap as she dived down towards the impending disaster.

Spitfire felt her heart racing and fear now grabbing on to any part of her nervasystem that it could find, all she knew was she had seconds to spare as she kept beating her wings faster and faster not wanting to waste a moment of time that she had left.

Ponies at the far side of the stadium where all watching in wonder as a cone started forming around the captain of the team as she powered down towards the stadium at great speed, the cone started to engulf the pony's body as she continued to speed up.

Golden Fire saw Rainbow in the mists of the crowd and for a split second their eyes met, Rainbow’s eyes widened in fear as she saw the stallion as his horn shot out a magical burst of energy, Rainbow had no time to react.

Just then a mighty boom rocked the entire stadium, Rainbow watched as time started to slow down, then a pony came down from above and deflected the magical energy as it hit the pony before it could reach Rainbow Dash in time, and then time sped up again as the pony that had been shocked smashed into the stadium's stands ripping up parts of the cloud wall and sending debris flying across a large part of the stadium and black smoke filling the crash site. Everypony looked on in utter shock of what had just happened as a deathly silence fell over the stadium, the crumbling of cloud bricks and metal was all that could be heard. A large ring of fire hung in an oval shape as it faded over the stadium with the silence.

The black smoke of the crash started to clear sightly as a few golden feathers blew in the small breeze of the wind. One of the feathers landed on Rainbow’s muzzle. It was then she realised what pony had just flown in front of her.

Spitfire opened an eye slowly, she looked around the stadium of ponies shouting trying to get their voices heard. As her blurred vision came back to her, she lolled her head to the side, seeing bundles of destroyed safety clouds littering the storage room. She tried to move anything, but her mind went into shock as realized that nothing would respond . She slowly moved her eyes downwards to her flight suit, the nylon suit had been torn in the crash and most was now scattered beyond the thick black smoke which filled the area where she lay, only a few parts where now attached to her body by a few threads. She took a look around the rubbled area where she lay, her eyes widened when she saw a few blocks of cloud tainted with blood. Suddenly, she felt her eyes start to droop and was about to close her eyes again when a voice shrieked above the crowd.

“Spitfire!”

The golden mare smiled when she heard the sound of her marefriend’s voice come through her ears as more sounds came through her damaged hearing which had a ringing sound to it.

“We need paramedics over here!”

"We need medical teams stat!"

"Somepony arrest that stallion!"

"Somepony get the air medics team now!"

Suddenly Spitfire started to feel her grip on the world fading slightly with the sounds becoming more and more quiet, something in her brain just felt off...tired even...her eyes started to close against Spitfire's will as she tried her best to stay awake. The last thing Spitfire saw was the hooves of a light blue pegasus touching the ground and rushing over to her...

Now Now, before you all go on about how you didn't know Golden Fire was a unicorn it was stated all the way back at chapter 3 and in chapter 24 it's also stated he's using a daily cloud walking spell....just to clear that all up for you who might have forgotten.

god damn that stallion! but yeah this was a turn of events wasn't it my friends hope you liked the chapter...will Spitfire get out alive will Rainbow have to deal with a loss of her first love? what will Golden Fire say about all of this? more will come in the next chapter, I assure you it will only take 3000 years for you to find out.
