Chapter 29: The News
Rainbow Dash awoke for a second time, but she wasn’t in the place she last remembered herself being. Instead, she found herself in a familiar room with the same beeping sound she had heard from the night before. Her vision was again slightly blurry, but this time there was no white light stopping her eyes from adjusting to their normal vision. Soon Rainbow Dash found her eyes focusing on Spitfire who was laying on a clean bed with a few less wires attached to her than what Rainbow remembered before. Then a voice spoke.
“Hello again Miss Dash, I expect your very confused aren't you?” Said the voice of the light brown stallion as he trotted into the mare’s view. Rainbow blinked a few times before nodding. The doctor smiled happily as he stood opposite the mare across the bed where Spitfire lay.
“Well I’m very pleased to inform you Miss Dash that your marefriend has survived the night despite the odds and her body seems to be healing to the injuries, besides the fact it’s still a touch and go I think you can be assured she will hopefully make a recovery.”
Rainbow’s lip started to wobble slightly as happiness and joy started to course through her veins once more lightning up her muscles and causing a joyful smile to come to her lips for the first time since before the performance in Cloudsdale, but before she could say anything a knock came from the door of the room causing both ponies to turn to the noise. Blazing stuck his head through the door with a cautious look, “the nurse told me to come over here,” he said quietly.
The doctor nodded happily as he trotted over to the stallion, “Yes... am I right in thinking your Spitfire’s brother?” he said ushering the stallion into the room.
Blazing nodded nervously as he trotted into the room and stood next to Rainbow, he looked between their happy faces which started to bring a small smile to his own, “W-What's happening then?” he asked.
The doctor smiled. “Well, as I was telling Miss Dash earlier, your sister has survived the first stage and things are starting to look up for her.”
Blazing felt slightly light headed from the relief that flooded his mind, Rainbow just put a forehoof to his back stopping him from stumbling over. Both ponies gave a slight giggle at this. The doctor made his way to the end of the room as he spoke, “Okay I’ll leave you all to it,” he said before leaving quietly letting Rainbow and Blazing trot over to Spitfire who still laid motionless on the bed.
Rainbow leaned down to cup Spitfire’s forehoof in her own, she then proceeded to kiss her gently on the forehead as Blazing stood quietly, but then Rainbow spoke, “Why would he do something like this?”
Blazing raised an eyebrow confused. “What are you talking about?” he asked.
Rainbow turned slightly to see the stallion more clearly, Blazing could see the slight anger in her eyes, “I’m saying why would Golden Fire do this?” she asked again.
Blazing rubbed the back of his neck as he pondered on the question, “I...don’t know, Dash… I guess he’s just not a good pony, I should have learned that a while back.”
Rainbow kept running a hoof through Spitfire’s mane as she spoke, “Why though just…why is a unicorn even in Cloudsdale,” she spat.
Blazing was quiet for a few moments before he replied, “well...to tell you the truth,” he said trotting over to the other side of the bed, “When me and Spitfire were born, we still lived in Canterlot, but Golden Fire got a promotion at his weather job, he’s a scientist on weather manipulation...he studies clouds and the sun etcetera, so one day he decided to move to Cloudsdale. We all laughed saying it was a stupid idea but...he did it and we followed him, he uses a daily cloudwalking spell and thats about it.”
Rainbow only nodded in reply as she sat down on a chair close to the bed, Blazing could see sadness in her eyes, “Hey, Dash, what’s up?”
Dash sighed. “I just don’t know whether she’ll come back to us,” she said motioning to the mare on the bed.
Blazing looked over at Spitfire and then to Dash. “No, she’ll come back, I know she wouldn’t leave us hanging,” he said knowingly.
Dash smiled a little at that, but it quickly faded as she continued to hold Spitfire’s hoof tightly in her own, she knew that she was in this for the long run, but nothing was going to stop her from leaving the mare she loved. Blazing knew this too, he also knew that there was a small doubt in everyone's mind that Spitfire still may never wake up.
Blazing shook his head slightly trying to get the thought out of his head, he knew that he’d have to stay strong if he was going to endure the next few days, but he had a job to do on top of that. He looked over at Dash still by his sisters side nuzzling her softly, he sighed trotting over to the exit of the room he turned as he spoke, “I’m going to get Soarin and the others.”
Dash nodded again as she turned back to Spitfire as she whispered, “come back soon.”
Blazing trotted through the large white hallways of the hospital, he came up to the bench where Soarin still sat asleep, he trotted over to the stallion and nudged him awake, “Come on Soar’ we’ve got work to do.”
The pale blue stallion groaned from the uncomfortable sleep and rubbed his eye with a forehoof as he spoke, “What’s happening is Spitfire alright?” he asked as Blazing started trotting down the hallway.
“She’s fine, but we need to go and take care of something,” he said, trotting towards the end of the hallway.
Soarin got up off the bench and started to trot after the stallion, “What is it we’re taking care of?” he asked.
Blazing turned around to face Soarin just before the entrance to the hospitals public waiting room, “Okay, this is what we’re gonna do, you need to create a distraction so I can get out of here and get Starfire.”
“What distraction can’t you just trot out of the hospital?” Soarin asked quizzically.
Blazing motioned to the window of the door, Soarin looked through and his eyes widened when he saw the mountains of reporters and journalists waiting for a chance to speak to anypony connected with Spitfire, Blazing turned to Soarin as he spoke, “So can you do it, I’ll be back as quick as I can.”
Soarin groaned, but eventually he gave a nod in acceptance and Blazing trotted through the doors causing all the reporters to go wild, Soarin then took that as his cue to create a distraction.
“Hey everypony!” he shouted getting the attention of everypony in the room while Blazing made a quick escape, “um, who wants to see the Wonderbolt’s new...stand up comedy act?”
All the reporters in the room gave each other knowing looks before diving in for a chance to speak to the stallion.
Meanwhile over the skies of Cloudsdale Blazing soared over various buildings and monuments in an attempt to dodge all the reporters in the sky, he worked his way through streets and various alleyways until he came up to a familiar house. The place looked abandoned with curtains closed and no activity seemed to run through the area. Blazing felt his heart rising at what he could find in the home.
With this new adrenaline, Blazing stormed into the home, he shouted, ”Mom where are you!”
A small rasy response came back and it made Blazing mind freeze he spoke again with a slightly panicked tone, “D-Don’t worry mom... I’m coming!” he said, quickly moving into the home and checking the rooms he galloped down the hallway looking around until he came into the kitchen of the home. There he found a mare, her eyes half closed as she laid next to the kitchens oven, a set of hoofcuffs bound her to the heavy item to stop her from moving.
Blazing was now more frightened than ever, “Mom! are you okay?” he asked, rushing over and undoing the ropes, the mare looked up at Blazing as she wrapped her weak hooves around him, Blazing sighed in relief when he felt his mothers contact and nuzzled into her.
Starfire smiled slightly, “Blazing, what are you doing here?” she asked, her voice quiet and dry.
Blazing looked up at his mother before speaking, “I came to get you to the hospital, Spitfire’s not in a good way mom,” he said helping the mare up onto her hooves as he wrapped her in a winged embrace, “what happened?” he asked already having a good idea who it was.
Starfire pointed to a glass of water that sat on the kitchen’s table, Blazing quickly took it and gave it to his mother who gulped it down quickly before speaking up, “I-It was your father, I-I overheard his plan for what he wanted to do to Rainbow...I-I tried to tell him not to do it... but he didn't listen! I tried to leave... I had to warn her, but... He caught my and... and he tied me up, saying that nothing could get in his way... not even me,” she said, burying her head into Blazing as she began to cry. The stallion held the mare tightly, he was getting good at being able to comfort ponies now.
“I know mom, it’s okay Golden Fire’s gone now, but we need to focus on what’s really important,” Blazing said as he released the hug to look at his mother.
Starfire looked up with slight worry in her eyes. "Did.. Did he do it? Did he h-hurt rainbow?"
Blazing lowered his head as he spoke, his voice downcast. "No...but he almost did. Spitfire blocked the shot before it hit her... now Spitfire's in the hospital, and though she's stable... She's in rough shape..."
Starfire started to feel a few tears roll down her cheeks as she spoke, "How...How could he have done that to our daughter?! That monster!" She cried, breaking down into more sobs, "How...?"
Blazing sighed and held his mother tightly, trying to give her some comfort. "I know mom... But he's gone now,” he said, looking down at the mare, “and we need to stay strong... for Spitfire.”
Starfire nodded in acceptance, “Yeah your right Blazing.”
Blazing smiled. “Well let’s go to the hospital so we can at least get you checked out, and I’m suggesting you’ll want to see Spitfire as well,” he said as Starfire gave a small nod. Blazing draped a wing over her to keep her steady as the pair carefully left the home and made their way to the hospital.
An hour or so later, Blazing and Starfire made it into the hospital, Soarin managed to keep the press occupied while Blazing ushered the mare into the private wing where Spitfire was. Starfire looked up at her son, “Thank you, sweetheart, I thought I’d never leave that place,” she said.
Blazing could feel the mare starting to shake slightly, he knew the fear that would be going through the mare’s mind right now and it only made his anger rise for Golden Fire, but before he could speak Starfire spoke, “If it’s okay, Blazing. I think I would like to see my daughter before I get seen too.”
Blazing nodded as he opened the door into Spitfire’s hospital room. Rainbow Dash was by her side and hadn't moved from her recent position. The sky blue mare looked up as the two walked in. But to Blazing’s surprise Rainbow turned an angry look.
“Why is she here?” Rainbow asked getting slightly defensive.
“It’s okay Rainbow it’s just my mother, and she’s Spitfire’s too, she deserves to see her,” Blazing replied calmly.
Rainbow frowned. “So how do we know if she hasn’t had anything to do with this, how do we know she hasn’t been controlling Golden Fire all along!” she shouted getting off her seat and flaring her wings.
Blazing stepped in front of Starfire as he spoke, “because Rainbow I know my mother and she wouldn’t have anything to do with any of this, all she want’s is to see her daughter is that too much to bucking ask?”
Rainbow growled. “Why should I believe her?”
Before Blazing could come up with a response, Starfire trotted out from behind the stallion and into the light of the room. Rainbow saw her darkened coat that was usually bright, her orange mane now all scruffy and her eyes...Rainbow could see the fear, regret, sorrow and all other things rolled into one set of honest eyes that would never tell a lie. Rainbow then felt her own head droop slightly in defeat.
Starfire trotted over to Dash and laid a hoof on the mare’s shoulder causing Dash too look up at the mare. “It’s okay, Miss Dash, I know you care a lot for my daughter and I know you're doing a better job at it than I ever could,” she said with a sigh, “I think you had every right to say what you did Rainbow Dash, it’s my fault this happened in the first place.”
“Mom it wasn’t your fault, you were just in a bad situation,” Blazing said comfortingly.
Starfire smiled at her son before she moved closer to the bed, Rainbow moved over to Blazing as the pair watched the mare glide her hoof across to Spitfire’s. A tear escaped the mare’s eye as she leaned down to plant a kiss on her daughter’s forehead as she whispered, “Mommy’s here now sweetheart, everything’s gonna be okay,” she said stroking her daughters mane, “I’m sorry I haven’t been here for you sweetie, but Mommy promises she’ll make sure when you wake up that she’ll be much better than she was before.”
Blazing wrapped a wing around Dash as the mare sighed, Starfire gave her daughter one last nuzzle before looked over at the other two ponies in the room, “I think I’ll go get checked out Blazing, you stay here with Dash, you both are doing a great job,” she said trotting out of the room.
Dash watched the mare leave before going back over to Spitfire’s side, Blazing watched from the foot of the bed as silence once again filled the room. The sense of patience was in everypony’s mind as the life or death waiting game came into play…

Author's Note
Sooooo yeah Chapter 29 and we're at 60,000 words now !
In this chapter it was mainly about getting Spitfire's mother over, I felt she was a main character for Spitfire and kinda felt like she needed to be there at least seeing her once. I wanted her to have no Idea about what happened hence why I had Golden Fire flip and keep her locked up in the home.
So yeah it's been a rough few days and it's just gonna get rougher for a few more chaps I'm afraid but we now only have a few more chaps left to go now.
So yeah had a little thing told to me today that I should really be more showy than telly If you guys feel this way then that's okay I do now intend to start writing a bit more in depth than other chapters basically just explaining a few more things than I usually do nothing to big.
Anyways guys Summary Time!
1: Starfire was handcuffed to a heavy object to stop her from getting out, I saw it in a movie except it was a murder and the guy left the gass on I can't remember
2: Soarin...I just think of stand up comedy with him just cause he seems like the guy that has all those knock knock jokes
3: Will Spitfire ever wake up?
4: Rainbows Loyalty damn that's a blessing and a curse....what do you guys think?
