Chapter 4: A New Feeling
The next few days in Cloudsdale rolled around quickly and over the course of the time Rainbow had been attending all the Wonderbolt sessions at the arena.
Dash now had the full routine learned but was still under heavy pressure to get it perfected within a few weeks.
The afternoon sun shone brightly through the Wonderbolt headquarters as Rainbow was currently relaxing in the lounge after an afternoon training session with the ‘Bolts. The smell of the lunch hall made it's way past the mare's muzzle making her lips water slightly, but she paid no attention to this. She had been in deep thought about a current problem when a voice aroused her.
“That was another great session today Dash, I’m impressed,” Spitfire said with a smirk as she sat down next to the cyan mare.
Dash smiled happily at her captain. “Thanks Spitfire, it means a lot,” she replied with a slight blush.
Spitfire grinned and brushed a hoof over Dash’s cheek, causing the mare to blush brighter, bringing her to a giggle. “No problem rookie, but I’m really glad we have you on the team,” she said genuinely.
Dash kept smiling as her reddened cheeks started to fade, but she was glad that Spitfire was happy with her effort so far and made a mental note to keep up the hard work.
Spitfire looked over at the clock on the nearby wall and got up. “Well, I need to go check on the others. I’ll see you later Dash,” she said with a wink before trotting off.
Dash sighed in relief as she watched the yellow mare leave; she was happy that Spitfire didn’t know the true reason why she’d been having serious blushing problems whenever she was around.
It was then that Dash started to go back into her deep thoughts. She’d never had any problems with receiving compliments before, in fact, she very much liked them. When it came to Spitfire though, she kept feeling this weird sensation which made her seem to blush, she hated doing it, but she couldn’t seem to make the feeling stop.
Dash sighed heavily, maybe she was coming down with something, but she took that as a bit of a long shot. Then Dash’s mind started to wander into another realm, another part of her mind that she never usually seem to enter… could she be developing feelings for Spitfire?
Dash shook her head, she couldn’t be crushing on Spitfire, could she?
Rainbow then started to feel the blush coming back as the thought went through her head. Her eyes started to widen as she came to terms with the new idea. Still her mind rejected the idea, she couldn’t… could she?
“Hey Dash,” Fleetfoot said as she sat down next to the mare.
Dash jumped at the sound of another pony’s voice and quickly snapped her head towards the light cyan mare who had a large grin on her face. “Fleetfoot, since when did you get here?” she asked, slightly shocked.
Fleetfoot shrugged. “I dunno, got bored and went for a walk, and then I see you here with a really glum look on your face,” she replied, turning a concerned look at the mare in front of her.
Dash looked away from the mare slightly. “It’s not that. I was just thinking…” Dash said, rubbing the back of her neck hesitantly.
Fleetfoot leaned closer to Dash slightly. “What were you thinking?” she asked curiously.
Dash sighed. “It’s nothing Fleet, I just kinda have a few… things, on my mind,” she said, putting a hoof to her head.
Fleetfoot put a wing around Dash comfortingly as she spoke. “Well, what things? I can't help if you don’t tell me.”
Dash looked back up at the mare and quirked an eyebrow. “Why do you want to know?” she asked.
Fleetfoot gave a warm smile in return before speaking. “We’re teammates, and as my duty, I’m obliged to look out for you,” she said, nudging the mare slightly.
Dash giggled slightly at that. “Okay, fine,” she said, grinning at the mare.
Dash sighed. “Well, I’ve been getting these weird feelings lately, and I can't seem to work out what's wrong. It’s just bugging me,” she said as Fleetfoot listened closely.
The veteran Wonderbolt nodded. “Okay… when do you get these feelings?” she asked curiously.
Dash felt her cheeks start to burn as she spoke. “It’s when I’m around a... certain pony,” she responded, trying her best to keep her deepest thoughts locked away from her friend.
Fleetfoot smirked slightly at this. “Okay… I think I have something,” she said.
Rainbow looked up at the mare in astonishment. “You do?” she replied.
Fleetfoot nodded. “Yep, you have a severe case of love…” she said, hanging on the last word of the sentence for a while.
Dash held a face like she’d just been hit by a flying object. “I’m what?” she asked again, hoping she’d misheard the mare.
Fleetfoot giggled as she punched the mare playfully on the shoulder. “I said you are in love Miss Dash,” she repeated, trying to act as sappy as possible towards she cyan mare.
Dash shook her head in disbelief as she got up from her current seating position. “Woah, I’m not...I-I can’t,” she said, trying to protest.
Fleetfoot smiled. “Well, you can keep denying it Dash, or you can go to whatever pony it is you love and give ‘em a big smooch,” she said, making kissing noises as she trotted away, making Dash cringe.
When Rainbow heard the sounds of hoofsteps die away, she let out a sigh as she thought long and hard about her new found information. She just couldn’t even comprehend what she was hearing, it was as if she was in a dream world. Sure, Dash had liked mares in the past, but she knew the chances of being in a relationship with somepony like Spitfire were next to none.
Then that feeling came back when she thought more about the golden mare, her fiery mane and those gorgeous eyes…
“No,” Rainbow said out loud as she stomped a hoof onto the cloud floor, only making her angrier because it didn’t give off the loud noise she was intending to hear. She sighed, shaking her head as she tried to deny the feelings her heart was pleading for her to accept.
Rainbow then realized something, she knew these feelings would soon go away and she also knew that even bringing up a conversation about it with the golden mare would probably get her off the team. She therefore decided to push everything out of the way for the time being. She had a job and a dream to fulfill, and nothing would get in the way of that. However, a part of her knew she wouldn’t be able to keep it in forever…
To be continued…

You are locked in a room, the walls are completely blank except for two doors; one is blue, and the other is red.
Behind one door is freedom, and behind the other is death.
