Chapter 2: Friendship?

Darklight was sitting on the couch in the living room, waiting for Twilight to finish her letter in her study. I can’t believe I’ll be getting help from Equestria’s monarch. It’s a good thing we came to Ponyville. I don’t think we could be luckier. Darklight thought to herself while being patient.

After several minutes of waiting, Twilight returned from her study while levitating a scroll with her magic. “I’ve finished the letter. I’ll have my assistant Spike to deliver it in the morning. Right now, he’s asleep. Shall we go to the welcoming party?” Darklight nodded in response.

As they stepped outside, they can see Luna’s moon now brightening the night and Twilight and Darklight were on their way to Sugarcube Corner. Darklight was starting to warm up to Twilight and her kindness. Making friends other ponies was never any interest to her. But after being encouraged by Twilight and being offered to stay at her library, Darklight decided to give ‘friendship’ a chance.

After second of leaving the library, Darklight and Twilight were walking side-by-side. There was nopony in sight; very few lights shining through windows of houses and faint party music can be heard in the distance. Darklight turned her head towards Twilight with a curious expression. “Hey, Twilight”, Darklight says with an indoor voice.

“Yes?”, Twilight replied with a smile.

“How do you… know so much about the Soulbound spell? And aren’t you scared that I’m a half-demon?”

Twilight could understand why she was asked such a question. She turned her head towards Darklight, still keeping the smile, and started to answer both questions.

“Well, as I said back at the library, I’m Princess Celestia’s star pupil. I learn from the best about magic and their history. And the reason I’m not scared of you is because; in recorded history, the ponies that perished from the spell did not have pure hearts. They were ponies reduced to the level of thievery, brutality and greed. You, on the other hoof, are the complete opposite. I can sense your aura with my magic and see that you’re a very good and strong pony.”

Twilight’s words put a surprised look on Darklight’s face. Darklight didn’t know how to respond to such kind and flattering words.

“Thank, Twilight.”, was all Darklight could say.

“You’re welcome, Darklight.”, Twilight said as the party music got louder and they found themselves at the entrance to Sugarcube Corner.

“Oh, we’re here. Darklight, why don’t you go find your little sister and I’ll introduce you to my friends? I think you’ll all get along swimmingly.”

Darklight had her hoof to her chin, still thinking about making friends. If Twilight already accepts me, even with my dark secret, I guess meeting her friends wouldn’t kill me. Darklight thought. Twilight was staring at Darklight, wondering why she was hesitating to answer.

“Darklight, is something wrong?”, Twilight asked with a worried expression.

Darklight finally snapped out of her trance and looked back at Twilight.

“Oh! Sorry, Twilight. I just had a lot on my mind just now. And I’d like to meet your friends. I’ll just go get Spirit. Oh, can you do me a favor, Twilight?”

“What is it?”

“Please don’t tell anypony about my… dark secret. I don’t want to make any enemies.”

“Don’t worry. I Pinkie Pie swear.”

“Pinkie Pie swear?” Darklight had a confused look on her face.

“Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye.” Twilight performed the pact of the Pinkie Pie promise.

“Oh, I see.”, Darklight said in a sarcastic tone.

Twilight let out a small chuckle and walked towards the front door. “Let’s go inside. We wouldn’t wanna miss the fun.”

“Okay.”
