The fatal error
Chapter Ten
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTwilight woke up in a hospital bed. She tried to get up, but the second she tried to move she felt a large surge of pain and jolted right back into position. She tried to speak but the only thing that came out was a groan. She heard a voice, she couldn't tell who's voice it was though, "Twilight, how do you feel?"
Twilight tried to open her mouth to answer, but nothing came out. She heard the voice calling her name again and again, slowly fading away. Twilight fell unconscious. Again.

It took Scootaloo a couple days to adjust to the horn on Rainbow's head. Rainbow had already mastered basic spells like levitation. Luna had offered Rainbow a position as her student, and she was currently doing well, considering she had been a unicorn for three days.
Luna had made sure that Twilight would be okay before leaving the hospital, they didn't really know what happened, but she was alive and should turn out fine. They did see major exhaustion, though. Even with the help of the ancient symbol, Twilight wasn't up to the task of casting that spell twice so quickly. Twilight was not in any life threatening danger, but it would take a week or so to recover.
Rainbow was going to the hospital to see how Twilight was holding up, hopefully she had been able to keep conscious for longer than a few minutes by now. Scootaloo was walking beside Rainbow. Scoots and Rainbow had already formed a strong bond in the short time Twilight had been gone. Rainbow walked up to the door to Twilight's room and asked the nurse if she could go in. The nurse replied yes, so she walked into the room to a barely-awake Twilight Sparkle, "Hey Twilight, how do you feel?"
Twilight looked awful, she had dark circles under her eyes and her eyelids were heavy, "Been better." Her voice was coarse, and she couldn't see very well.
Scootaloo walked into the room and next to Rainbow Dash, "Hey Twilight." Somehow, Scootaloo managed to bring a smile to Twilight's face. Twilight didn't know why yet, but when she was around, it was like having two Rainbow Dashes. It was like Pinkie and her Pinkie sense, she couldn't understand it and she wasn't going to try, for now anyway, "Hello Scootaloo."
Rainbow walked closer to Twilight and said, "I'm glad to see you're okay, I was pretty worried when I heard what happened." Twilight was rather surprised to hear this, she knew that Rainbow would be worried, but she wouldn't be caught dead showing those feelings. 'She has changed.' Twilight thought to herself. To be honest, Twilight expected change from Rainbow. She just wasn't expecting this, "Yeah, doctor said I was going to be fine. I'll only be here another day. How do you like the magic?"
"It's awesome! I've already learned how to levitate things and move them around. I'm still trying to do that teleporting thing though."
Twilight was incredibly surprised she could already do that. It had been three days. Three days. It took Twilight two weeks to learn to levitate things, "Wow, Rainbow. That is incredible. It took me a good part of two weeks to learn how to levitate objects."
Rainbow blushed a little at the compliment, but it was barely visible, if at all, "Yeah, well, you were probably a lot younger than me when you learned..."
Twilight was once again surprised by Rainbow's response. Twilight expected her to say something like, 'Yeah, well, I'm pretty awesome.' Twilight was tired, and she needed to think about more things, so she said the only thing she could think of at the moment, "Rainbow, I'm glad you stopped by, and you too Scootaloo, but I need to think about some things."
Rainbow understood, she tapped Scootaloo on the back and led her out of the room. She looked back and said, "I love you Twilight. I'll see you soon." With that, the two ponies left.
Twilight had a lot to think about, but for now, she needed to sleep.

Spitfire was finally done deciding on what to do. Ever since Rainbow had suggested that she quit, she had been in deep thought. She was rather surprised with herself that she never actually thought about it before. It took a while, but she decided that this would be an interesting town to settle down in. She was also rather bored of the same routine over and over again.
Once she announces that she quits, Soarin will become the new captain and she will be screwed over by the media for a week or two. She wanted a chance to meet some ponies that wouldn't craze over her being a wonderbolt, and she really wanted to get to know Dash. 'Huh' she thought, 'Maybe things will turn out ok for once...'
Spitfire wanted to explore Ponyville a little more, see if there was anywhere she could build a house, and she wanted to visit this 'Sugar Cube Corner' she kept hearing about, but for now, she had a letter to write.

Pinkie Pie knew what had happened to her, but her original self was not completely lost. She had been planning a HUGE party for Rainbow. She had originally planned to have the party the night Rainbow got out of the hospital, but she couldn't due to their plans and Twilight ending up in the hospital again. She had set the alternative date for the night Twilight got out. Anyway, Pinkie had managed to get Princess Luna to attend, she still didn't know how she did it herself, but she was grateful.
This was going to be the biggest party Pinkie had ever thrown, and she couldn't wait.

Twilight had just been released from the hospital, the doctors said she would be fine, she just needed to try to avoid extensive magic use for a couple weeks. She wondered how the two Princesses would have been able to perform that spell so easily. Twilight would probably never have to use that spell again. She wondered how Rainbow was doing with her magic and dealing with her new life. It must have been hard for her to lose everything she spent her entire life on in just seconds.
Twilight was almost completely awake, she would probably need a coffee or something. She decided the first place she would go would be the library. She started walking, then she remembered she could teleport, that wasn't extensive magic use right? Her horn started to glow and she focused on the front door to the library.
*Poof*
Twilight appeared in front of the library, the spell was harder to cast than it should of been, but she expected it. The door flung open and Twilight walked in. She walked into the kitchen and quickly made herself some coffee, "Hey Twi, didn't know you were out yet."
The voice surprised her and she quickly turned to see Rainbow inches away from her. Rainbow quickly kissed her, "Hey Twilight, Luna said she wanted to meet both of us at Sugar Cube Corner tonight at eight. She didn't tell me why, but I guess it's important."
Twilight looked at the clock on the wall and saw it was only three. She had time, "Alright, well that gives us quite a bit of time. Where's Scootaloo?"
"She's spending the night with Sweetiebelle and Applebloom at Fluttershy's house."
"Alright, what about Spike?"
"Last time I saw him he was sleeping."
Twilight smiled, she was glad things were going fine. If Rainbow was unhappy about any of this, she was hiding it very well. Twilight continued to question Rainbow, and Rainbow happily answered. The two talked for about twenty minutes then Rainbow decided she needed a nap. Twilight joined her, because she forgot about the coffee and it had gone cold, and better safe than sorry. She didn't want to show up at Sugar Cube Corner tired, especially since the Princess would be there.
The two walked up to the bedroom and eventually fell asleep in an embrace.
***
Twilight awoke with a start, hearing Rainbow calling, "Twilight! Twilight get up!"
Twilight slowly opened her eyes, surprised to not have light flood her vision. She heard again, "Twilight, get up!"
Twilight groaned and replied, "Just five more minutes..." Many people didn't know it, but Twilight was normally awful at getting up in the mornings, or any other time, really.
Rainbow was getting annoyed, so she decided to pull everything off of the bed, except Twilight, of course. The sheets and comforter of the bed were surrounded in a crimson aura and quickly flew to the opposite wall of the bed, "Twilight! Get up, we're going to be late!"
Twilight jumped as she felt the sudden lack of heat around her and she realized what time it was, "Horseapples! I'll be ready in a minute!" Twilight rushed into the bathroom and not thirty seconds later did she come out looking as if she had been awake for hours.
Rainbow's jaw dropped at how quick she got herself cleaned up, "How did you-"
"No time, lets go!" Rainbow shook away her astonishment and followed Twilight down the flight of stairs and out the door. They 'napped' longer than anypony should have the privilege to.
After a minute of running, Twilight asked, "How long did we sleep?"
Rainbow replied, "A long time." Rainbow noticed Twilight was tiring quickly, so she slowed down. Twilight noticed and slowed to meet her pace. Rainbow could have kept up her sprinting pace for another few minutes before having to slow down, but she didn't want to leave Twilight behind. They were only a few minutes out from Sugar Cube Corner, they might just make it in time.
They finally rounded a corner and saw the building. They both slowed to a walking pace in order to catch their breath and make it seem like they didn't just wake up. They stopped in front of the door and shared a quick kiss before entering.
Twilight went in first. The first thing she noticed was that is was dark, "Hello, anypony th-"
"SURPRISE!" The lights came on and at least forty ponies shouted at the same time. The other half of them were off by just seconds. Twilight yelled and fell backwards and Rainbow almost fell back but recovered quickly and started laughing. Rainbow helped Twilight up and then asked, "Hey Pinkie, whats the occasion?"
Pinkie energetically bounced through the crowd and yelled, "You don't need an occasion to PAAARTAAAY!" As if on que, the music started blasting. Rainbow turned to Twilight and asked, "I thought she was supposed to be no-"
"Stop. My brain is already hurting."
Rainbow didn't question and the two of them split up to see their friends. Rainbow also made a mental note to stay away from the punch. Being a veteran of Pinkie's parties, she knew it was almost always spiked. The only time it wasn't was when they were throwing a welcome party. Rainbow turned back to warn Twilight then she though, 'Huh. I never have seen Twilight drink. This could be fun.' and decided against warning her. She turned to the table where the refreshments were, and sure enough, Twilight was already getting a drink.
Rainbow was looking around for some of her friends, and to her surprise, she saw Princess Luna, and she was walking towards her. Rainbow pretended like she didn't notice, but the Princess could see right through it. Luna walked up and started speaking, "Hello, Rainbow Dash."
Rainbow pretended to be surprised and responded, "Oh hey Princess, I didn't see you there."
Luna rolled her eyes and decided to play along, "Sorry to surprise you."
"Oh no trouble at all Princess, always nice to see you."
"You know, you're very lucky."
"Huh?"
"Your marefriend happens to be one of three ponies stronger than me. Magically of course."
A few questions entered her head, "Who are the other two?"
"Celestia, and..." She paused for effect, "you"
Rainbow was taken completely by surprise and another hundred questions entered her mind, "W-what? Me?"
"Yes. If you want to step outside I can explain it better."
Rainbow just nodded mouth agape and followed her outside. They walked through the crowd and out the door, "Alright, well you know where the source of all magic is right?" Luna started.
"Umm... no."
"Well, for almost all unicorns it comes from a star named Stiurlet 500,000 miles from this planet. This star is mostly made of energy, and the unicorns have the ability to use this energy for any purpose. However, there are some exceptions. Celestia and I created the Solar and Lunar orbs, or the Sun and the Moon, in this galaxy. I harvest my power from the moon, and Celestia from the sun. When Twilight was born, after some magic surge she had, she was somehow able to use energy from the sun, and that hasn't changed, and never will. When she changed your race, you inherited the same energy source that she has. The sun is made of pure energy, technically giving the three ponies connected to it unlimited power, but all three of you will never be able to use it to its full extent, and even if you did, the insane amount of energy you would be using would kill you after using it. Another interesting thing is that You and Twilight are able to use Celestial magic allowing you to control the Sun and Moon. Celestia and I would normally put restraints on your magic to only allow you to use it to a specific extent, but we know you would not do anything harmful with your magic. Please do not prove us wrong."
Rainbows mouth was agape as she listened intently. The last part of her speech finally registered and she responded, "We won't. Don't worry." She regained her composition quickly. Rainbow was curious about one other thing, completely unrelated to the current topic, "Hey, Princess, can I ask you something?"
"Yes, of course"
"Do you and Celestia have to sleep?"
Luna chuckled a bit, "Yes, but not as often as normal ponies do. We only have to sleep once every couple weeks."
"That is so awesome."
Luna chuckled again, "Well, shall we return to the party?"
Rainbow got up, "After you, Princess." The two returned to the party and got back to partying.
This was going to be a long night.
***
Twilight and Rainbow were just leaving the party as it ended. Rainbow was utterly surprised at how Twilight managed to stay sober. She drank a lot of the 'punch'.
It seemed like only seconds when the two arrived at the library. It had been a rather long night, they had been at the party for three hours, but it seemed like five. They would never say it to Pinkie's face, but that party was rather... dull.
Even though they had been out partying for hours, Twilight didn't quite want to end it yet, so she said something rather obvious, "You know, this is the last time we'll be alone for a while..."
A grin appeared on Rainbow's face. She knew where this was going. She thought 'This is going to be perfect.' She also thought they would have a perfect life together. Thought.

Sorry guys. Just sorry. It should not have taken me this long, I shouldn't have ended it like this. The only reason I did end it like this is because I couldn't find a proper spot to end it, so I just did. It wasn't supposed to be this long, but it was. Anyway, the sequel should be longer. I would make it a completely separate story, but it requires everything in this story to make sense.
