Mastering the Elements 2: The Unicorn Chronicles

Chapter 3

It’s been a few days since the nightmare; everything was normal back in ponyville. Flower Power was still training with Rarity and one day Flower Power was offered to join Rarity and Spike on a trip.

“A trip to where?” asked Flowers

“Well I’m running low on gems from this order I received to make dresses for the mares of the Crystal Empire from Princess Cadence and I heard rumor about an old mine a bit past the train tracks leading to Canterlot and I thought you can help me get some gems.” said Rairty

“Come on Flowers. It’s going be great.” said Spike “It’s always fun to go gem searching, not to mention I heard that mine have some rare never before seen gems.” with his mouth watering, “I wonder how they’ll taste.”

“Well it does sound exciting so I guess I’m in and maybe I can learn that gem magic you always talk about Rarity.” said Flower Power

So by the next morning they made their hike up the mountain. Flower Power was stuck carrying the wagon, spike was carrying a shovel while riding in the wagon and rarity was walking up ahead to lead the way.

“Now it should be much further. I can sense the gems around here.” said Rarity

“Ugh. That’s was what you said ten minutes ago.” said Spike “I’m exhausted.”

“Why are you tired if I’m the one carrying your weight?” said Flower Power

As they got closer, Flowers was slowing down as he looked ahead as saw old rusted mine carts, pickaxes, chains. Eventually he froze in place.

“Flower? Is something wrong?” asked Spike

“…. Rarity. How old is this mine?” asked Flower Power

“Well some Say it’s was opened since the times when the two ruled together before Nightmare Moon. Maybe even older. It closed down because of some earthquake” Rarity looked around and found a pile or rubble. “We’re here now. O.k. now start shoveling to get the entrance open while I get ready to search for gems.

“Very well.” said Flower Power as he grabs the shovel with magic to get started. As the shovel the way in, Flower Power starts feel the ground move. “What was that?”

“What?” said spike

“Hm… must be my imagination.” said Flower Power. As they continued to dig, Flower Power hit something hard, it wasn’t a rock because it felt to smooth to be one. He soon uncovered the rest to be a wooden plank with words on it. “Abandoned. No pony allowed in, by the order of King Galaxy.” He stood there frozen in realization of where he was.

“Erick? You O.K.… what did you see?” Spike check on what he saw but was they were both blown away by a sudden explosion. They both held in their breath as the bomb was a smoke bomb.

Rarity went to check if they were alright and saw three familiar figures from the smoke. “Not you brutes again?”

“Get the pony.” said one shadow figure

“Quickly before they get up.” said another as they picked up Rarity and tied her up.

“Boss will be proud now that we have her back.” said a third figure

The smoke cleared as Spike and Flowers saw that it was three Diamond Dogs that had Rarity.

“Not you three again!” said Spike

“Spike, Flower; You have to Save Me!” said Rarity as they started to burrow down and cover their hole so they can’t follow them.

“Rarity! NOOOOOOOOO!” said spike “Flower Power we have to go save her.”

Flower Power was still frozen until spike slapped him to consciousness. “Ow, what happen?”

“Rarity was just kidnapped by diamond dogs and we have to save her.” said Spike

“No way, we’re too outnumbered. We have to back for help” said Flowers

“But if we do, they might seal up the entrance.” said Spike. They both continued to argue back and forth about their course of action. “Why won’t you go help her!? I thought she was your fri-“

“Because it’s my death site! There I said it.” yelled Flower Power

“What?”

“Look spike, this mine was open when me and the princesses were still foals. When I was caught, their father banishment me to work here forever, wrapped in chains so I couldn’t escape. But then, an earthquake happened and a few fellow miners died under the rubble. The rest made it out… except for me. I soon died of starvation, if it happen been for Starswirl.”

“I didn’t know.” said Spike

“It’s o.k. no one else knew a foal was trapped in there. So that’s why I can’t. It’ll bring back to many memories.” said Spike

“Well, if you can’t do it, then I guess it’s up to Me.” said Spike as he slowly walked into the mine, but it was a trap as he went in deeper, two paws appeared to make the entrance collapse.

“Spike look out!” said Flower Power as he rushed in and pushed he towards the cave along with him. “Oh dear Celestia no!” said Flower Power as he tried to dig his way out. “No no no no no. not again, please open, please” said Flower Power as he started to hyperventilate.

Spike soon slapped him across his face. “Snap out of it. We’re stuck in here, and it’s up to us to save Rarity, and get out of here. O.k.”

“….o.k.” said Flower Power as he got up. “Well then, if I recall, right now we can only go down but then there’s a split soon.” He then found a mining cart and put spike on it. “We came here for gems, so we’ll collect as we travel.”

So they went down and got some gems as found the split, they went down to the right only to find a dead end, so they went back and went left where they found an unknown gem that Rarity was talking about.

“Wow, never seen this one before.” said Spike as he grabbed it. It was red like ruby, but hot as coal, so he dropped it. “Ouch, that was hot.”

“These are burst gems, when we ran out of dynamite, we found these as used them instead. They explode with heat, and can cause a chain reaction to others surrounding It.” he used his horn to illuminate the wall and saw it was covered by them. “Alright spike use your dragon flame. we can make a new path.”

So Spike blew his flame on the gem and it started glowing, Flower bucked it away from them while they took cover and the explosion blew open a new hole to go through. “Nice job Spike. Now then onward.”

As they continued down their path, they collect more diamonds, encountered some diamond dogs trying to ambush them, but with Flower’s and Spike’s quick thinking, they managed to scared them off, they soon made to an impasse as they found an empty chasm.

“Great, now what do we do?” said Spike

Flower Power looked around as saw some train tracks on their right. “The way we made it to other side was to ride the tracks.” he they pushed the mine cart on the tracks and flipped a switch to see if the track still worked and the cart would move. Luck was shining down on them as it worked.

“Way to go Flowers.” said Spike as he looked for another cart for them to ride on, they both jump on it and started riding on it.

The ride would soon be interrupted as they saw a diamond dog, riding on a track below with a cart full of burst gems. “Uh oh” said both. “So long and thanks for the gems.” said the diamond dog and he got a box of matches and started light and throwing the gems in front of their track. It was then when they took it seriously and started ducking and jumping from the explosions, and falling stalactites, also more dogs riding on the other tracks. Eventually both they and the cart of diamonds made it out in one piece.

Soon they ventured forward more and found themselves running from a hoard of crystal bats, swimming through an underground river that formed over the years since the earthquake, until they made to an underground train station, guarded by diamond dogs.

“O.k. we need to stay quiet and go around them.” whispered Flower Power

Spike peeked over their hiding spots and spotted what they were looking for. “Flowers look.” said spike as they saw the diamond dogs that took Rarity with her on the train.

“Looks like we’re almost to the boss little pony.” laughed the dog. “Boss will be very happy with us.”

“O.k. Spike no need to act heroic, we must think of a plan.” Flower then turned to see spike gone and running with a handful of burst gems. “Oh great.”

“Let Rarity go, or face my gems.” said Spike heroically.

“Drat, I though you would be crushed by now, no matter.” The dog then threw rarity to the train and blew the whistle to start the engine. “So long dragon, and good riddance.”

“No, no, no.” said spike as he tried to chase him, but was too slow. “Now what do we do?”

Just as he had spoken, Flower power was on the track with the diamond cart in front and a manual power chart to push it. “Get on.” said Flowers as they both started to crank the carts to catch up to the train.

They soon were right behind it. “O.k. spike connect the cart together with theirs.” said Flower as spike connected them. As they stepped on their carts, they started to shake, “Jump.” said Flower Power as a diamond dog tried to bite them and they stomped on their faces, eventually they conductor set his carts to fall off the rails and the chase was back on.
This pattern continued for a while until the conductor had enough and tried to take them on personally, but his effort was proven to be useless because they beat him and took back rarity. They jumped of the train because they were reaching a dead end to a giant pit, when they jumped, their fall was softened by a pile of gems surrounding them.

“You o.k. miss Rarity?” said Flower Power.

“My heroes.” said Rarity and she wrapped both of them by her hooves.

“Nah, spike’s the real hero, I didn’t wanted to come here for good reasons, but at least your safe now.”

“Not to mention we just hit the jackpot, look at all these gems.” said Spike and he got one and ate it. “Enough for your order and me.”

“You deserve it, my little hero Spikey-wikey.” said Rarity as she gave him a peck on the cheek and he fainted. Just then the ground started to shake because of a thundering boom.

“WHO’S EATING MY GEMS?”

“Looks like we’re not out of the woods yet.” said Flower Power as the remaining diamond dogs gathered around the pit chanting “show them your power boss.”

Just then, claws were being risen from underground, a giant figure was shadowing over Flower Power and his friends, it would soon turn out to be a dragon that buried itself under the gems the diamond dogs have been collecting.
“Oh this could be bad.” said Flower Power as the dragon took in his breath. When the dragon breathed out fire, with quick thinking, both Rarity and Flower Power used their magic to create a gem barrier to avoid getting burned. “There no way we can beat this thing.” said Flower Power

Just then Rarity came up with an idea, it was reckless, but it’s their only chance of surviving. “O.K. boys, spike eat as much gems as you can, me and Flowers Will cover you.” Said Rarity

The plan went by smoothly as Spike got full, then came the twist as Rarity let herself get captured by the dragon. “Spike you have to save me!”

Just then, Spike emerged from the gems and told him one warning, “Let her go.” but the dragon would soon flick him out of his sight like a bug, suddenly the ground shook again as another pair of claws came out and grabbed Flower Power.

“SPIKE WANT PONY!” said spike as he grew to an adult dragon, he then put Flower Power on his head to keep him save and he went toe-to-toe with the other dragon. Eventually Spike was victorious as the dragon dug a hole to flee from the fight and left Rarity behind. Spike grew tired and turned back into a baby dragon. The diamond dogs then surrounded them.

“Rarity take Spike and stay behind me.” said Flower Power, but instead they all bowed to the three of them

“Thank you for freeing us from his rule.” said a dog

“We only kidnapped her because she could help us get gems, so we can be freed.” said another dog

“What should we do Flowers?” asked Rarity

“Only one though is coming to me right now.” said Flower Power. A few minutes later, the dogs were all waiting in line to get their portion of gems from the pile the dragon kept.

“Thank you kind ponies.” said the dogs as they all left with their gems and left one mine cart for them.

“Well that was very generous of you Flower. Most ponies would’ve forced them to do awful things.” said Rarity

“Hey, it wasn’t their fault and besides they found these gems, so it’s rightfully theirs.” said Flower Power as his flank glowed and another petal turned white with a diamond in the center.

“Looks like you found generosity fellow.” said Rarity “But now we’re stuck here with no way out.”

Spike soon woke up from his sleep. “Hey everypony, did we make it out yet?”

“Not yet.” said Flower Power as he pointed at a cavern that was behind the pile of gems from before. “This way, I may have an idea.”

As they walk further through the cavern, Rarity and spike noticed a few odd things. A pickax made for foals, chains and cuffs, drawing on the walls that resembles dairy entries, they soon stopped at a dead end where it showed an old candle, helmet, and a quilt and paper. “Here we are.” said Flower Power

“It’s just a dead end, why did we come here?” said Rarity as she noticed spike get off the cart to comfort Flower Power. He then picked up the note to read out loud

-While I lie here, I look back to what I had; a father, two wonderful friends, and a great, but short life.

Rarity had a small tear in her eye. “This was where you died? Wasn’t it?”

“technically speaking, yes, but it’s o.k. because this is where we’ll make our escape.” said Flower Power. His horn glowed as he called out to his step father, a portal open in front of them as Flower power stepped through and invited Spike and Rarity to follow. They entered the realm and soon found Starswirl waiting for them

“Hello father.” said Flower Power as he hugged him

“So this is starswirl?” said Rarity “It is an honor to meet one of Equestria’s famous unicorns.”

“Wow. My friend Twilight loves your work in the fields of magic.” said Spike

“Now then Father, I need your help to open a portal near the Crystal Empire.” asked Flower Power

“That’s one difficult task.” said Starswirl. “But not impossible. Now then I want you and your friend to join hooves together. Think of your Destination, and transfer all your magic into me.”

They did what they asked as after a few minutes, another portal opened up in front of them showing an entire city made of crystal. “Looks like this is our stop.” said Spike as he pushed the cart out of the portal.

“Farewell mister Starswirl.” said Rarity as she left

“Goodbye dad. Also I made progress.’ said Flower Power as he showed him the generosity petal on his flank. “I’m halfway done. Goodbye for now.” said Flowers as his step father waved bye to him.

Eventually they would be visited by another alicorn and a white stallion. “Rarity, Spike, are you two o.k.? we saw a portal and saw you two walk out of it.” asked the alicorn

“We’re fine your highness and we have your supply of gems for the dresses I need to make.” said Rarity. “… oh and this is my alicorn friend, Flower Power. Flowers, I would like you to meet Princess Cadence and her husband, Shining Armor. The rulers of the Crystal Empire”

“It’s very nice to meet you both in person.” said Flower Power

“Thank you.” said Cadence

“You know I heard a lot about you through letters from my sister Twiley and Princess Celestia and Luna.” said Shining Armor

“Really, what do they say?” asked Flower Power

“Nothing but good things about you,” said Shining Armor

“That’s nice.” said Flowers

“and not to mention how much in love you and Luna are.” said Cadence mockingly

Flowers then turned red. “I told her not until my training’s done.”

“Anyways, you three look tired; we’ll take you and your gems to our Palace, where you spend the night to get some rest.

“Sounds like a plan.” said Spike. It soon became night, it was a full moon and everypony was asleep and the night guards were on patrol, Flower Power got up around the time before sunrise because he wanted to, being the good pony he is, to check on the gems and have them ready for Rarity. He looked around for a guard to guide him to where they kept the cart at. Spike followed Flower Power as well because he wanted to do that as well for the pony he loves.

“Alright Spike, everything seems to be in order.” said Flower Power

“Yep, but how I about I get a pre-breakfast snack.” said Spike as he got one gem and was about to eat it, but Flower Power smacked it out of his claws

“Spike these are Rarity’s now,” said Flower Power as he yawned. “Now help me find it. I think it went in that direction.”

They searched the room and couldn’t find it “Well we looked everywhere.” said Flower Power to himself, he then turned to a mirror “Maybe it’s behind the mirror.” he there touched the mirror, thinking it would tilt, but instead his hoof went through it. “What the?”

“Hey Flower you found it yet?” said Spike as he looked towards Flowers Direction. “Flowers don’t!” yelled Spike as Flowers fell in due to him being surprised by Spike’s warning. He then followed Flower Power into the mirror to pull him out, but Flower Power’s weight was too heavy and got pulled in instead. The sun would soon come up right after the two fell in sealing their only way in or out.
