Prologue- One Hell of a Night
Luke grumbled as he looks at his watch again. It read 8:23, but Alex was supposed to be meeting him at straight up 8 PM. Alex was Luke's soon-to-be girlfriend, and was extremely excited to ask her out. He was lifelong friends with Alex, and was planning to ask her out after seeing a movie with her. She'll be here... I know it. She's just late. He thinks to himself, looking around again. Suddenly, he feels what he assumes to be a raindrop land on his head. Looking up, he sees nothing, and is about to keep looking for Alex. But the he notices the moon. Luke was in awe of two things: How he never noticed it, and how large it was. He continues to stare up at the moon, mindlessly.
As time passes while he looks up, he feels as if he was asleep, but more alert than he ever had been. He tries to understand this sensation, but fails to even move from his spot. Luke watches the moon slowly rise and fall, dumbstruck by it's beauty. As the moon begins to fall over the distance, he feels warmth behind him. Finally turning away, he sees sees the sun, beginning it's ascension into the sky.
Wait... The sun..? How long have I been out here? He asks himself, looking at his watch in a hurry. It read 6:57, and Luke begins to run home. Nonono... How could I have spent that long waiting? He thinks to himself, before getting back to his house. "Hey, I'm home!" He quickly shouts to his parents, ignoring their screams asking where he was. Luke hurries to get ready for school, and feels his head begin to throb. Moaning, he takes it as he was being tired, and continues to get ready. He throwing on a jacket, he reaches for his backpack to leave, but feels his consciousness begin to fade. Falling to the ground, his vision blurs and he pass out. Getting darker, The only thing that stayed was the faint outline of the moon he had seen the night before. Even that begins to fade, and he passes out completely.
Princess Luna trots throughout her castle in Canterlot, happy as could be. She looks out the windows lining the halls, and watches the moon as she continues on her way in the hall. It truly was elegant, and her night was as beautiful as it could possibly be. She breaks her vision from the her moon, and continues on her way to visit her sister. The cold castle echoed her hoofsteps, as Luna stepped into the throne room. She entered to see Celestia speaking to a guard quietly. As she approached, Celestia stopped her conversation with the guard, and greets Luna with a large hug. "Hello there, sister." Luna says as she pulls back from the hug. The two spoke briefly about the state of Equestria, before saying their goodbyes.
The blue mare leaves the room, glancing again at the moon. Her horn begins to slowly radiate a dull pain. Rubbing her forehead, she returns to her lookout to continue her watch of the night. She watches the night, as the pain from her horn begins to grow larger and larger. The pain grew to the point where she was unable to continue her watch, and she simply returned to her bedroom. Rolling into her bed she laid herself out in pain, as she looked out her window. Some time later, the sun began to rise, and the pain grew exponentially. Luna's consciousness begins to fade, and her eyes close shut.
Luke feels the light of the sun begin to beam down onto his face, and he begins to stir. He feels the heat begin to beam heat down onto his face, and the light making sleep impossible. Luke feels himself laying on a mattress. Ah... Mom must have moved me to my bed... I was only a few feet away from it after all. Knowing sleep would not be possible with the brightness of the sun beaming down from a nearby window.
Luke reaches to rub his face, but notices something is wrong based on that short feeling alone: His fingers were gone. He couldn't feel or move theme at all. Shooting his eyes open, all he sees in his face is a dark blue nub. "W-what the hell is going on?!?" He shrieks, freaked out by the color and lack of fingers. Then, he noticed the second thing that was off: His voice. "Wait..." He utters slowly. Yeah, it's much higher... He thinks to himself, beginning to look around the room he was in. "This isn't my room, either..."
Just then, Luke's confusion begins to rise even more, as a white horse wearing armor bursts into the door, shouting. "Princess! Are you alright?" the stallion asked, bowing before the bed Luke was sitting in.
Blinking, Luke feels uneasy, not sure what he should say. "Uh... me?" he asks, pointing the blue nub of an arm at himself.
"Yes, Princess Luna. You shouted earlier and I rushed over to see what was the matter," the stallion says, looking at Luke with a confused expression.
"Uhm... You can go. I just saw a rather large bug," Luke says, assuming the role of this 'Princess Luna' person while he figures out what to do.
"Very well, Princess. I shall leave you alone now," the horse said, leaving the room.
Okay... I'm alone again... Luke thinks to himself, attempting to get out of the bed like he normally would. As soon as he tried to stand, he fell flat to the ground. Okay, well, THAT didn't work. Luke begins to push himself up, standing on all fours. Strangely for Luke, this felt somehow... right. He was able to move about normally on all fours, or at least easier than he could earlier. Moving normally, he begins to move to a mirror he spotted in the room. His jaw drops, and he steps closer to the mirror. His reflection showed a horse with wings and a horn staring back at him. A star-studded mane and tail flowing as if the night sky was still out. Wait... That white horse that came in here... he said princess... Luke realizes he's not just a talking horse in a weird room: He's a female talking horse in a weird room.
Luna- Where are my guards when I need them?
Princess Luna yawns, stretching her arms out. Thank goodness my head is feeling better. I should probably go see if any kind of chaos erupted in Equestria during that time I was out of commission... the mare thinks to herself, rolling out of bed. Stepping out with her front hooves, Luna immediately falls down out of the bed. "Well, that didn't go how I assumed it would..." She says out loud, rubbing the back of her head with her right hoof.
Luna moves herself from the awkward position, and begins to step down with her back hooves from the bed. Almost as soon as all four hooves hit the floor, Luna collapses due to the position being too uncomfortable. As the confused mare tries to figure out why she can't stand up normally, she looks about the room. "This isn't my room..." She mutters to herself, looking about at the walls and floor. Scared, Luna scoots herself back, up against a wall. "W-where am I?" she shouts at her captors, "Where is my sister?"
Hoofsteps are heard off in the distance, and Luna braces herself for her captor to open the door. In walks a strange looking beast walking on it's back hooves alone. The unusual creature approaches Luna with a concerned expression, and hugs her. "Oh, Luke! I am so glad you are okay! When I saw you passed out on the floor, I was so worried about you!"
Luna feels the embrace, and senses that this person means her no harm. However, she made some errors with her story. "You are incorrect, but you can be dismissed. Please bring my guards here, so they can escort us to my sister. We shall settle things as soon as she is present." Luna says, staring at the creature coldly. It looks right back at the Princess, and rolls her eyes.
"Listen, Luke, I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I think you need more rest. I'll be downstairs if you need me." She says, backing off from Luna, and leaving the room without another word.
Luna isn't sure what to make of what the creature said. It got her name wrong twice, and said she fell asleep off of the bed. However, it's movement didn't seem unnatural to it whatsoever. "Could I get around like that..?" she asks to herself, deciding to try it out. As she shifts her weight and tries to stand on her hind legs, she realizes that it almost seems somewhat natural. Standing up straight, she moves her left hind leg to take a small step. After falling on her face about thirty times, Luna begins to get the hang of getting around. Clapping her hooves in excitement, Luna thinks to herself, Oh, I cannot wait to show this to Celestia! She shall be so envious of my new talent!
She begins to walk circles around the room, happy as could be, before taking a moment to look in the mirror on the dresser. Getting up close to it, she sees that not only was she not herself, but she was whatever species that other creature was when it entered her room, albeit different clothing. Her hooves were replaced by tentacled atrocities, her horn and wings were gone, and worst of all, her beautiful mane was gone!
Before she could scream, a peculiar vibrating feeling sounded off in her leg. She quickly slaps the strange sensation with her tentacled appendage, and a small rectangular item came out of that part of her leg. The rectangle continues to vibrate, and Luna looks at it in fear. Seconds pass, and it is still vibrating, and Luna goes over the edge and hits it with a tentacle of hers.
"Hey, Luke? You there?" Suddenly rang out quietly in the room. Luna's eyes darted beyond control, looking for the source of the unknown male voice. "Luke? C'mon, say something. You can't be that sick," it calls out, Luna frozen in horror.
"W-where is this voice coming from? Show yourself, foul creature!" Luna cries out, watching her life fall apart bit by bit.
"I'm- Ah, screw it. I'm just gonna stop by. I'll be there in a few minutes." The voice said, followed by three deep beeps. Luna cringes, knowing whatever was speaking to her would be arriving momentarily. The agonizing minutes pass, and the terrified mare hears the opening of a door in the distance echo throughout the building. Backing herself back into a corner, Luna watches at the door to her prison begins to open. Another one of the strange hind leg walking creatures enters the room, carrying a small stack of papers and books.
"Hey, Luke. I brought what assignments you missed at school today," the strange being states, setting the stack on a desk in the room.
"Luke..." Luna thinks out loud, starting to piece things together. "Who is this Luke person, and where am I?" She asks in the most polite, yet dignified way, hoping to get a little bit of information out of this creature.
Sighing, the creature points at Luna's refection in the Mirror. "See that guy? In the mirror? That's Luke. And you're in your home. On earth. Now, can you please stop asking stupid questions?" It asks, clearly annoyed by Luna's questions.
"I... I don't know of an Earth. All I've ever known is Equestria." Luna says, looking away from the annoyed beast, in shame. "As it would seem, I am not only inhabiting a foreign body, but a foreign world as well..." The creature raises an eyebrow, looking at Luna's small display. "Please! Listen to me, and my plight! I am not this 'Luke' you creatures seem to confuse me as, and perhaps you would believe me if I told you about who I truly am!" Luna declares boldly, as a tear drops down her face.
Luke- Breakfast at Twilight
Luke sighed, flailing himself across the bed. “How… How did this happen?” he quietly asks himself, looking down at his front hooves. “Plus, if I’m here, does that mean this ‘Luna’ is in my body? If so…” He stops himself there, not wanting to think of how ruined his life would be if he was able to return.
His mope session was then interrupted by a very familiar feeling: hunger. His stomach growls and Luke slowly begins to get up out of bed. Okay… I’ll just get some food, and bring it back here. No problem, right? He thinks, approaching the door slowly.
As he stepped closer to the door to an unknown world, he noticed something sitting on a shelf: A crown. “Might as well, to avoid some attention,” He thinks, reaching out with a hoof. Forgetting he no longer had fingers or thumbs, he simply pushes the crown back on the dresser. “Oh… right.” He remembers glumly. He eventually gets the crown on after a good ten minutes of trying, using both of his front hooves. Luke then turns back to the door, and pushes it open.
The room Luke was in all morning was rather large, but the room he then found himself standing in was even more tremendous. Luke gulps, and exits the room cautiously, and reaches the center of the room. Taking his time, he looks around the room he was in and notices three things of interest. The first of which was above the door he just exited, a large moon was hung, looking identical to the tattoo he found on his ass. The second was a similarly large door with a sun hung over it. It struck Luke as odd, as there were two doors of equal size, but he was the princess. Luke assumed there was simply another princess, and continued off to the third item of interest: The hallway out.
Luke trotted as normally as he could, not wanting to draw much attention to himself. The guards posted every so often didn’t seem to notice anything out of the ordinary, and Luke was able to pass by them. After a while of quiet walking, other gargantuan then sat in front of him, and Luke sighed, looking at two guards speaking to each other. Luke grinned to himself, and made another realization: he’s their princess. “Um, can you two open this door for me? Pretty please?” he asked in the most adorable way he could bear.
Quickly stammering to attention, the two guards quickly shouted, “Y-yes ma’am!” before rushing to hold open the door for Luke.
“Thank you, but I have one more favor to ask: Can you escort me to food? I’m starving!” He asks bluntly, rubbing his stomach.
The two guards look at each other, noticing Luke’s change in tone. Luke’s eyes widen, realizing he made a mistake. One of guards nods and returns to their post, as quickly trots ahead of Luna. “Please, follow me, Princess,” He says, looking back at Luke.
After breathing a sigh of relief, Luke silently begins to follow the guard through a seemingly endless maze of corridors. Suddenly, the guard stops, and gestures to a door. “I shall have the chef prepare your favorite meal and bring it in here. You can just sit in your sister’s throne, if that would better suit you, Princess,” the stallion says quietly, before trotting quickly away.
Luke nods at the moving horse, and extends his right hoof to open the door. Beyond the door, Luke was astounded by what he saw. Stained glass windows outlined the room, beautifully made in every way. Luke pays close attention to each and every window, but stops when he noticed one in particular. The picture depicted what appeared to be two horses, one of which was this Luna, and a white one with wings and a horn as well, flying in counter clockwise motion around some creature he had never seen before. It looked as if it was made of multiple different animals, as if it couldn’t make up what it wanted to be. Luke stared at this glass, trying to figure it out with no luck.
Luke drudgingly continued, looking at all of the glass, and reached the throne. He sits down like how he assumed a magical talking horse would, and waited for his food. After a few minutes of waiting, he remembers an important detail: he’s getting the Princess’s favorite meal prepared by a royal chef. Luke begins to imagine the different kinds of wonderful things that could be brought out to him, and he even catches himself drooling at the thought of how good it will taste.
At long last, the guard rushes in to the room, carrying a place between his teeth. He stops in front of Luke, setting the plate down right in front of him. “Please, enjoy your meal, Princess,” the guard bows, rushing out of the throne room again.
Luke ignores the words, and looks down at the plate, licking his lips. With what little culinary knowledge he had, it looked like a crêpe his mom would get when they went to fancy restaurants for breakfast. Luke contemplates how to eat without silverware or fingers, and the only way he could, would be like an animal. Rolling his eyes at the irony, Luke leans down and begins to manipulate the crêpe with his mouth, eventually getting enough leverage with it to take a bite. The starving Luke bites down on the baked good, and his eyes shoot open in shock; it was the best thing he had ever tasted. However, he couldn’t quite figure out what was in the crêpe, he loved it regardless.
As he leans in to take another bite, Luke catches a glimpse of the inside. Luke really was curious as to its main ingredient, and adjusts himself properly to see its inside. Inside, Luke sees a small collection of daffodils and daises. Luke gulps, as he closes his eyes to finish his meal. Slightly disgusted with himself for eating that, Luke decides the best thing for him to do at this point is to simply go back to his room and think things out.
Leaving his plate where it was set, Luke stands up, and trots over to the door. He stops right in front of the exit out of the throne room, wanting to take a deep breath before he left. He looks back at the throne room, feeling a hint of sadness for the girl whose life he unintentionally stole, before looking back at the door. He takes a step, before noticing a fast clopping noise coming from the hallway. The door glows a purple aura, and swings open. Luke hadn’t even had a chance to even touch it, and in ran a purple horse, right into Luke. Both Luke and the other horse were knocked down in the crash, but the purple one got up quicker and rushed to Luke’s side. “Luna! Are you alright?” She cried, extending a hoof out to Luke.
“Y-yeah, I think so,” Luke says, reaching out to other mare’s hoof.
The purple horse helps Luke up, before more apologies than Luke could count. Luke looks closely at the mare, and notices a few important details. She had both wings and a horn as well, and was on the stained glass earlier in the room. “Who are you?” he mutters, staring at the other horse. She narrows her eyes, taking a closer look at Luke.
“Actually…” the purple one said, examining Luke completely. “I think the better question is who are you?”
Luke’s eyes widen in fear, as the purple horse had apparently figured him out already. Her horn begins to glow, and a beam shoots out at Luke. Luke braces himself to be killed by a horse that can shoot lasers, and feels the beam make contact. However, Luke felt no pain. He quickly examines himself, and realizes that nothing had even happened to him.
As confused as Luke looked, the other horse in the room looked even more confused. “Well, if you aren’t a changeling, you must be the real Luna…” She said, eyeing Luke carefully.
“Wait… You’re right.” Luke whispers, feeling a bit of guilt. “Please, follow me back to my room. I will explain, and maybe you can help me.” Luke exits the throne room, with the purple one just as confused as could be.
“So… let me get this straight: You’re from a world where creatures stand on two legs, have appendages on their hooves, and no real magic, and you just woke up here in Luna’s body without any explanation?” Twilight said, looking at Luke carefully.
“Yes, you would be correct… I know you probably don’t believe me though, so do what you want,” Luke said, watching Twilight Sparkle trot back in forth throughout the room.
“Actually, you’re wrong. I do believe you,” Twilight declares, halting in front of Luke. “After all, I’m fairly certain I’ve been to your world for a visit before.”
Luke’s eyes glow in excitement, extremely pleased to hear her trust his story. “So, you can help me, right? No problems?”
“I can try, but I can’t guarantee anything. It’s not like I can hop between the worlds whenever I choose, or just use a spell to fix all of this. I’d need to figure out what exactly happened, which could take some time, and then find the right way to fix it, which could take just as long,” Twilight says, looking sadly at Luke. “However, what I can do right now is help you out here. There’s plenty you’ll want to know, like magic, flying or the mo-“ Twilight stops herself there, and immediately begins to freak out.
“Nonono! Oh, how are we going to get you to raise the moon?” Twilight says, looking at Luke again with a very concerned expression.
“What do you mean by ‘raise the moon’?” Luke asks, not quite sure if Twilight was talking about the actual moon.
“You are Princess Luna, and your sister is Princess Celestia,” Twilight begins to explain. “You both have an important job BESIDES running Equestria. Celestia raises the sun in the morning, and you are supposed to raise the moon at night. Normally, I would say I could help you do this, but I’m not strong enough. My magic isn’t as powerful as Luna or Celestia’s… “
“Raise the MOON? How can I possibly do that? Can’t we see if Celestia can just do it for me while we try to get things settled?” Luke asks, not understanding why exactly why he needs to raise the moon.
“Because you can’t let Celestia know about this. There is a spell that can restore memories in the case of amnesia, and she probably would use that on you by now if you ran into her instead of me. This spell would more than likely wipe all of your memories out of existence, and replace them with your body’s native memories that are being suppressed while you inhabit it,” Twilight says, with a very stern expression. “That spell would effectively replace you with a copy of Luna, and you would be gone forever.”
