School Duel, A Dark Change

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Yesterday was a very, very, happy day to Scootaloo. She not only beat Deck Dealer and had her own deck to play with but she also finally got her Cutie Mark! The next day in the early morning, Scootaloo laid in her bed and lightly snored. As she slept, the door to her room opened and in came Rainbow Dash. She leaned over her little sister and rubbed her head, messing her hair up a little in the process. She sighed as she saw Scoots’ cutie mark. Feels like when I won my first duel again. She thought as she stared at the card on her flank. Rainbow then got up from the bed and walked out of the room, silently closing the door behind her. As she walked towards the living room, she saw her wall clock and noticed the time. It was reading 7:30 A.M. Rainbow chuckled a little bit to herself.

“3, 2, 1.” She counted down on her fingers.

“I’M LATE FOR SCHOOL!” A young voice screamed. Scootaloo came running through and grabbed her backpack and nearly running over Rainbow Dash. “SORRY RAINBOW!!” She yelled as she flew down the street on her scooter. She arrived at the card shop and ran in quite out of breath. Then she saw Deck Dealer come into the room. “Morning Scootaloo, you seem quite exhausted today.” He said as he walked over to the young Pegasus.

“I…. know. Is…. my….. deck….. ready?” She asked between breaths.

“I knew you’d ask that. Hang on a second.” He replied as he reached into a small box. He then pulled out a deck that was labeled ‘Scootaloo’ and gave it to her. “Winged Beasts. Just like when you dueled me.” He said with a smile.

“Thanks. Now I think I’ll be-” She said as she turned around. But then was soon tackled by her friends Sweetie Belle and Applebloom.

“Ow.” The three said in unison. The trio got back up and dusted themselves off.

“Sorry girls.” Scootaloo said.

“Don’t yah worry none scoots were fine.” Applebloom said as she picked up her deck. She looked up though and soon her face went from calm to panicky in two seconds.

“WE’RE REALLY LATE!” Applebloom screamed making her friends look up at the clock.

“Oh man! We’re gonna be in big trouble!” Sweetie said.

“We need to get going!” Scootaloo said. Then as the three panicked, Deck Dealer seemed to have stayed calm.

“Girls, how about I walk you three to school? That way you won’t be in a lot of trouble.” He asked them. The trio accepted the offer real quick. They arrived at the school a few minutes later. Luckily all Equestria schools allowed Dueling Decks to be brought with students. Then as the three entered the building, their teacher, Miss Cheerilee, gave them a wicked glare.

“Do you three know how late you are at all?” She asked the trio. Before the three could answer, Deck Dealer walked in with a small smile on his face.

“Sorry about that Miss but I was a little behind on getting their duel decks was all.” He explained to her.

“Oh. It’s fine. You three get to your seats.” She said to the trio who quickly sat down. Deck Dealer then was about to leave when he heard Miss Cheerilee say this. “Alright class, today we’re going to be learning about the history of Duel Monsters.”

“Miss, may I stick around? I think I can help teach a thing or two about Duel Monster history.” He said to her with one of his signature little smiles on his face. Miss Cheerilee rolled her eyes but also smiled a little bit herself as she turned back to the classroom.

Meanwhile, somewhere in an ice temple in the far Arctic North, a hooded mare walked to a secret door inside of the temple. She got close enough and pressed the stone opening the hidden entrance leading to a downward spiral of stairs. The mare spread open her wings and flew down the stairs and landed in front of a giant pit filled with bubbling pitch black ooze. She knelt in front of it and said, with the sound one would say to a lover, “My master.” She then held her hands together and began to pray.

“My master, soon you’ll return to us. Soon we will take this land and you’ll rule it with an iron fist. I will make sure that your returning ceremony goes smoothly. I will make sure you get back the Dragon with eyes of red.” She prayed. A dark and menacing voice soon filled the air.

You will not fail me puppet. Should you fail me I will ensure you will know punishment beyond belief. Do you understand? The voice asked.

“I understand master.” She replied as she rose up from where she knelt. She then turned around and left just as the skull of an equine rose to the top of the ooze. A unicorn stallion with a crown of sharpened horns.

“-but when Sombra tried to rise against her. Celestia had assistance from a strange being who left afterwards. Everything after that… well class I think you should know the rest of it.” Cheerilee said.

“Miss Cheerilee, what was the monster that defeated Sombra?” A student asked.

“Actually it was three monsters. The Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, and the Blue Eyes White Dragon.” Deck replied.

“Right Mister Dealer. All three of those powerful monsters were the ones that stopped Sombra.” She added. The class all sat in their seats stunned by such a truly fascinating lesson they had. The bell soon after and every student started to pack up their stuff to go out to recess. Scootaloo was in the middle of picking up her deck when-

“Hey look Silver! It’s one of the Blank Flanks!” A familiar and irritating voice yelled making Scootaloo sigh. She turned her head and saw the two bullies that bothered her every day. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.

“What do you want?” She asked.

“Well I was gonna see if you wanted to come to a party I was having, but it’s for cutie mark holders only!” She replied as she laughed. Scootaloo merely giggled.

“What’s so funny?” Silver asked.

“Oh nothing much. Just that I would be delighted to go.” Scootaloo said as she turned to show off her flank to them. The sound of Diamond’s and Silver’s jaws hitting the ground could be heard as far as the Everfree forest.

“No way.”

‘Y-you finally got your-”

“Yep just yesterday. So you were saying something about a party hmm miss prissy pants?” Scootaloo asked with a grin on her face. While Silver just stood at her spot in amazement, Diamond was shooting eye daggers at Scootaloo.

“So what? It doesn’t matter. After all what good does it do for you huh chicken mare?” Diamond snapped at her. Scootaloo’s ears then flickered when she heard those words. Her confident grin soon faded and turned into an angry crease on her face.

“What did you call me?” Scootaloo asked Diamond. Although Diamond never really wanted to hurt the CMC there were certain days she was in a nasty moods. Today was one of those days unfortunately.

“You heard me. I said ‘What good does it do for you CHICKEN! MARE!’.” Diamond shouted at her. The pegasus filly continued to glare at Diamond but this time she was also snorting. Diamond soon realized her mistake that, in her rage, she may have accidentally really hit home for Scootaloo. “W-wait. S-Scootaloo I’m-”

“YOU’RE WHAT?! SORRY?! NO YOU ARE NOT! YOU CALLED ME THAT BEFORE AND IT NEVER BOTHERED YOU BEFORE! WHY DOES IT IRRITATE YOU NOW HUH?!” Scootaloo roared as tears began to quickly fall from her face. Before Diamond could say or do anything, Scootaloo bolted from the school as she cried heavily. Outside, Deck Dealer was sitting on a bench near the school when he saw Scootaloo run from the school. He tried to stop her and finally got her to slow down. He saw her face was red and stained with tears.

“Hey kiddo what’s wrong?” Deck asked her in a concerned voice.

“D-Diamond T-Tiara called m-me a-a-a c-chicken m-mare a-and t-tried to f-fake b-being sorry about i-it.” She sobbed. Deck only gave her a concerned look before tapping her shoulder.

“Scootaloo, you go ahead and head home. I’ll see what I can do.” He said to her. She then ran away from him allowing him to walk up to the school.  The look on his face would’ve scared an Ursa Major if they looked. His fists were clenched tightly as he entered the building. He reached the room where Scootaloo and her class just had their lesson and was just about to go in there and tell off the spoiled little brat when he heard one of the most shocking things in his life.

“I-I don’t know why that came out of me. I d-didn’t mean to say that you know Silver?” Diamond asked her friend, sounding really sorry about what she called Scootaloo.

“I know DT I know but it’s already happened and you can’t fix it.” Silver Spoon told her. Deck never felt more ashamed of himself then right now. He knew Diamond’s dad was rarely home and as such she was prone to attitude problems. Taking a deep breath, he then walked into the schoolhouse, making the two fillies gasp.

“M-mister D-Deck Dealer. Look about Scootaloo-” Diamond started to say.

“I know. I’m ashamed that you would say that to her. I know how much it hurts to not fly and be called a chicken.” He said remembering when he was young and when he was bullied. He then turned his attention back to Diamond. “But I also understand what it’s like to be ignored by family as well. I think you should go back and try to apologize to Scootaloo okay Diamond?”

“B-But she probably won’t let me speak to her. S-So how am I supposed to make it up to her?” She asked the elder.

“By duelin’ us!” An angry and familiar voice said. Deck Dealer and Diamond Tiara turned their heads and saw a very angry Applebloom and Sweetie Belle. “Of all the no good dirty rotten things yah could’ve done what yah called Scoots was the worst Diamond.” Applebloom said to her. Diamond sighed remorsefully as she pulled out her duel disk.

“Alright. Let’s Duel!”

“I draw!” She said and smirked at her cards. “First I place a card face down. And then I summon Card Ejector!”

The creature that appeared was a small, female humanoid creature with light green hair and lighter green eyes. It had a purple wizard’s hat and a pink and red outfit. In its hand was a scepter with a red orb topping it. Sweetie glared at Diamond Tiara as she drew her own card. She looked down and saw that her own cards could actually beat Applebloom and Sweetie Belle’s monsters but then she thought that would only show her bad side to them.

“Alright. I’ll summon to the field my Scrap Beast in attack mode.” She said calmly.

Onto Diamond’s field appeared an animal that appeared to be made of mechanical parts and scraps. It snarled at its opponents as it stared them down.

“I end my turn.” Diamond said. Silver Spoon then drew her card and added it to her hand.

“Alright. I set three cards face down, and I summon Basic Insect in attack mode!” She said.

[Silver Spoon:3000]

“Now Tiger Axe, attack Silver Spoon directly! Tiger Fury!” The tiger beast then lurched forward and slashed across Silver causing her points to go down further.

[Silver Spoon:1700]

“Nice shot Applebloom!” Deck Dealer yelled making the filly smile.

“Alright. Your move Sweetie Belle!” She said to her.

“Okay.” She said as she drew a card. “Alright. I’ll start by sacrificing my Card Ejector to summon my Disenchanter!” She said as her magician disappeared.

On the field came a more mature humanoid with red hair, brown eyes, and a dark blue robe with a blue stripe in the center. It held a long, golden staff in both of its hands.

“Now Disenchanter, attack Scrap Beast. Mystic Blast!” Sweetie ordered. With a flick of the staff, a magical beam shot out of it and impaled the beast through the chest making it disappear.

[Diamond Tiara:3600]

Diamond winced a little but knew in her head that she had to lose. She knew that in order to gain their trust she and Silver had to lose. After all you don’t just bully somepony and then expect to be their friend after just insulting one of their own. She knew them to good to fall for that trick. She drew her next card.

“I activate the magic of Dark Hole!”

Dark Hole

Magic

Destroy all monsters on the field.

As soon as she placed the card in it’s slot a black vortex opened up and sucked in the three monsters but it didn’t vanish. Instead it kept getting bigger and bigger.

“WHAT IN TARNATION?!” Applebloom shouted as actually felt herself being dragged towards the swirling hole in the ground.

Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, I’ve seen into your hearts and they are black with hate. Join me and sweet revenge shall be yours. A distorted and raspy voice said to them. Applebloom and Sweetie stopped their dueling for a moment and stared into the vortex. In it, they saw two, dragonic eyes that were green and red. Diamond and Silver also saw the eyes and tried to make the other two break contact.

“APPLEBLOOM DON’T LISTEN TO IT!”

“SWEETIE TRUST US THAT THING IS LYING TO YOU!

No! They are the ones lying to you. For how long have they hurt you?! How long have they tortured you?! I will make sure that with me, they’ll become nicer and sweeter! The voice said again. It turned it’s eyes back towards them and glared. Now how about you two take a nice long-

“HEY BACK OFF YAH OVERGROWN SET OF EYEBALLS!” Applebloom shouted. Her reaction surprised Diamond and Silver but the voice just sighed as though it expected this.

And here I thought you would’ve been wonderful servants. It seems I was wrong. Oh well 1 out of 3 isn’t that bad. The voice said and then it left the four fillies and grown stallion who was just frozen in mid shock as a dark laughter was heard from the shadows. Then the vortex shrunk until it was completely gone.

“Deck, what was-” Applebloom said as she turned her head to him. But to her surprise, he was frozen. Frozen completely. She turned and saw that Sweetie, Diamond, and Silver were frozen too. She tried to move but all she could do was at least move her mouth, even her eyes were glued straight.

Now young one. You will know the price of turning down such a generous offer of power The voice said as a flash of light appeared. Slowly, the light dimmed and soon became a screen like a television. As she was forced to watch, she saw Scootaloo on her bed, crying into her pillow.

“S-stupid Diamond and her s-stupid friend. I-I c-could fly if I wanted to but I just don’t want to right now.” Scootaloo told herself almost as though it was a mantra to herself. Unbeknownst to her though a dark figure in a cloak and hood appeared and touched her shoulder. Scootaloo turned and nearly punched the figure but it held up a gloved hand and grabbed the fist the orange filly threw out at it.

“Easy there young Scootaloo.” The figure said to her.

“H-How do you know my name?” She asked the figure.

“That is not important. What is important is revenge.” The hooded one replied.

“Revenge? I wish I could. But I’m too weak to get my revenge.” Scootaloo said sadly.

“Do not worry. That is why I am here.” The figure said as it sat on the bed. “Scootaloo, I am here to give you the power to take your revenge on the two fillies who hurt you.” As it said this it held out something in its hands, a card. As Scootaloo took it she felt…. great. She felt all the anger inside of her well out and pour into the card as it started to take shape. At first she was scared but now she had the look of a mad mare. That look everypony has that shows when they’ve finally gone over the edge. The card finally took shape and became a dragon.

Scootaloo then looked at the card in confusion for a while. “How the buck is this going… too…” She stopped midsentence as she noticed two draconic like wings on her back. She made them flap a few times and soon she was floating a few feet off the ground. “I-I CAN DO IT! I CAN FINALLY BUCKING FLY!” Scootaloo shouted in joy.

“Well then… do you accept my offer then?” The figure asked the young filly. Scootaloo just turned around with a hungry gleam in her eyes.

YES! I ACCEPT THIS GIFT!” She screamed in joy. Then suddenly, the young filly was surrounded in a cloak of darkness.

“Scootaloo of Ponyville, On behalf of my master, King Sombra, I accept you into our cause. Welcome to the Clan of The Dark Dragon.” The figure said as the darkness around Scootaloo latched onto her creating a robe.

“Thanks. By the way, who are you?” Scootaloo asked. The figure pulled down her hood revealing a familiar Unicorn.

“T-Trixie?” The young filly asked in surprise.

“The Great and Powerful Trixie will not wait forever now! We got places to be! Souls to steal!!” Trixie said enthusiastically as she opened up a dark portal to their lair. Scootaloo thought about what she said and considered backing out but then again… she did finally get her wings. Not to mention there were two fillies she wouldn’t mind taking away their souls anyways.

“Lead the way oh Great and Powerful One!” Scootaloo said in mock salute. Both ponies then went through the portal as it vanished. As the vision came to a close Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, and Deck Dealer couldn’t help but stare at the ground. Applebloom was the one to voice their concerns.

“SCOOTALOO NO!!!!”
