“So what’s your name?” Twilight asked.

“What?”

“Your name?”

“I, I don’t remember.”

“You don’t?”

“No, I’m sorry. I’ve been in solitude for so long I forgot.”

“Oh, ok than.”

“Sorry.”

“Don’t worry it’s ok. I guess it isn’t important.”

“…What’s your name?”

Oh, my names Twilight Sparkle.”

“You’re a princess.”

“Yeah, I kind of just got turned into one after I finished a spell.”

“Did the spell turn you into one?”

“What, oh, no, do you know Starswirl the Bearded?”

“The famous pony?”

“Yeah, I finished one of his spells and Princess Celestia turned me into an alicorn.”

“Really? Can I be a princess to?” Twilight giggled.

“When we get out of here I’ll see what I can do.” The young filly smiled. “But until then we have to get out of here.” Twilight continued walking, but suddenly stopped.

“Did you hear that?” She asked.

“Hear what?” They paused. The woods wee silent for a while, and as they started moving there was a quiet hissing noise.

“…No, they found us.”

“What? Who found us?”

“The black arachnids.”

“Spiders?”

“They aren’t normal spiders. They’re really bug and scary.”

“How big can they be?”

“They’re bigger than you.” Twilight froze solid.

“Bigger than-, how is that possible?”

“Like I said, they aren’t normal spiders, their monsters, they went dormant thousands of years ago, reawakened by something.” The hissing grew louder.

“Please, Twilight we have to go! They’ll hurt us!”

“Hurt us how?”

“They’ll eat us! Please we have to keep moving or they’ll eat us!” Twilight started running, she tried to out run the beasts but the hissing kept growing louder. She and the filly started to panic, they kept looking into the tree line, there was nothing there, but somehow they were still being followed. And out of nowhere, a colossal black spider jumped out of a tree and block her path. The two started screaming.

“What is that!?” Twilight screamed.

“It’s the black arachnid! It found us!” The spider started hissing as it approached them.

“What do we do?!”

“The black arachnid is known as a dream spider, they feast off of dreams and nightmares that every living creature has. As long as were awake it can’t feed, and if it can’t feed it can’t hunt.”

“So as long as we’re awake we’re safe?”

“Sort of, it can still bite us, but only if we’re a threat to it or it’s nest.”

“What do we do?”

“Stand still!” Twilight stopped moving and stood completely still.

“The dream spider senses movement as a threat, as long as we stand still it won’t attack.” As they stood there the spider started walking around them, after it circled them a few times it stopped in front of them and lied down.

“…now what?” Twilight whispered.

“The dream spider is challenging us.”

“To?”

“A stare down. Don’t break eye contact or ells.”

“Or ells what?”

“It has a web the is covered with fumes that induce sleep, if we lose it will coat us with that web and wait.”

“Wait for what?”

“The dream spider can only feast on a dram that has been alive for a week, anything shorter and it can’t feed.”

“Ok, so, stand here, look at it, don’t move, and don’t brake eye contact, that it?”

“Yeah that’s it?”

“And how do we know we beat it?”

“It can’t go any longer than ten days without feeding, by the looks of it, it already went about nine days and several hours, were lucky, right now all we have to do is wait for it to die of hunger.”

“Got it.” Twilight ended. She stood there staring at the spider, and after an entire hour the spider started twitching. It got up and attempted to walk away, but as it took its fifth step it flipped onto its side and died.

“…We, won”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” Twilight replied as she got up.

“No pony ever win’s a showdown with them. They usually give up, or go mad and run.”

“Weird, guess we we’re just lucky, come on let’s get out of here before any more of those show up.” She continued walking into the black forest. She turned around to take one look at the spider, she turned around just in time to see the giant beast dissolve into smaller spiders, and they all scattered off.

“…did you see that?”

“Oh, yeah forgot, dream spiders tend to continue living even in death, when it dies it turns it’s body into about a million smaller spiders and they continue it’s life.’

“That’s kind of, creepy.”

“Guess they disappeared for a reason.” The small pony laughed nervously as Twilight continued walking.
