Familiar Faces

Previous Chapter

Sonic had avoided the flow of people by jumping obscurely high onto the lockers, but Twilight was pushed around and knocked over by people walking past her. She managed to crawl out and rolled until hitting somepony’s foot when she unstuck her foot from a tight fit between two people.

The boy shut his locker when he felt her hit his foot. He looked down and saw her holding her head. “You OK?” he said, reaching out his right fore-hoof. Twilight put her hoof on his, and mimicked the shape he was making with his hoof... things. He then helped her up and walked into the crowd of people. It was then Sonic managed to parkour his way back to her.

“Yeah…” he said. “This is a High school, not a castle.” He looked at the way she was standing and her facial expression. “OK, what’s up?” Twilight just blushed and started stuttering

“Oh n-nothing” she said. Sonic gave her a funny look, but decided to let this one go.

Sonic then started walking down the hallways with Twilight. At one point he lost track of her, but found her running out of the men’s washroom. Later they ran into three young girls. At first Twilight was surprised by their lack of manners, but then went wide eyed; as if she knew them.  Sonic also saw familiar faces. He saw a girl with an expensive purple dress, fancy shoes, a violet hair pulled into a ponytail and a red jewel on her forehead. ‘Blaze?’ he thought. He shrugged it off and continued walking.

Sonic didn't notice when Twilight stopped; he was too focused listening to a voice. “L-look I’m really sorry” the voice said. He looked around the corner and saw a green haired boy with a leather jacket cornering a small orange haired boy with white overalls and a wrench. “I thought someone had just lost them there, I didn't know they were YOURS.”

The green haired boy crossed his arms. “Well, smart guy; they were and I would've gotten them if you didn't take them before I got them myself.” he said. “For such a smart kid, you really should learn not to take things that don’t belong to you.”

The orange haired boy started talking. “Well… technically you can’t prove they were yours either.” He said in a matter-of-fact tone.

Green hair punched the locker beside him.

“EXCUSE ME?!” he yelled.  The orange haired boy slumped down; losing all the courage he had left.

“N-n-nothing, sorry sir” he said. At that point, Sonic had enough. He stepped into the hallway.

“You got a lot of nerve speaking to him that way,” he said. The green haired boy turned around and glared at him.

“What did you say?” he said. Sonic repeated himself, and the green haired boy smiled. “You must be new here.” He said, pushing Sonic into the door of a locker. “I can talk to anyone anyway I like.” He walked up to a guy near his locker, and shoved him inside. Satisfied, the boy left.

When the green haired boy left, the boy in overalls stood up. “I can’t believe you did that!” he said.

“He was a jerk!” said Sonic “What else could I do?”

“It’s not that” he said, “It’s just… other than Sunset Shimmer, no-one stands up to Scourge anymore.” Sonic took notice of the name.

“Scourge” he said, deep in thought.

“He just appeared a few weeks ago.” He said, “Shortly after arriving, he started dating Sunset Shimmer and took over along with her. You've heard of him?”

“Sorta-kinda” said Sonic, trying to conceal his identity.

“I haven’t seen you here before,” said the boy, “Are you a transfer to Canterlot High from another school?” Sonic started sweating about the question that could reveal his identity.

“Yeah… another, uh… school” said Sonic, trying to keep his cool. “I’m Sonic, what’s your name?”

The boy stuck out his hand. “I’m Miles Prower, but people call me Tails for my scarf.” Sonic looked around Miles’ neck to see a scarf with the ends fashioned as a fox’s tail.

“What was that about anyway?” asked Sonic. “He was acting as if you stole something from him.”

“I found some giant gems outside and gave ‘em to my mentor,” said Tails. “Scourge claims they belong to him.”

“Who would your mentor be?” Sonic asked him, motioning his had so Tails would get to the point.

“I am the protégé of Mr. Dell Conagher.’” said Tails, sounding proud.

To Tails’ surprise, Sonic didn’t look impressed at all. “What is so special about that?” he said. “Sounds like a normal thing to me.”

Tails looked insulted. “Dell Conagher is the greatest mind of the modern age!” he said. He pulled out a book and showed him a picture. It showed a picture of a group of nine men. Tails was pointing at one wearing a hardhat and goggles, telling Sonic about Conagher’s past profession.

Sonic started laughing. “Who knew someone like that could be hired as a teacher.” Tails just rolled his eyes.

“He said he’ll give them to the owner when said person has proof that they belong to him/her” said Tails. “Anyway, you should meet my girlfriend. We’ll probably find her in the cafeteria. Just, be gentle when talking to her; she’s very shy.”

Sonic just turned the other way. “Sorry, buddy. I’ve got to find someone else.” Sonic started jogging away. “See ya at lunch”

When Sonic got found Twilight, he saw her speaking with a pale woman with long rainbow hair. He heard something about running for something, but didn’t get much. When he approached her, he asked her about it.

“So what was that about?” he asked. “Does it have anything to do with your ‘Equestria’ or any of that stuff?”

Twilight again started whispering to her dog. When they stopped their private conversation, Twilight spoke. “I was sent here by my past mentor Princess Celestia to retrieve something.” she said. “Sunset Shimmer used the portal to go into my world and steal my crown. The crown holds a very powerful stone on it called an Element of Harmony. I have to retrieve it by tomorrow night, or I won’t be able to go home. At least... not until another 30 moons have past.”

Sonic just stared at her. “What does that have to do with running for anything?” he asked; still confused about the situation.

“I just asked this worlds’ version of Princess Celestia; called Principal Celestia here, about the crown.” said Twilight, “Apparently my crown looks near-identical to the one used for the Princess of the Fall formal contest.”

“So you need to win said contest to get your crown, correct?” said Sonic. “That’s close to what I need to do here actually.”

“That being… what exactly?” asked Twilight. This ‘Hedgehog’ was getting more interesting by the minute.

“Similar to your problem, Scourge stole something from me and my friends,” said Sonic. “He had stolen 7 powerful relics from my friend’s safe-house. These relics are called the Chaos Emeralds. Each one holds an infinite amount of energy; energy that switches from positive to negative depending on the wielder.  This world’s version of that friend told me they were given to the Computer-Tech teacher.”

Twilight was slightly overwhelmed by this, but seemed to hold up OK. “Anyway, we should go to the cafeteria, it’s almost lunch.”  She said, trying to escape a conversation that may or may not confuse her.

In the lunch room, Sonic was walking with Tails trying to decide what to get. When they finally decided, Sonic spotted Twilight seated with a butter-yellow girl with pink hair. When Sonic and Tails reached their table, Tails instantly ran and hugged the girl. “Hey Fluttershy!” he exclaimed, earning a scared expression and an 'eep' from the girl. When she turned around and saw who it was, she hugged him back.

“Tails!” she exclaimed. They continued hugging until Sonic interrupted.

“You know her Tails?” he asked. Fluttershy blushed and backed away at the sight of a stranger.

“This is my girlfriend, Fluttershy” he said. “Fluttershy, this is my new friend Sonic.”

“Nice to meet you Sonic!” Fluttershy said reaching out her hand, which was shaken by Sonic. “You have a really cool name… uh… if you don’t mind me saying.”

“Nah, it’s cool.” replied Sonic. “You have a nice name yourself.”

“Anyway,” said Twilight “Fluttershy, where would I find the heads of the party planning committee?”

“Fluttershy said we would probably find them here” said Twilight as she and Sonic and her dog were entering the school’s north gym. It was covered with streamers and balloons of multiple colors.

Before Sonic could make any witty remarks they heard a voice yell “INCOMING!” and streamers started raining from seemingly nowhere. All three braced themselves as they were covered in a rainbow mess of streamers. When they looked up, they saw two girls. Both had a lot of pink.

One had pink skin and dark pink frizzy hair with a pink and white dress decorated with balloons and a heart. The other was a beige skinned girl with a red and white dress. She had pink hair that was styled into multiple downward-facing spikes. Although the pink skinned girl didn’t mean anything to Sonic, the other one made him sweat.

Twilight walked over to the pink skinned girl, who had begun to inflate a balloon. “Hi,” Twilight said, “my name’s Twilight Sparkle and…” she was cut off when the girl turned around to face her, almost knocking Twilight over with the balloon. Twilight’s eyes went wide when she saw the girls’ face. “Pinkie Pie?” Twilight said to herself. ‘Pinkie’ obviously heard this and released the pressure on the balloon she was holding, causing it to deflate in her face. When the balloon was fully deflated, ‘Pinkie’ somehow appeared behind Twilight, grabbed her shirt, and stared her in the eyes.

After a short gasp, she spoke up “Are you psychic?” she said, her eyes seeming to bulge out of her eyes.

Twilight took a second to shake off her shock, and then answered. “No, I don’t think so,” she said. “Unless that’s something YOU can do here.” She was dropped when Pinkie started talking again.

“Not usually.” she said. She skipped off and started inflating another balloon.

When Sonic got to his feet again, he found himself face-to-face with a beige skinned, pink haired girl. The resemblance was so uncanny it was scary; so scary Sonic fell on his behind again. The girl had her eyes halfway closed, her emerald eyes staring at him. Sonic backed away, feeling very uncomfortable now. “Uh… Hi?” he said, hoping to get this off safely.

“Hello…” she said, in a tone that showed she was obviously trying to flirt with him. “I heard about you, you know…” Sonic already knew he was too late to prevent this from happening… again.

“You have?” he said, trying to look calm.

“Tails told me that you were brave enough to stand up to Scourge.” She said. Her eyes widened when she remembered a very important detail. Snapping back to her ‘normal’ self, she introduced herself. “Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself; I’m Amy Rose.” She stuck out her hand, and Sonic cautiously shook it. Suddenly, she turned back to her flirty voice, vice gripping Sonic’s hand. “You know,” she said, “Tails is like a little brother to me.” She moved her face closer to Sonic’s. “I can think of a way I can properly repay you for defending him.”

Quickly Sonic pried his hand free and dashed to the door, only to have it opened and smack him in the face. When he looked up he saw an orange-beige skinned girl with blond hair, country clothes and a cowgirl hat. She was carrying a case of bottles. “Did somebody order a dozen cases of fizzy apple cider?” she yelled. Pinkie started jumping yelling ‘me’ over and over. She placed the case on a desk, and wiped the sweat off her forehead. Twilight went wide-eyed when she saw her face.  “Can you two bring in the rest?” the girl asked.

“Eeyup” came a voice from outside. Walking through the door came a young man in blond hair, a red shirt and jeans. He was carrying several cases of the cider bottles.

As if the other’s weren't already shocked with this man’s strength, another; younger man came jogging through the door. He was carrying the twice the amount the man was carrying; several tucked under his arms. He was wearing a red sweater with a white crescent around the neck. He was wearing red pants and red and yellow shoes with Lego-like metal clasp on the top. His hair was basically a red; longer version of Amy’s.

After a long conversation on whether or not Twilight should run for princess or not, and mentioning a girl named ‘Rainbow Dash’; Twilight decided to end the conversation. “Thanks for the advice, Applejack.” she said.  “But this is something I really need to do.”

“Well, suit yourself,” she said. Her eyes went wide on something Twilight had said. “Hey, how’d you know my name is Applejack?” she asked, rubbing her chin. Thinking quickly, Sonic grabbed Twilight’s arm and jogged out of the gym.

“Bye Knuckles,” he called to the red-haired boy, “I’ll see you around!”

Back in the gym; Knuckles, Applejack, Big Mac and Amy were staring at the door the two strange students ran out of.

“How did they know our names?” asked Knuckles, “We didn’t tell them, did we?”

Big Mac shook his head. “Nope”

Suddenly Pinkie popped out of no-where. “Those two are trying to hide a secret, but I am totally on to them.” she said. “They're psychic!”

Knuckles rolled his purple eyes. “Sure,” he said. “Whatever you say…” He then looked at Amy, obviously still crushing on the blue boy. “Get over it, Amy. He’s obviously not interested.”

Amy just took out her red and yellow baseball bat and thwacked Knuckles over the head. “You’ll see,” she said, leaning on the handle of the bat. “He’ll be mine, I’ll make sure of it.”
