The Purple in a Rainbow

That Dream Ouviously Wasn't Normal

Previous Chapter

"Ahhhhh! Rainbow Dash! Help!" Twilight screamed. Rainbow zoomed towards the falling Twilight. She beated her wings until they hurt. She clenched her teeth as she zoomed downwards towards the alicorn.

"Come on!!" Rainbow yelled. The one thing Rainbow noticed was that the ground wasn't getting any closer. She checked her wings. They were still beating. She was still going downwards. No matter how fast she flew, she didn't get any closer to the ground, or Twilight.

All the sudden, the ground came zooming down on her, and Twilight crashed into the ground.

"Owww!!!" Twilight cringed. Rainbow landed beside her.

"Are you okay??!?!" Rainbow asked, panic in her voice.

"Yeah..." Twilight coughed.

"You're not okay!!! Stay with me!" Rainbow screamed. Twilight's eyelids drooped. "No..." She leaned her forehead against Twilight. "It's gonna be okay." Rainbow could feel Twilight's horn against her head. Rainbow leaned in, and their muzzles touched, in a kiss.

"What the...?!" Rainbow bolted up from the bed she was sleeping in. "What kind of dream was that?" She whispered to herself. She glanced over at Twilight. She was sleeping soundly. She looked at the clock. 9:31. It had only been half an hour since she fell asleep.

She floated away from the bed and looked out the window. The streets were empty and every single light was off. She looked back at Twilight. Her wings unknowingly sprung open in her sleep.

She chuckled. Thats gonna hurt in the morning. She thought.

Her smile faded when the dream she previously had creeped back into her head.

She didn't get it. Okay, she got most of it, but last part? What was that about? And why did Twilight have to die? She didn't in real life. She knocked on her head.

"Work right, brain!" She whispered to herself. "I don't like her!" Her eyes widened at what she just said. "That way." She added.

She peered at herself in the mirror. There was a light pink hue on her cheeks.

She settled on the floor beside Twilight's side of the bed. She watched her. A strand of mane hung in front of her closed eye. The end moved back and forth in syncro with her breaths. Her bandaged wing shivered. Rainbow stared at her open wings. Her feathers were still sticking every which way. She flattened her ears. It bothered her when she saw feathers out of place. It made flying impossible.

She fidgeted with her front hooves. She wagged her tail back and forth. Her eyelids drooped and went under the influence of exhaustion. Rainbow's quiet snores echoed throughout the room.

Twilight slowly fluttered her eyes open. The room was lighten with natural light coming from the middle. She noticed the space where her cyan friend had been was empty. She turned over and came snout to snout with a slumbering pegasus. She didn't seem to take notice, but Twilight sure did.

"Wha!!" She cried as she rolled away from her friend. "Ouch..." She moaned as she rubbed her wing. Her horn glowed with a magenta hue. She levatated Rainbow onto her bed and walked down the stairs. She soon remembered that she had a sprained hoof when her stepped down with it.

She limped down the stairs and into the kitchen. Her horn beamed again as she gathered things for breakfast. She could do things herself. And after all, both Rainbow and Spike had been up late being concerned about her, when she was just fine. She didn't mind Rainbow's company, but she didn't get why the doctor wanted someone to watch over her.

She was always smart about injuries. Not that she got them all the time. She secretly doubted Rainbow could take care of her, based on only what she'd done her her.

She wondered how Rainbow had gotten to where she was when she had woken up.

Her thoughts rambled on as she mindlessly made a batch of pancakes.

"Twilight?" Spike said as he walked down the stairs. "What are you doing up?" He said as he rubbed his eyes.

"I could ask you the same question." Twilight said.

"I thought me and Rainbow were supposed to be doing all the work." He said.

She giggled. "Spike, it's not like my hooves got cut off." She said. "I can manage normal things like making meals." She said. Spike shrugged.

"Okay, Twilight..." He said. "Just don't fly or anything." He said.

She chuckled. "Spike, honestly, after what happened yesterday, I won't be flying out of will for a long time." She said.

"Mmmm, what did happen, anyways?" Spike asked.

"Long story short, I got my wing caught on a branch and then crashed." She said.

"So you did get beat up by a tree!" Spike joked.

"Very funny." Twilight scowled. "I wouldn't count that as being beat up." Twilight said.

"Yeah, okay, whatever." He said as he walked into the library. Twilight brushed the conversation off as she poured some of the pancake batter onto a pan.

Back upstairs, Rainbow Dash began to stir. She slowly opened her eyes.

"Huh?" She grunted. "How'd I end up here?" She mumbled. She noticed that Twilight was not on the other side of the bed. where did that egghead go? I'm supposed to be watching her, not sleeping in her bead while she does something else! The smell of pancakes reached her snout and she licked her lips. Doing something delicious... she started to flap her wings and float towards the stairs, but soon stopped dead in her tracks. Her heart hammered through her ribcage as last night's dream crept back into her mind.

A shiver ran through her spine as she took a deep breath. She grounded herself and stepped down the stairs.

"H-hey, Twilight!" She said. The alicorn turned around.

"Oh, good morning, Rainbow Dash." She said.

"What's for breakfast?" Rainbow asked as she sniffed the air.

"Pancakes!" Twilight responded.

"Awesome!" She said while rubbing her hooves together and licking her lips. She sat down at the table and waited. Her mind started wandering back to the dream again. Why did she kiss her? Why did she seem to be dying?

"Rainbow," Twilight said. "RAINBOW DASH!!!" She shouted.

"Buh!" Rainbow cried.

"Here's your pancakes." She said as she placed a plate with steaming pancakes in front of her. Twilight stared quizzically at Rainbow. She seemed to be staring off into space. She blinked once and started to eat her pancakes.

Something's up with Rainbow, Twilight thought. But what?
