I seemed to be the only one in line for a hot air balloon ride. “Hey where are your parents?” The pilot asked.

“Umm… they are coming; they want me to go ahead of them.” He eyed me suspiciously.

“How come I have a hard time believing you?” I panicked. I then did an impression of my father, far from a good one but the pilot didn’t know what my father sounded like.

“Go ahead and let him go, we are going for a picnic down in the field, he has some stuff to set up.” The pilot eyed my saddlebags; and began to think. All I could do is stand there with a big cheesy smile trying to make sure that he lets me down. “Well if you say so…” I couldn’t believe it, how this many ponies got through grade school was a mareacle.

He let me in and we began to descend. This was the first time I’d ever been outside of Cloudsdale so I hadn’t known what to expect. Well it was beautiful, rolling hill of green grass, the white fluffy clouds, a gurgling creek the color of pure ice, and so many creatures, and not just ones that fly, there were ones that walked and even swum. I was amazed and overwhelmed. There was so much beauty for one small foal to take in.

“Here we are the big field.” I looked at the pilot for any sign of awe on his face, but there was none. I couldn’t understand it, how could he not be in awe at the beauty. I will never understand older ponies.

We landed and he let me off. “I’ll be back with your parents in a jiff little colt.” If only it were true.

“Thank you.” He seemed surprised, “Y-your welcome.” I think this was the first time someone had thanked him. Off he flew with a smile on his face making me glad I could make someone’s day better. I began the long trot off to another town, not knowing what I’ll meet or who’d I’d face. I decided that the river would be my guide, water leads to civilization… or something like that. What happened next was something that scared me into the reality of my situation.

I had settled down for the night along the river, I watched as the sun set and the moon rose. I noticed something about the moon I hadn’t noticed before, there is an image of a pony. I rummaged through my saddlebags and found a book. Just one of the things I had grabbed randomly. “Mare in the Moon?” I hooved through the story.

The story scared me just a little bit, but not enough to keep me from sleeping. I was having a nightmare about Nightmare Moon when I heard a noise. I stirred and awoke, looking around to see what had awoken me. Then I heard the noise even clearer, it is a roar! I began frequently searching for the source of the roar. It came from the forest on the other side of the river. I grabbed my things and began to back away. Out from the forest burst forth a mighty manticore! I flipped out and attempted to fly, remembering that my saddlebags were weighing me down. I just ended up face planted in the dirt. The manticore proceeded to jump across the river in a single bound.

I began to run as fast as my young legs could carry me. I should’ve known that I couldn’t outrun it, it caught up to me and began to try and remove my saddlebags! “I NEED THOSE!” I shouted at the manticore.

It succeeded in tearing the food sack off of my back. It began to eat my apples. “DON’T!!!” It shredded my saddlebags and ate all my apples. Leaving my hay spread all over the grass.

It then proceeded to leave me in a scared state. I lay there the rest of the night, stunned that my quest had just been totally halted by a single creature. As the sun rose I realized I needed to do something or else everything would just be harder. So I salvaged what I could. A small bit of hay, and the muffin; which survived the attack somehow. I packed my things and kept moving. But now I had a knowledge I didn’t before, Equestria is full of dangers that I had no idea were so frequent. I needed to be safer than before and very cautious. Thank goodness I wasn’t attacked again. I finally reached a town, a place I’d soon learn to call home. Ponyville.

I trotted into town and was relieved to see so many ponies. I hadn’t seen hide or tail of another pony for at least a month, it is hard to keep track when all you have is food, school lessons, and invention parts. The only problem was I hadn’t a clue where to go. I went through town and bought a bushel of apples from a light green old-trotter, and made my way towards the woods near an apple tree farm.

After a short exploration I found a tree house. I doubted that anypony would mind if I settled down in the tree house. So I set up base and began to scout out Ponyville. There seemed to be a lot of nice places, and not too many guards to find me, since I have no doubt that I am being looked for, and A lot of nice ponies too. I could learn to like this town.

Much later I returned to the tree house to retire to bed. I had a lot of new things to explore and a whole new invention to learn, I would be there for a long time. I was relieved to finally find a place to call home again.
