I could have sent her back...
Year 1, Day 278
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDear Diary,
It's my birthday today! Marty and the guys all threw me a surprise party at work. They pulled that stupid old dim-the-lights-and-then-jump-out-and-yell-surprise-when-he-goes-for-the-switch trick. I'll admit, they caught me off guard.
Overall, it was a great birthday. The folks at work knew I was a brony, even if I haven't had the time to catch a new episode since the season 3 premiere all those months ago (I'll catch up eventually), so they got me a Pinkie Pie cake, Twilight Sparkle balloons (har har), and Betty even dressed up as the titular party pony and led a full chorus of Smile Smile Smile. It was both embarrassing and heartwarming at the same time, but mainly the latter.
Jenny even dropped by with her new boyfriend and gave me a copy of Equestria Girls signed by Ashleigh Ball herself. It was a Blu-Ray, though, and all I have at the apartment is a DVD player. I'll have to take this over to Marty's house on the weekend and watch it with him. He lives like two floors down from me anyway.
Jenny had to leave, so she gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and told me to "take care of myself." But right before she left, our eyes locked for but a moment. For only a matter of five... maybe six seconds, Jenny stared deep into my eyes, and I into hers. But, strangely, it didn't feel like a romantic moment or anything like that. No, it felt more like she was afraid.
In fact, I was almost certain that she was afraid, with the only remaining question being "of what?" She soon moved to rejoin her boyfriend and walk to the car, but still turned subtly to look back at me while she did so. Whatever was on her mind, it wasn't just a passing feeling.
Unfortunately, that kind of killed the party. It just kinda fizzled out over the next hour and Marty told me to take the rest of the day off. I finished my slice of cake, and happily obliged.
