I could have sent her back...
Year 1, Day 4
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDear Diary,
She still hasn't woken up.
I took her back home after the accident and had to cannibalize one of my old shirts to make a bandage for her head. I think I stopped the bleeding, and I know that she can breathe, but she still hasn't woken up.
What do I do? Do I take her to a doctor? A vet? What would the vet even say if I brought him a bright blue cartoon pony? Even as I type those words, I feel the need to pause, and look back at the unconscious filly on my couch. Bright blue coat, a mane and tail representing all the colors of the rainbow, a face with... that shape... I'd know it anywhere. I know for a fact that that is Rainbow Dash. But even as I look at her, even as I run my fingers through her fur, even as I know that she is here and this is all real... it just feels impossible.
She's a cartoon. Even in the real world, she still looks like a cartoon. And come to think of it, why is she so young? In the show, Rainbow was at least twice this age. I know there are some weirdos out there who would just have something like this fall into their lap and never question it. I'd like to think I'm not that hopeless yet.
As soon as Rainbow Dash wakes up, I am going to ask her how she got here, and just what exactly she was doing behind the florist's office. I just hope she'll be okay here on her own for the day. Tomorrow's Monday, and I have to be at work.
This is very much a coming-of-age for me, just not how I had planned it. The way I'd planned it, I would have had a child with Jenny, and retired to the countryside to raise him in peace. Now that I think about it, that seems strangely unrealistic. Where would I get the money? What would I do about income? How would I convince Jenny to marry me? How was I so sure it'd be a he?
In retrospect, my plans seem farfetched. But, then again, the pegasus on my couch would indicate that we use the word "impossible" just a tad flippantly.
Either way, I guess I'm a father now. I mean, I can't exactly just boot her back onto the streets, can I? Someone's got to look after her, and it's either me, or Area 51.
So don't worry, Dashie. I'm here for you.
